Length of stay?
Hello to everyone,

Recently i got the B2 visitor visa, and in the DS-160 application i wrote that i will stay in United States for 21 days and will go by 20 April.

But now i have changed my plans and want to stay for about 4 months and want go go by 08 April.

Will the US Immigration officer will allow me to stay longer than 21 days and will this be a issue that i will travel erlier?

Thanks in advance

B2 Visa Approved.
Many many thanks to all the ppl who have shared their experience here..

My husband has a B1 visa and had travelled to US many times. I wanted to accompany him this time so, applied for a B2 visa. Since the hotel was not booked I gave the address of my cousin who stays at Illinois. Below is my expierance at hyderabad consulate:

Me : Hi, Good Morning!
VO : Good Morning

VO : whats the duration of your visit?
Me : 2 weeks

VO : purpose of visit?
Me : Vacation and accompanying my husband on his business trip

VO : where are you going to stay?
Me : San jose.

VO : you have mentioned Illinois.
Me : My husband's office's travel desk is still processing the details, so I gave the address of my cousin. But I am not in contact with him, nor do I plan to visit him.

VO : so you are going to stay in California?
Me : yes

VO : where do you work?
Me : Answered.(ZZZ)

VO : what does YYYY do? and what is your role. and how much do you earn.
Me : answered. State your salary same as you have specified in your DS-160 form.

VO : where does your husband work? what is his salary?
Me : Answered. State your salary same as you have specified in your DS-160 form.

VO : Asked my husband's copy of visa
Me : Gave my husband's passport.

VO started staring on the screen...

VO : what is your husband's salary?
Me : answered.

VO : Your visa's approved. have a safe trip. :)
Me Thanks!

I think the VO's main concern was sponsorship, as he asked my husband's salary twice.
Hope this helps others.

Sister got visa after previous two denials
My sister's B2 visa got approved last week after two prior denials in 2004 and 2006. Those two times she went with her then 7 year old son. The first denial was purely due to my complete lack of knowledge of B2 visa's basic ground rule about 'strong ties' (wish I knew about immihelp then).
I thought that if me the sponsor has a good job, salary, bank balance, legal status (had Green Card) and filled up DS-160 the applicant would automatically get the visa. Looking back I can say
we did everything wrong that could be done resulting in the denial and that affected the second time also in 2006 though I did make amends after reading immihelp and gaining knowledge after first denial.

Now fast forward to 2017. This time the biggest worry for us was that in her new passport her first, middle and last name were wrongly interchanged compared to her old expired passport which had the denials. This time she went alone.

VO) Are you single or married?
Si) I am married and have a family.

VO) Where do you work?
Si) I teach at this xxx Engineering college

VO) Is it a govt. or private college?
Si) Private college

VO) What does your husband do?
Si) He is an army officer..xxx rank.

VO) Great...I was also a US army officer in the same rank

VO) What does your son do?
Si) He is studying xxx engineering in xx year at xxx city.

VO) You applied earlier and were rejected.
Si) Yes in 2004 and 2006.

VO) So who is sponsoring you?
Si) My brother.

VO) Where does he work?
Si) xxx company in xxx city

VO) Where will you stay?
Si) At my brother's place.

VO) Who will pay for the trip?
Si) Though I can afford to, my brother wants to pay as he is older to me.

VO) What is your brother's salary?
Si) I do not know.

VO) If you do not know how will he sponsor you?
Si) He sent all his papers like pay slips, bank statements etc. You can take a look.
(Sister passed all my documents to VO)

VO) No. I only want to see his payslip.
Si) (She pulled my payslips and gave to VO)

VO) (After going thru my payslips...golden words) Have a safe and enjoyable flight.

She got a 10 yr visa. The problem with the name on the passport did not matter at all, they don't care about such mistakes. He did not ask her income or her husband's income nor see any of their documents but asked about my salary the only question I did not prepare her for because I did not anticipate that. I gave her a long list of possible question with brief, up to the point truthful answers and told her to stick to the script and not give lengthy answers. Because of the two earlier
denials she was very nervous, so I did a couple of mock interviews to boost her confidence which definitely helped.
