Interview
Very bad and discrimitive experience.
My wife had her interview at the end of February here in El Paso, Tx. She had studied all of the civics questions and knows them like nobody else and knows basic English. So arriving there at the office she was quiet nervous. While waiting to be called several people were called before here by some very nice interviewers and some didn't look that happy. My wife and hoping to get an older person that seemed to be very nice and every person coming out after the interview with him were very happy becuase they passed the test. Also from the comments from the people the interviewer seemed to be very helping and caring. But then the door goes open and my wifes name is called in an almost unrecognizable tone by a female interviewer with an expression on her face like. I wanted to go with my wife but she didn't want me to. So my wife followed her into her office where she had to take the oath at a record speed and was asked for here driverlicence and her green card. The she was again aked in a record time how, when she became a resident and why she wanted to become a citizen? So my wife didn't understand all of those questions very clear and asked her to repead herself which she denied. And so she tried to answer to the best of here knowledge and on the question why she wanted to become a citizen she had answered to have the right to vote. Where the officer said that can not be the reason. So at only being 5 minutes in the office my wife was told that her English should be better and she will get another invitation for the test. This woman had from the very first minute the attention to fail my wife and wouldn't give her one oppertunity.
I hereby just want to state that these interviews should be recorded and the government should have surveys filled out about the service. Because there is a lot of abuse by officials done to immigrants and they know most people will not complain because of the situation they are in. I also tried to find a website or a phone number to post the complaint and after tens of calls I could get a fax number where I could send my complaint. But my wife is scared and asked me not to do this. But I have my letter ready and by the next interview I hope I can be with my wife to make sure everything is done as it should be. If this repeats itself, Napolitano (Secretary of Homeland security) can expect a letter from me (although I do not think she will read it). Because she talks a lot about transparency and facilitating the integration of immigrants while some elements in their system are just doing the opposite. Also why is it so difficult to find a government site for complaints?

Green card and Citizenship Concerns. HELP!
Well my green card was stolen a couple of months after i renew it and i was told that i should apply for citizenship since i lived here in the U.S. for most of my life. I was wondering if i have to get my green card/permanent resident card replace first or should i just apply for citizenship? i don't know if we need our permanent resident card in order to apply. If i do have to replace my card that mean extra money and extra waiting time? Can someone please help me answer this questions of what I should do?

My Citizenship Test was so easy
Y'all,
At the beginingin, the interviewer called me in to her office. I gave her a firm handshake and looked into her eyes and answer yes mam'e no mam'e just like SurePass taught me. She was very nice, very gentle to me. Her voice was kind of soft to hear, but luckly I learned to listen to all the questions very well before hand, so it was no problem for me. By the way, here's what you need to know. There are 100 sample test questions, but there a hundreds of ways to ask them, right? Same questions, many ways to ask... That was why I took SurePass citizenship tests until I got all 10 on each test several times in a row, just to give me more confidence. Anyway, she asked me all the standard questions about my name, some personal infomation, my husband, my daughter. Then she made me write "I am married to a wonderful husband." And I messed up the word "married", I wrote "maried". But she said it's OK. Another sentence is "The United States is a free contry." I don't remember all the citizenship questions, but they're just like what you see in SurePass. So if you learn in there, you will have no problem what so ever. At the end, she shaked my hand and said, you pass!

So, I'm waiting for the day to swear before the judge to be a real citizen. Yeah! It'll be special. Then I'll sponsor my Mom over! Anyway, just want to let you know that it was easy for me. Either I was lucky to meet a good interviewer, or I was very well prepared.

will my arrest prevent me getting citizenship
I was only arrested once for domestic violence and spent three days in jail. However no charges were filed. I just applied for citizenship few weeks ago. Will my arrest cause me problems in getting my citizenship. No other prior arrests.

easy as can be !
I just got back from my interview !

The Mrs & me received our appointment letters in the mail asking us to be present @ the immigration offices in Santa Ana, CA @ 12:45 pm

We arrived around noon after parking across the street ($10 for 2 hours approx) and I had to go back to the car after security told us our cameraphones were not permitted. We had no plans of taking pictures but know better than to argue @ times like these.

After signing in on the 1st Floor we patiently waited for a good 90 minutes before our names were called by different examiners within 5 minutes of each other.

In each of our private rooms, we were asked to swear upon oath, then asked for our IDs (driver license) passports, green cards and requisite paperwork. After confirming our residential addresses and employment history, we were asked 10 simple questions from the old test. My wife was given the option of taking either but I was not, no big deal either way. Most of her questions pertained to the Civics portion while mine were based on the History of the US. She got 1 wrong while i had none. Soon after we were made to write a simple sentence in English and told we had passed the test & would receive the letters for the oath ceremony in the mail, sometime within the next 45-60 days.

Then we happily strolled out and had ourselves a quiet lunch before we drove home

My nightmare was over!
Hello Readers,
Just want to share my experiences to everybody... It was too late for me to find this helpful website..I wish i found this before going to my citizenship interview.. this is my story.. me and kids came here as K3 & K4 visa last 2003, I got my gc on 2004 but unfortunately my eldest didn't get his gc because of age, but it's ok..we were able to filed a separate petition for him. while my youngest got his pgc.. now let's move on.. last April 2007 I applied for naturalization, gathered all the doc requirements..everything's ok.. then got my fp, then waited for several months for my interview... I was with my husband.. he wants to joined me in the interview but the officer said he cannot, with a very strong and command word.. then I got really nervous... when we entered his office cubicle.. he was really mean, he commands me to put my belongings to the other chair then he asked me what is my proof being married to a USC, I was a bit shocked then finally I realized he was asking for documents, like IRS, marriage contract.. then he started scrutinizing my docs, then with-out any advice he started asking me civcs q and history, he asked if i read that word and asked to write a simple sentence...the most shocking to me is that and he read my doc that I've worked in a mental health, he said like.. so this is whre your husband live? And I said no, that's where I'm working.. it is clear on my paper that I was working there... then he said again like an insult way of pronouncing it that.. " oh so your the fifth wife of your husband" I said yes.. but i think i should say that time " and so?" and he kept asking me over and over again about the date of our weeding, over and over gain, do we pay taxes, over and over gain.. the interview lasted I tihnk 20 minutes but it's 20 minutes gruelling and adjectaitng minutes of my life... the way the officer held the interview was like Iam a criminal.. then finally he said , I passed the interivew but he cannot make any desicion yet, i stood up and grab my stuff and I just said thank you, then finally he smiled and said thank you on my home language...I want to get out of the building right away.. I told my husband about how he threated me and he said he was also insulted the way the officer handled my interview.. for how many nights nad days, my chest were trembling.. what did I do wrong... will i get an intivation letter for oath taking or what... I couldn't sleep.. my husband said if only he knew that this will happen, we will hire a lawyer.. but after a month i got my invitation letter for my oath taking... finally it was over but the nightmare of that interiew still vivid in my mind and feels like it was just happened yesterday... it was an experienced that I will never forget! This experienced it brought a lesson for me that no matter your honest, no matter how authentic your docs are.. still don't feel to confident because you'll never know how their going to address your situation...

mailed form:6/30/08
FP: 07/24/08
Interview: 08/24/08
Oath ceremony: 10/15/08
Received passport: 10/31/08
So the whole process from application to actually getting my americam passport it was exactly 4 months!!. Beyond my most optimistic expectations not only in terms of timing but also of lack of any complications along the way(very quick and objective interview, no waiting time for finguerprinting, quick response from each estep to de next in general. I think that the processing time is faster now because their sistem was reinforced after the increase of applications in part due to the elections, but now that is past and the price is a little stiff for some to the point of being a regulator of excessive demand.
I am very happy and wish you all still waiting the best of luck.
