I work at a biopharma start up and this is my first H1B stamping. I was on F1-OPT earlier and got converted to H1B on 01Oct17.
The VO asked me basic questions about when I graduated, OPT, my job description and salary. She then said that further information is required and directed me to another counter where an Indian lady gave me the 221g white form. Nothing specific was checked off and I was asked to submit documents like my CV, past and current experience, research, travel information/purpose, itinerary etc. She said it will take 3-4 weeks. I submitted the documents next day and waiting since then for some update. It has been very frustrating so far...

Attended Biometrics on 28th December 2017 in Chennai followed by interview for H4 on 29th December 2017.
Passport was collected and I was handed a blue slip with 221g for administrative processing.
Received an email soon after to submit resume and countries visited. Submitted these documents online on 29th December itself.
CEAC shows: "Administrative processing" since 29th.
Passport tracker showed " at the US Embassy/ Consulate" until 12th Jan 2018. It then changed to " There is no status available for the passport number submitted".

My wife came to India for vacation and had submitted the documents through drop box on Jan 08, 2018.
But after 4 days received an email to attend visa interview on Jan 29, 2018.
Yesterday she attended the interview and was given a white 221(g) slip.
Waiting for stamping. But wondering why it is taking so much time?

PhD in Chem Engineering. Came to stamp H-1B extension, had gotten 221g on my 1st stamping as well.
17/12/2017: Biometrics in Delhi
18/12/2017: Interview in Delhi Embassy, was asked if i did "research". I was given the white slip with the usual list of documents as well as another piece of paper asking for details about my research. They kept my passport.
19/12/2017: Sent the documents by email.
CEAC status date updated to Jan 19, still AP, between 11 am and noon IST.
CEAC status updated to Issued on Jan 22nd around 3 pm IST.
Passport status changed to "Passport has been received from the consular section, and is currently being processed for delivery" on Jan 23 around 11:15 am IST.
Passport picked up from local VFS center on Jan 24 around 2 pm IST. Passport status on ustraveldocs still said Origination Scan, and couldn't get a courier tracking number since it was being sent to VFS not to Blue Dart location. Lesson learnt - should just have gotten it delivered to home.

Travelled with My son for some personal stuff. Visited Consulate for the first time stamping for H1B. Already in the USA for four years out of which 3 years 7 months on L1B. COS did in the USA from 01-Oct-17.
VO asked nominal Questions and after typing something asked me to visit another counter. Indian lady at other counter took the passports and then handed over a white slip and asked me to submit Resume, Experiences, Research, Itenerey, travel history etc.
Talk to Company attorney and he marked the documents to Consulate via email.
And now waiting endlessly and every hour is frustrating. My son who is in 8th Grade is missing the school. Already cancelled the tickets.

It was ok till I was working in the USA and as soon as I out of the USA, all these very high qualified VO found that such and such candidates need additional processing. What a nightmare.?
I do not know why USA device some mechanism to stop the real fraud rather punish like this.
and there is no update on CEAC

VO asked usual questions like employer, location, position, highest qualification, as soon as I answered master's from US VO took white slip and started writing case number on it and said your application will go through administrative processing and it may take a week to hear from them. No documents asked.

Accompanied w wife (H4) and 7m son (US Citizen). Breezed thru the queues due to the infant. 60m in and out. Ahead of us, one H1, and a family of 4 for B1 (marriage in US) - both given white 221G.
On our turn, pleasantries and then, VO requested for current and all past i797. I had a new and old passport, she struggled to find my last stamping, which was done in Toronto, Canada, eventually found it. Then she asked if an Immigrant petition was ever filed, courteously said 'yes' and gave her the approved I-140. Asked for LCA, paystubs (I had last 3 months). Asked who the employer is, and who is the end client? Asked my wife if she works, wife said no. No other questions. Went and made a copy of the approved I-140 - wrote on top "+Spouse - H4" and some dates.
Gave the 221g white paper, and requested for 12 months of pay stubs and I797, LCA, etc. Sent via email to [email protected] same day.
Can anyone share thoughts, advice? Very troubling.
