B2 Approved for Widow Mother in Chennai
I feverishly checked for people's experiences in this forum, so that my mom who was widowed recently could get through her B2 interview. The ensuing preparation and her sincerity paid off very well in the end. It was nothing short of harassment the way I prepared my mom by giving her a questionnaire and asked her to answer with several mock interviews and spot quizzing her at unexpected places.

Our profile: Both sons in the US, married, one grandson, lost our dad recently and younger brother sponsored.

I was extremely tensed because of our situation. Immihelp's questionnaire and people offering their experiences was of immense help without which I think we would've missed something.

Here is a summary of our experience:

VISA was in Chennai at 7:30 AM to avoid the sun.

Interview verbatim as far as my mom can recall.

VO: Can I have the passport please?
(here...)

VO: Why to US?
Mom: To visit my son's family and ... (tour along the X coast with them.)

VO: What is your son?
Mom: He is a Software Developer at a Pretty Cool Software Company (PCSC).

VO: You have only 1 son?
Mom: I have two sons, both are in PCSC.

VO (smiling): Both are in PCSC? You must feel very proud of it.
Mom tried to smile, but was quite nervous.

VO: Your husband is not accompanying you...?
Mom: He's passed away, but my elder son is accompanying me.

VO (curiously): I'm very sorry, but you said elder son is also in the US?
Mom: He's come here to pick me up.

VO: Have you any property?
Mom: Yes. I own a house in Chennai and one is under construction

VO: When will you be back?
Mom: I will be staying there for 3 months

VO: Both sons are there? Why to India?
Mom: I have to take care of my mother and unmarried brothers and receive pension.

VO: Oh, so you are employed?
Mom: Yes, I am a Manager in XX Bank

VO (reading on the computer...): Yes (smiling) your VISA is approved.

Threw the passport back.

VO was a middle aged lady. My mom felt confident about a lady being the interviewer. She was confused whether her VISA was indeed approved as I had told from my past VISA interviews that VO will ask for a finger scan if approval is imminent. So she asked around and people there said: Ma'm you should be happy and you can exit along this route.

VO spoke fluent Tamil and spoke to previous interviewees in Tamil. We opted for English interview. She asked other people similar questions. Why husband is not accompanying, what business does husband do? Any properties?

Almost all of them she saw got their VISAs. No denials that time. No documents were asked or checked except passport.

We got a 10 year multiple entry VISA.

I don't think this was an easy interview as almost all questions for B2 were asked. I thank immihelp for building such a community with great resources. Thanks!

Need a suggestion
Hi,
I am 20 yrs old and I have completed my graduation. My brother went to US long back and he is a US citizen. He is married and has 2 kids.
Now i have an idea to visit US on a B2 Visa for 2 months and also to spend some time with my brothers kids.
My parents applied for the visa 1 week back at Chennai consulate and they got the visa for 10 years. Since,i had my examinations i was
Not able to apply for the visa along with them and that is the reason i had to apply seperately.
I am on my vacation and i am not employed. Its my brother who is goin to sponsor for my trip. I have no intentions of working there and
I will get back within 2 months. My interview is scheduled on the next week.

Is it possible that i may get a visa or the chances are very less? Kindly share some tips ,so that i could crack through the interview process.
Thanks in advance.

Parents visa rejected 2 times in US Qatar consulate
Myself and my husband are here in US on temporary work visa.We are basically from India. We tried applying for visitor visa for my parents.

My parents are staying in Qatar for more than 20 years due to my father's job there. They frequently visit India for visiting their parents and relatives and have strong ties with India.Since my Dad is working in Qatar they applied for US B2 visa from the US consulate and Qatar. They were rejected two times.First time the reason was they never travelled to any another countries. The Second time the reason was they do not have sufficient funds for the trip to US.My parents had shown deposit worth $20000 for the trip. But they tell that is not sufficient. They also told they have lot of assets and deposits in India. However the officer said that the deposits needs to be in Qatar.Further the officer told them that there wouldn't be any good in trying again for the visa from the Qatar Consulate soon as the funds are not going to change considerably in next few months.

My question is if they want to apply in next two months will it be safe for them to apply through US consulate in India as they have sufficient FD and assets to show strong ties and sufficient funds for the trip if they apply from India. Will there be any problem they face since they changed their Consulate from Qatar to India. Please advice

DS 160
First of all thanks to immihelp and all the contributors.

My parents applied for visa to visit my elder brother and his family staying in the USA.

OFC Scheduled 20 May 0100 pm
Interview scheduled 21 May 0900 am

Reached for OFC on 20th May at 1200pm. As my parents were about to enter the security guard asked for DS-160. I showed the same for my father which also had information about mother as she was traveling with him. The office out here told that every individual must fill DS 160 of his own and hence my mother was supposed to fill DS160 also. He also guided me to nearby cybercafe for doing the same. (Don't be panic at any point of time.) There is a cybercafe at about 10 steps from OFC location. As I entered, I found many applicants visiting this cafe as they had difference in their names on DS160 and Passport. So please make sure you have the name on DS 160 exactly same as that of passport.

In my case I filled out entire DS160 for mother and submitted it. While filling that there was a question

Who is paying for your trip?
In mothers DS 160 i wrote that my brother is paying but as I checked my fathers DS 160, it said Self. Again I had to correct my father's DS160 also. Since my brother was sponsoring both of them.

Finally I printed both DS160 and my parents entered OFC.

Next day was smoother

VO: Why do you want to go to the USA?
Father: To meet my son and tourism

VO: Where does he stay?
Father: ZZZcity in YYYY state

VO: How many days you plan to stay in the USA?
Father: 3 months

VO: Congratulations, your visa is approved.

Tips:

1. Fill your DS160 carefully as it is the document against which your answers in interview are evaluated.
2. Make sure the name in DS160 is exactly same as it is in passport.
3. Most important : every individual must fill a DS160

Thanks to immihelp again.

Be Confident
Hi,

I had gone for the B1/B2 visa interview. I was nervous about it in beginning. The key is the confidence. My interview went quite nice.

It was a crowded day as usual and I was asked to sit outside for sometime till my batch was called inside. First I went through the finger scanning and then was the main interview.

I smiled at the interviewer and he was nice enough to smile back at me. :)

Officer - Good Morning!
Me - Good Morning Sir!

O - Why u want to go to USA?
Me - Business Meetings and Training purpose

O - How long do you intend to stay there?
ME - 2 weeks

O - What company you work for and what is your salary annually?
ME - I work for so and so company. My salary is xx thousand INR.

[He smiled and told me that i asked your annual salary not monthly]. I was like this is the end. Still I remained calm and gave him proper answer.

O - How many people work under you?
ME - 4 programmers

then came the golden words -
O - Your visa has been approved. Have a nice trip.
ME - thank you sir! :)

Be confident and the officer won't scrutinize you. If you remain nervous, they gonna check each and every thing.
