Parents got visa
My parents went for interview. My dad is 60+ and my mom
59. Consulate officer wants to make sure that person applying
for visitor visa will come back. For my parents they just looked
at I-134 that I sent, my passport copies and copy of I-797.
For my parents office just looked at the passport and application.
Didn't even bother to look at their personal affidavits or other
papers showing their ties to India. But it's always a good idea to take
these papers. In case if they want to see.

Officer, just asked some simple questions to my dad:
1. Where do I live in US ?
2. Why are they going to US ?
3. Where do I work ?
4. Where did my dad use to work before retiring ?
5. How many children do my parents have ?

For my parents it was straightforward case. I have a big
family and all of my brothers, sister and their kids are in India.

Senator's Letter doesn't mean you will get visa
My parents visitor visa was rejected in March 2004 under section 241(b). Then,I learned from this web site that Senator's letter wil help them getting visa. My parents apreared second time for visitors' visa with Senator's letter in Arpil 2004, but still their visa was denied under section 214(b). So, it doesn't mean that if you have senator's letter, you will get visa..same questions..same story..same reason..!!!

In-laws got visa at third trial
This site helped a great deal in my in-laws visa prepration, specially thanks to the person who posted senator letter.

My in-laws visa was rejected twice 214(b) without consulate asking much questions. He just looked at my fathers-in-law passport and guessed that as he has been to France on official training, he is a potential immigrant! This time we got a letter from senator which is as below...

**** **** **** **** **** **

Dear Consul General,

Mr. Sahni has made me aware of the interest of his parents, Mr. XX and Mrs. ZZZ, in obtaining visitor's visas to enter the US.

I understand that Mr. and Mrs. Sahni will be visiting your post on DATE YY to apply for visa consideration. I have been assured that they have no intention of remaining in The US permanently. They have extensive ties to India which are outlined in the attached letter. To the extent that compliance with US non-immigrant laws is demonstrated, your consideration of these visa application would be appreciated.

Please advise my office of the outcome of this request. Thank you for your time and attention to my constituent's concerns.

This time in-laws went to Hindi consulate (saying they can explain much better in Hindi) and showed the above senator letter. The consulate asked them to wait for some time and had a grueling 1 hr interview later. We feel that senator letter was influential.

Parents got 1 year multiple entry visa in Chennai
I'm employed and married, currently on I-485.

My parents went for their Visa interview on April 21, it was their first attempt. My Mom is a Bank Manager and my Dad is retired from Govt service. My Mom had NOC and I had sent all documents listed here.

First, some screener took a look at their documents and took my I-485, EAD copy and Advance Parole copy. Then they were called for interview.

The interviewer ignored my Mom and only asked my Dad some questions. Those were:

Q - How many children do you have?

Answer - only one.

Q - Why are u going to US?

Answer - To visit our son and daudhter in law and for tourism.

Q - Since when your son is in US?

A - Since 199x

Q - In which company is is employed?

A. ZZZ. He showed the letter of continuing employment

That's it.

For some reason, they only got a one year multiple entry visa, but I hope they can renew it without too much hassle.
