an also heartiest thanks to the old gentle man counsellar who took my interview n also he was very cool n co operative n listened to each n evry word of mine cooly n waited till i bring out the required documents to show him.it is all luck n how ur day is ,if ur luck is good n u get a co operative counseller than u win other wise documents or big bank balance also don`t work.that is my personal experience.
touch wood to my self for having a good luck atleast for that particular day.

two things to all who go for interview:
1:speak confidently
2:speak eye to eye.do not see here n there or peep down while answering him/her or stammer doing a a a while answering.n always enter the window with big n ofcourse decent smile thats it.
my age is only 29 n i my self n my whole family was surprised that i got 10 yrs visa in this young age.

Mom's visa rejected in Chennai
My mother's visa was rejected today. She is 68 years old and a widow. She had all the required documents. I am GC holder. The consul officer just asked 3 questions
Q1 How many sons do you have?
Q2: Son sponsoring your visa is oldest or youngest?
Q3: When did your husband pass away?

He just rejected without looking at any documents.
I am not sure if I should ask my mom to reapply because nothing else will change again. I will really appreciate people's advice.

Mother got 10 yr mult entry visa at Mumbai
She went for the interview on April 07, 2004.
American lady at counter was very courteous.

She asked my mother some routine questions like:
When did you retire?
What are you doing now?
What does your husband do?
How many children do you have?
What does your son (me) do in the US?
Where does he work?
What does your daugther do in India?
Have you been to the US before? Where?

That's it. After that she told my mother that her visa is approved and her passport will reach her next day. Today she got her passport with a 10 yr multiple entry visa.

Best of luck to everyone.

Visitor Visa for my parents
The website was extremel useful in determining what papers I needed to get ready and what my parents needed to have...Thanks.

I had made a web appointment and apparently the last name and first name got mixed (since it is different in my parents passport).

During the interview the official was a little hesitant given the different names on the passport and the web appointment (and hence my letter of invitation). However my father's confident response that he was going to come back to India and that he was enjoying himself by travelling around after retirement swung things his way and he got a 10 year visa.

My parents got VISA for 10 yrs. at Chennai
My parents attended interview on April 5th at Chennai and got visa for 10 years on April 7th.

My parents had taken all their documents (related to property, investments etc.). But the officer did not ask for any.

The consulate officer has kept all Sponsor Documents on this site which helped me a lot.

Thanks to immihelp. An excellent site.

Satish.

Parents got their visa on Apr 7th at chennai
Thanks to immihelp and all its forum members for posting their experiences. My husband sent the papers as mentioned in this website, we are gc holders and were really apprenhensive whether they will get the visa because i'm the only child. we sent only one 134 though for both my parents. We don't know for how many months they gave the visa ...will update u again on that. Questions asked were:
1. what does your son in law do?
2. How many children u have?
one daughter ( officer briefly paused to look at my parents again)
3. What family ties do you have here?
I am the eldest son of a big family of 9 brothers and sisters, own property etc...
4. So you are the eldest son?
yes
5. What does your daughter do?
working
6. Do you have her passport copy?
Dad submitted my passport copy.
7. Some other question which my dad did not understand properly as to when he came back from US to which he answered that this is his first visit and that he a retired employee etc.

they did not ask my mom any questions and asked to pay the fees and told them that their passports will be sent by mail in 2-3 days.
