I think it all depends on luck and the mood of consular officer which is absurd.

Visa rejected
My mother and sister went for an inteview on Feb 25 at the Delhi consulate and visa was rejected. The interviewer asked my sister a few questions
Who's sponsering u?
Why are u going at this time?
What do you do?
When did your sister go to US?
What Visa?...
He did'nt ask a single question to my mother and said I find no emotional ties here, Visa rejected
Did not see a single document other than copy of my passport.It seems he was with the mind set to reject the applications in hand, so did'nt even give a fair chance to contest. Good luck to all who apply.

--My Mom and Dad both were answering simultaneously.
--I think the best thing that worked to our advantage - my 2 siblings in India, are both dependants on my parents.
--My parents, both work- have their own business.
--They answered confidently.

Also, the interviewers(translator and officer) were polite and patient.

In mumbai consulate, at counter 1, the applicants can ask for Translators.

This website and discussion forum was the best resource to prepare for the interview. I am really Thankful to Immihelp for the continuous help he/she provided in the forum.

We wish everyone luck -- God Bless us all!!!

Thanks,

Sweetadd

Mother In Law got Visitor Visa
My MIL visited chennai consulate on 4th february,and she got her visa. My MIL is a housewife.She was asked questions like
How many children she has (2 daughters)
Who is in US (eldest daughter)
What is your son-in-law doing?
What is your younger daughter(Studying)
Is your younger daughter married(No)
Where is your Younger Daughter Studying?
What was yourhusband doing before retirement?
How much pention he is getting now?

How many months do you intend to stay in America(4-5 months)
They looked at all the documents and returned all of them except affidivit of support and Visa application. She had an appointment at 10.15 to 10.30. She chose a translator. She took a two page visa application. But they said it is not valid and she has to fill the application which is on both sides. She filled it there itself.
Once the interview is over she is asked to pay the last dd to the counter and asked to leave the consulate. The entire process took less than 2Hrs.
Hope this experience helps you.
Regards,
Anuvamsi.

What is your son(Govt. Employee)
What is your younger daughter(Pvt.Employee)
Is your younger daughter married(Yes)

My parents got 10yr visa on Feb 4th.

Questions asked were very straight forward
* Where my father worked
* Position and salary at the time of retirement
* Current pension
* My job
* Company I'm working for
* How many times I changed my job (never)
* My salary
* How many children my parents have?
(They didn't ask for any document)

Looks like Chennai consulate gives 10 yr visa for parents if they feel that case is genuine.

Only different thing I did apart from those described in immihelp is in the cover letter to consulate. After standard text, I added my details and the list of documents I've enclosed. I wanted to make sure that visa officer gets all informaton by looking at one paper.

My sister was refused visitor visa
My sister needs medical treatment and we applied for visitor visa for her so she can come here and undergo surgery. She is 36 and propertied in India and has a family with a 9 yr ole son. We applied only for her. Immigration officer cited the reason she was too young and could stay back in US if visa was given. Her appointment here at Stanford is on 15th Feb.
Suggestions are welcome to get her here.
