B1 Visa Interview
Firstly, I would like to thank each of you who have posted your experiences.... This really helped me to boost my confidence.

My interview was scheduled on Feb 17, 2012 in Chennai...This was second time after rejection during August 2011 in Hyderabad.

I went through the process - of collecting Token - Security check - Passport check - Finger Prints.

Finally - Reached my interview counter.

My Conversation with the interviewer:

Me - Good Morning Sir
CA - Good Morning

The consulate officer was very calm and asked me to wait for few second and started checking something in his computer.

CA - Your Passport please
Me - (pushed the passport in the counter)

CA - What are you working as?
Me - (Answered)

CA - What is your company name?
Me - (Answered)

CA - Where are you going in US?
Me - (Answered)

CA - What kind of Meetings?
Me - (Answered)

CA - How long are you working with this company?
Me - Answered

CA - Why only you are selected to visit US?
Me - Answered

CA - Is it any kind of training you are attending?
Me - Answered

Consulate officer started typing on his computer...same thing what i saw last time, before I got rejected.

Finally I heard that sentence..I was waiting for...

YOUR VISA IS APPROVED.

Guys - An important piece of advise -

1) Just be yourself and say the truth

2) be clear.

3) do not hesistate

4) Consultants are not sitting there to reject you..but they need to be convinced with the reason of visit.

5) Keep eye contact so that they can judge you.

All the Best :)

B1 Visa Interview Experience
My B1 Visa experience was pretty cool..I work for a subsidiary of a US company and I was supposed to go to the parent company on a 3 month business visit..The parent company sent me the following documents which I used as my supporting documents: 1. A bank statement 2. An invitation letter 3. Company Registration records of both parent and subsidiary companies 4. A letter of representation by the parent companies Attorney ..I then attached the following as supporting document: 1. My pay slip ....The day of the interview was February, 3rd (2012) and my appointment time was 7.30 pm..So we all went through the usual process of biometric data collection etc till we were made to be in a queue for our interviews..When it was my turn, My interviewer was a pretty nice person..She asked me the following questions: 1. What was the name of my parent company? 2. What was the purpose of the trip? 3. My job role and description 4. How long I was going to spend on the trip 5. How much was my salary? 6. What does the company do? 7. Had I ever travelled outside the country? I hadnt 8. What school I attended? 9. What program/course I did at school? 10. What work does my father do? (I thought this was a weird question lol)..and then she said: YOUR VISA HAS BEEN APPROVED! Next she attached a slip with a number to the back of my passport and gave me the other half and asked me to come back to the embassy on the following Tuesday..The interview was on a friday.....The following Tuesday I went to the embassy and after about 15 minutes wait, I was called to receive my passport and the visa I was given was a B1/B2..(validity period) From: 6th February, 2012 - To: 2nd February, 2017 (5 yrs) , With No Annotations! lol....I'm so grateful to God and very happy! :-)..My flight date is coming up in 9 days (24th February, 2012) and I have my tickets and everything ready..so I'm now doing my preparation and packing :-)

Got B1 Approved Feb 06th
Hi,

I attended the visa interview on 6th of Feb. I was booked for 8.00 AM slot but I was there at 6.30 AM.Its good to be at least 2 hours before your interview slot.
They will open the gates at around 7 AM and they will call 1 slot after the other (starting from 7.30 slot). You have to be in a queue once they call your slot time.

Keep your form DS-160 confirmation page and Interview letter ready. I will recommend taking atleast 2 more copies as you have to show these at multiple points later. Keep extra copies in a separate folder.

You have to take a token in the Queue. DON'T carry cell phones, CDs (Normally, If you have taken photographs for VISA, they will give the digital photo in a CD, Don't carry it by mistake) Otherwise, You have to deposit cell phones etc in a bunk outside. God knows about their security.

Once you complete the security check, You enter the next room where your token number will be displayed on a screen, Watch it carefully and go to the corresponding window in which number is Queued.

Keep DS-160 confirmation page, Interview letter, Photos (should be taken atmost a month back), HDFC DD, BEP covering letter handy. He will bind your passport, Confirmation page and interview letter with a rubber band and later you have to go to another window where your finger prints will be taken. There they will put a ink mark on bound documents.

After that, You have to go to the next building. Again look at the screen for your token and join that queue.

Take a deep breath, be confident. Consulate Authorities will be normally polite to you. You can only screw this if you are not calm.

My interview:

Consulate Authority : Good morning sir
me : Good morning Sir.
CA: Where are you going ?
me : (told)
CA: Which company do you work for ?
me : (told)
CA: Married?
me :Yes
CA: Kids
me : No
CA: Purpose of travel?
me : product training
CA: How long you are going to stay?
me: 15 days
CA: 15 Days!! It is such a short time of training?
me : Its only knowledge transfer and I mingle with team there.
CA: Your VISA is approved. You will get your passport in 7 days.
me : Thank you sir.

Other questions I heard with other people were : What is product name, What it will do, What is your role in team etc.

Be cool!!! all the best

Regards
Sadasiva Prasad

Got B1 approved
First of all thanks a lot to immihelp for creating a platform to share our interview experience, it has helped me a lot in preparing and clearing the interview. I have been asked the following questions before my visa was approved:

- Where are you going?
- What is the purpose of your visit?
- Why 5 weeks for meeting?
- I was asked to show printout of our meeting agenda. If your meetings are running into weeks, don't forget to take a detailed daywise agenda
- Why you did not apply for H-1B instead of B1 - I was clear in my answer: I am not going to work just attend meetings
- How long have you been in the company?
- What is your current role in the company?
- What is your salary?
- Do you have properties here?
- Are you married and have kids?
- Can you tell me reasons that you will come back?

And finally visa was approved.
