Visa Rejected at the Mumbai Consulate
Hi all, Im a 23 years old girl working as well as studying. I had my visa interview at the US consulate at Mumbai today. I had all the documents in proper place exactly as mentioned in this site. In the past i have travelled to 25 countries except for the US. She rejected my visa saying that i have never travelled to the US in the past and that im unmarried so i m a potential immigrant. I had all the documents stating my ties but she didnt ask for a single document.
Well, i would like to advice people who are gonna apply or have appointments scheduled in coming days to be very calm and not to be nervous coz US visa is a sheer luck and nothing else. I was pretty observant and observed one thing is that except for H4 applicants they hardly asked anybody for documents. May 1 or 2 percent. So documents actually dont make difference. Its all ur luck and i guess they have a quota or its just in random order. I observed that in Booth no. 4, first 5 applicants got their visas, the next 10 got rejected, again 4 before me got their visas and that lady went on a break and came back and was my turn and god knows it was my bad luck my visa got rejected.

The questions asked to me were:

1. Have u ever travelled to the United States?
2. Then why do u wish to travel now?
3. Wht is ur job profile?

Thats it....

and then she said.. Nice to know u but u have never travelled before and that u are not married, unfortunately we will cant send u coz u might prove to be our the potential immigrant.

So guys all the best and i hope u guys get a visa.

In-laws got 10 yrs visa at Mumbai Consulate
My wife's parents got 10 yrs multiple entry visa at Mumbai Consulate on 1st April. We are surprised because we are not yet Green Card holders. We have EAD and AP and it would be my in-laws' first US trip.

The interview was scheduled at 9:30 am - but it was delayed because the translator came late.

We had sent the following documents mentioned as 'Sponsor Documents' on this site -

1) Letter to the consulate officer
2) My employment letter
3) 4 recent pay stubs
4) bank statements
5) tax returns for year 2003
6) Copy of my wife's birth certificate (in-laws had original)
7) Copy of our marriage certifiate
8) Copy of our passports, EAD and AP (for both me and my wife)
9) Affidavit of support for in-laws

The consulate officer has kept all these copies - he said they would return some of them with the passport.

Following questions were asked. The officer was an American and translator was Indian -
1) Who is in the US (Answer: Daughter and son-in-law)
2) How many children do you have (2 daughters)
3) What does the younger daughter do? (Married and working in Mumbai, India)
4)What do you do? (Both are retired - but father sometimes works as a consultant on contract basis)
5) To my father - Where u used to work?
6) What does your son-in-law do in the US?

When they asked for affidavit, my parents gave them my letter to the officer along with the file containing all the sponsor docs and the affidavits.

My parents had taken all their documents (related to proeprty, investments and family photos etc). But the officer did not ask for any.

In the end 10 yrs. multiple entry visa was granted. They were told that they can not stay more than 6 months in the US at a time.

What a relief!

Hats off to immihelp.com! It's a great site!!!

Parents and sister got visa at chennai
My Father(57), Mother(48) and sister(24) who's doing her masters in India, got visa approved on 29th March at Chennai. My parents got 10 yr Multiple entry whereas my sister got 6 months visa.

The interview was very brief. The questions asked were:

To my father:

How many children do you have?
What do you do?
Where does your son-in-law work?

To my mother(housewife):

What are your responsibilities at home?
How do you spend time at home?

To my sister(student):

What is the name of your institute?
Where is it located?
What are you studying there?
What are your future plans?

Thanks to Immihelp team for all the info. It helped us a lot.

I have sent all the sponsoring papers to my mother in law for getting a visitor visa. I am on EAD.
She is been called for interview on 31 march 04 at Mumbai consulate and after showing all the papers they have asked her to show my wife's parol document. and very rudely treated the the elder lady and finally told here that your visitor's visa is rejected.
Is my Wife's parol documents are required for visitor's visa, as it is not mentioned in the rules anywhere. This is surprising.
I think at least the behavior of officer should be appropriate. They are earning a lot on this kind of unlisted rules for getting a visitor's visa. Is there any way we can inform these things to the American law makers.
Thanks

Ravi

Plea for visitor visa not accepeted at Chennai
I have a valid B1/B2 visa on my passport and wanted to Visit parents in America this summer with my own family. My wife and daughter went to the consulate for the visa and it was not accepted. They rejected it stating that its against their rules to issue a visa if the whole family is going to the US. My concern is, if that's a rule then it should be listed on all the internet sites and let people be aware of it. I wonder why America does not accept visitors to come visit their place. I had proof of poreperty, a stable job and title deeds of all the resources I won. I guess this is how the people at consulate make money. I wasted 10K rupees on the visas just to find out its one of their stupid rules not to issue visa for the whole family. I guess honesty is not always the best policy. I am sure that if I were to make fake papers and show fake proofs, my family could have got the visa, which is totally aganist my ethics.

Immihelp site helped me out a lot in carrying the documents that I would need to show at the consulate. I would be happy to see the rule "Visa cannot be issued if the whole family is travelling to the USA" added on the front page of the site.

3.Who is in India
4.What kind of org u worked for (govt or non-govt)
5.What is the current pension and salary at the time of retirement.

Mom got 10 yr in Mumbai on Mar 23
My mother’s visa had been rejected twice before. So this time we were all very worried. This website is great! I read all the experiences and made a list of all the questions various people had posted. I also made answers that my mother would give to these questions. We rehearsed this on the phone with my mom in Hindi (as this was the language in which she was going to give the interview). I got together all the documents mentioned on this site.
One thing I heard from my friends was that – you should try to avoid Mondays and Fridays to go to the Consulate. So my mom got an appointment on Mar, 23 a Tuesday at the Mumbai consulate. It was at 10am. Her interview took place around 10.30. She was asked the following question:
- How many children do you have?
- Who is in India?
- Who is sponsoring you?
- What does your Son-in-law do?
- After your last visa rejection why din’t you try again?

They looked at the affidavit of support and our green cards in detail. They also browsed through my mom’s letter, application and my letter. They told her to pay the money. She received her passport next day in Pune. She got a 10yrs visa.

Best of luck to all! We have been through hell to get this visa. But I guess there is hope.

Mother's visitors visa rejected
My mother who is a widow went for interview to Chennai yesterday (March 29th) and her visa was rejected. She has two daughters, on is in US and the other in India. My sister is single and my mother has to go back to get her married.
Iam a green card holder and the consulate rejected her visa saying that why she did not visit me in last 7 years (Iam in US since 7 years). The officer did not even bother to look at the documents. My mother is very depressed and Iam too here. This is real injustice. I think the consulate should look at the documents before rejecting visas.
