Mother's visitors visa rejected
My mother who is a widow went for interview to Chennai yesterday (March 29th) and her visa was rejected. She has two daughters, on is in US and the other in India. My sister is single and my mother has to go back to get her married.
Iam a green card holder and the consulate rejected her visa saying that why she did not visit me in last 7 years (Iam in US since 7 years). The officer did not even bother to look at the documents. My mother is very depressed and Iam too here. This is real injustice. I think the consulate should look at the documents before rejecting visas.

My Parents Visa was Rejected today under 214(b).

We are 2 sisters living in the States. The officer was very rude and nasty to my parents. He asked a few questions like when will your 2nd daughter (who is on H1 visa) return to India and why are you going to USA before rejecting them.

They paln to apply again, but not sure how much that will help. Seems like there are no set rules and visa is at the mercy of the officer.

My parents got 10 years visa at chennai
I am so happy and relieved that my parents got visitors visa for 10 years. They have been getting 214(b) rejection since 5 years( upto 5/6 times). Luckily, the consulate officer in Chennai interviewed my parents for upto 20 minutes and asked several questions. My father just prepared the paperwork without the travel agent assistance this time. I am a green card holder and living in us since 8 years. Maybe that is the reason, they gave visa for 10 years. So, I wish the good luck for every body who apply for the visitors visa. This issue has been so challenging for me since 5 years...

My parents got 10 yrs visa..
Thank you all. This site and the folks who shared their experiences helped my parents to get their visas.

My parents went for an interview on 17th. The officer asked the following questions:
1. What do you do? How much you make?
2. What is the place you are visiting?
3. How many children do you have other than your son and what do they do?

Thank you so much guys. Keep up your good work Immihelp.

Regards
Sen

Parents got 1 Year Multiple entry - Absolutely no Issues!!
All,
My parents got their Vistor's visa on the 15th for an year at the chennai consulate .My father(65 yrs) is a retired public sector company employee and my mother(56 yrs) a home maker. The officer did not see any other documents, apart from the i134. I'm here on an H1B visa and work for one of the top 3 software company in india.

I came to US last spring but got my SSN only after 9 months, due to some problems with my i94 records. So i was not getting my salary and was taking advances from my company. But luckily i got my SSN couple of months back and my company proccessed all my pending salaries and i got a bulk amount(my company being an indian company not that bulk..:-) )..This was reflected in my bank statements and i didn't want the officer to make a guess that i borrowed money and did a deposit. So i wrote a letter to him explaining the situation.
I prepared all other documents based on what is given in this site....Also the experiences of others given in this site helped a lot !!! Thanks a lot of putting up such a great helpful site....

I was expecting a 10 yr multiple entry visa for them, but i'm not complaining, atleast they got a 1 yr visa !!!!!

They will be reaching here this saturday and me and my family are very much excited about this....

Also i'm Planning to purchase the Insurance from this site...Any thoughts on this???? It about 160$/month for my parents....

Visa Rejection
Which consulate are you guys talking about ? I heard Mumbai is pretty tough. Maybe try to take a letter from the senate people in US. Might help.

Why these people( Consulate Officers ) are rejecting visas with out any reason?
I don't think they have some criteria to approvee visting visas..... finally its purely based on luck...if it is based on that why they are asking all these docs.. wasting of some ones time and effort.. simply they are making some money ( Visa fees - non refundable )
