Naturalization Interview/Seattle/WA done
Arrived at 8:30am for the interview.

We were asked to sit in the 2nd floor lobby.

I was the 2nd person to be called in for the interview.

Interviewer went through each and every section in N400 form and asked for clarifictions where required. (Good idea to review the entire form before the interview)

I had requested for name change and this option is available only during July 4th oath ceremony. There were 2 options suggested:
 - Apply for a name change and go through the security check and the interview process again

 - Complete the interview and get the name changed before applying for the passport.

Obviously I chose the second option :-)

Then the interview questions:

- Asked to read a simple sentence
- Asked to write a simple sentence
- Civic Questions
  - what do the 13 stripes in the flag mean?
  - Who makes the laws?
  - Who said "give me liberty or give me death"?
  - Name the first thirteen states
  - How often can we reelect the same senators?

I had to sign the forms and the photos.

This was a breeze and the interview was completed successfully. Oath ceremony is scheduled for the end of the month.

Thanks for helpful information in this site.

Interview - done
My appointment was at 2.10 pm at the Oakland CIS.

The 12th St. BART station is very convenient - just 2 blocks from the CIS office.

I arrived at the office at 1.45 pm and waited till 2.45 pm for my interview.

The interview itself took 10 mins - very simple. The officer verified the information on my form by asking me questions. Then he asked me 10 questions from the Civics book, which I answered correctly, and then he told me that I could take the Oath ceremony at the end of the month (22 days from my interview date).

But, I cannot take the oath on that date, so I requested him to schedule it 4 months later. He was not too happy about that - but he said he is going to try. Let us see what happens. I am keeping my fingers crossed. :)

Citizenship eligibility Question
Hi, I came to the US on H4 visa in 2001 May and got my green card in the next couple of months. I am going to apply for my citizenship in the US in May 2007 as I complete 4.9 years after GC that time. However, I have read that a person should not be travelling outside the USA for more than 6 months each visit during last 5 yrs. I have stayed in India once in 2002 for 5 months and now again in 2006 for 5 months due to my mothers major surgery. I am now back in the US, however, the visa official wrote " 5 months" on my passport. AM I ELIGIBLE FOR CITIZENSHIP in May 2006? I need to return to India for 2-3 months for some imp. work. Can i go next month and still not hamper my citizenship chances. Pls. reply asap as I need to travel in a week. Thanks in advance for your response.

CA - Oakland CIS fingerprinting experience
Appointment at 8 am.

Arrived at the office at 7.30 am by BART - very convenient location relative to BART station - only a 2 block walk. Although I did see 5-6 open metered parking spaces on the road ($1 for an hour).

Waited 30 mins for door to open.

After entering - the "guard" asked me for letter, ID and greencard. Gave me a form to fill, which took 5 minutes, my number was called, the "receptionist" jotted down some stuff and sent me to second floor.

Waited for 5 mins and was called for my fingerprints.

The actual fingerprinting took about 10 mins - was a little frustrating as the lady kept asking me to "relax" my wrist to get good fingerprints. It was a bit disconcerting to see the words "Warning - possible match" flash across the screen as well. :) Hope that no terrorist has the same fingerprints as me!! :(

I was out by 8.30 am - got on the BART and was home by 9.30 am.

All in all - a very simple exercise.

I just hope that the rest of the process is as easy and streamlined.

Hope this helps.

Simple Assualt
I was arrested for simple assault.

The court dropped the charges under "No-Papered".

I didnt challenge this,

1 - What are the papers that are needed to be submitted for US citizenship?

2 - Is it better to use a lawyer or what are my chances for getting this settled.

My interview experience/San Bernadino CA DO
just want to let you all know about my interview.
I had my interview appointment for 11:35 a.m., I arrived @ 11:20 a.m. to the San Bernardino, CA DO, I was instructed to go to the second floor and to go up to the receptionist and drop off my interview letter, I did and then I had a seat and waited, and waited and waited for almost 2 hrs.,(it was the longest wait of my life, I had my baby sick and I had a doctors appointment that I needed to take him). Anyways, I was finally called in @ 1:25 p.m. by an female officer(Asian), she greeted me and directed me to her office. In there she had me do the swearing and told me to have a sit. Then she asked me, since you are applying for citizenship based on your marriage, what other documents you brought since you submitted your application? I got my documents ready, I only brought our home grant deed, bank statement, water contract and tax transcripts. She also asked me how many kids I and I said one, but how come you mentioned three on your application, I said the other two are my stepsons(I did noted that on the application), then she asked to see the supporting documents,(officer did not looked at tax docs). She asked my about my name change and had me sign one document(in duplicate), these are going to be sent to the court to make legal my name change(I went back to my maden name). I was asked about employment information, just if I was still employed there. Then she moved to marital status for my husband, asked about how many times he has been married and so on. Officer started the "general questions" section, question one have you ever claimed to be a USA citizen? I said no, she asked not even before you came to this interview? I said no, then she asked not even before you obtained your LPR? I said no, she insisted not even when trying to enter USA? I said no, the she said since you speak very good English ( I didn't appreciated her nodding her head) . She finished all the questions, questions about tickets were asked as well. I was aske what is the Constitution and if I support it, I said yes. Then officer started the civics test, five questions got them all right, these were:
Who is the commander-in-chief of the US Army and Navy?
Who nominates judges for the supreme court?
How many terms can a president serve?
Where does freedom of spech comes?
Who elects the congress?
She said now write this sentence:
We have a very clean house.
She printed test scores and have me sign the paper. She then gave me the N-652 letter, Congratulations! you have passed the test and just wait for your Oath letter, I might take from 2 to 3 mos., I hope I does not take that long. The interview took about twenty minutes only.
Thank you all for the help, I was worried about not having any documents of my first trip out of the US and that they might ask for it. Officer did ask about time spent outside of the US, but no supporting docs where ask for.
I wish you all the best, just be confident and do not volunteer any information, this sometimes can start trouble.
