Naturalization Oath Ceremony scheduled 6 weeks after inconclusive interview - Charleston, SC Field Office
Hello all!
I want to share my experience with y'all because today was a good day! As I said on the title, I'll be sworn in as a US citizen in 12 days. I hope my story gives hope to those still waiting, and especially those on pins and needles who had an inconclusive citizenship interview.
- I applied on Dec. 17th, 2019, a few days after it's been 2 years and 9 months since I got my Green Card. (I'm married to a US citizen.)
- My Biometrics appointment was on Jan. 27th, 2020
- On March 2nd I was asked to come in for the citizenship interview on Apr 6th
- Mid-March brought the Covid-19 Lockdown, and a notice appears on my USCIS profile that my interview is de-scheduled and await further instructions
- On June 16th, 2020, I got a letter with a new interview date on July 31st.
- The interview went alright, breezed through the language and US Civics portions, HOWEVER, I had overstayed a visa by a whopping 17 years, worked without authorization during those years, exited and reentered the US multiple times (I'm a Canadian citizen of Moroccan descent) and to all these questions plus a couple others, I had truthfully answered 'Yes' on the citizenship application. But also, during my I-130 and I-485 process, I had to appear in front of an immigration panel twice to clear me of those transgressions, which I did successfully. (it took 4 years!) So, the immigration officer said he can't approve me that same day and he will have to kick it up to his superiors. Obviously, sometime last week, they approved my application
- And last Friday Sept. 11 my USCIS profile status changed to "Oath Ceremony Scheduled" But there was a bug in the link for the N-445 (Invite that tells you when, what time, where to go to get sworn in and what to bring) so I couldn't download it (it was gibberish when I did) so I had no idea what the date and time was. I tried Monday and Tuesday to see if they fixed the bug so I can see the letter they sent me (N-445) on their website, but nope.
On Wednesday Sept. 16th, I got the physical 445 in the mail
I get sworn in as a US citizen at the end of September!
Yes, I'll apply for a passport immediately and register to VOTE!
Thanks for reading. It's my sincere wish that this gives you hope!
If you have any questions, feel free to drop them in the comments.
