Guidelines:
Please go with an open mind and be yourself. There is no need to be extra polite or straight forward. Just be normal.

Do keep all the documents.

Hi, I went for the interview on 16.12.2011.

Good morning
Can i have your passport?
which company are you working with?
from how long have u been working here?
whats your salary?
whats your clients name?
whats the purpose of your visit?

VO made faces after hearing the salary. She thought that i might settle down there and earn lot of money.

So this can be one of the reasons.

I answered all the questions clearly and confidently.

But alas i didnt get the approval.
I asked "why?"

She said: I cant answer that coz of security reasons. Sorry!

So Its just your luck! :)

all the best guys!

B1/B2 approved in 2nd appearance in 14 days
Dear Friends,

Thanks to this wonderful site, I cleared my B1/B2 visa today after being rejected for the first time 14 days back.

Well, everybody is writing here their experiences regarding the questions asked, I believe that questions asked by VC and answers given by us vary from person to person as each of us is in a different situation.

I would like to give feedback on how I prepared for my re-interview in 12 days-
1.Review what went wrong in first interview( in my case I got nervous)
2.Prepare a questionnaire of your own, write down each and every question that you think may be asked to you when somebody is in your situation. This is easy as many interviews are available on line thanks to immi help. ( I prepared 25 expected questions applicable in my situation)
carefully write down the answers, these answers should ALWAYS reflect your ties to India/family. For example, if you are asked " are you married?" , most of us would answer "yes" ( if we are married), however, answer should be " I am married for xx years and have xx kids" this shows the strength of your relationships.
3.As you start preparing for interview, you will notice that the answers you write on the first days will change to better answers in the coming time period and you will get more precise with everything.
4.Take help of one of your family member and start practising the interview, this will life your confidence and you will have much better presence of mind on interview day. ( I noticed while today interviews were going on, many candidates stood in the wrong posture, some of them were speaking too fast to be heard, some of them were not able to pronounce words well so they were not understood correctly---- this all may go against us in an interview)
5.Give at least 1 hour a day to prepare.
6.Ask you friend/family member to notice your body language, eye contact, pronounciation as you will be able to pass an interview, once you get these right.
7.for those of you, who would like some guidance regarding right posture and giving a confident interview, I studied following articles which were very helpful to me-

http://theconfidenceguyonline.com/2008/04/how-to-give-a-confident-interview/

http://www.thinkenergygroup.com/think.nsf/InfoNFR/TenSecretsforBoostingYourConfidenceDuringtheJobSearch?Opendocument

http://hassam.hubpages.com/hub/How-To-Look-Confident-In-Interview

Friends, it's all about presenting yourself well and presenting the information you have also in a good manner. So be confident and you will pass for sure.

All the best.

PS: ABOVE POST IS ONLY MY EXPERIENCE, THE SITUATION AND INTERVIEW PREPERATION MAY VARY FROM PERSON TO PERSON.

Below is the conversation with VO, please help in understanding what went wrong and could be done better in 2nd attempt. Below is the conversation.

VO:Purpose of visit?
ME: For the meeting with my counterpart and customer.

VO: Why do you need 1 month for the business meeting?
ME: These meetings will involve understanding the current business process and creating the new process. Requires follow-up and doubt clearing session, and due to Christmas vacations we need more time to accommodate the delay.

She said stand a little behind, so that she can hear me clearly. I did and repeated the above answer.

VO: Why you going at the time of Christmas?
ME: We have been requested by the customer to come and start the initial discussion before Christmas, so that we will be able to complete the process finalization by first week of next year.

VO: I cannot issue me a VISA today. She didnot stamped any VISA Rejection seal or aby other seal on passport.

B1 Visa Rejected Twice under 214(b)
I am a student of Electronics & Communication Engineering (Final year). I applied for B1 visa as I had to attend a Cyber Security Conference in Miami.

It was in month of August 2011, when I applied for B1 Visa first time. I got the interview date as 19th August 2011 by US Consulate.

My interview went like this:

I: Good Morning Mam!
VO: Morning!

Visa Officer (VO): Why you want to go to USA?
I: I want to attend a Information Security Conference.

VO: Have you ever travelled outside India?
I: Yes, I have been to Singapore.

VO: Why you went to Singapore?
I: I went there to attend an International Cyber Security and attend a training on Computer Security Analyst.

VO: Can I see your call letter?
I: I handed her my Invitation Letter, that was from EC-Counil USA.

She read it for five minutes and typed onto her system for around another five minutes.

Then she gave me a booklet and said that, "Sorry, I cannot issue you a visa at this moment. As your invitation letter does not proves me this that you qualify for this visa". It was rejected under Section 214(b).

As this moment I had my hotel reservation and flight tickets too. I was having following documents at this moment:

Passport, Driving License, PAN Card, Election Card, College ID, College NOC, Recommendation Letter from Technical and Media Sponsor of the event that was to take place in USA, Father's PAN Card, Father's Salary Slip, Father's Passbook Copy, Father's Office ID.

It was a setback for me as I had no idea that would it ever get rejected.

After this I got my application was reviewed by many of my friends and colleagues. They said this thing that after having the invitation letter the chances are rare for visa to get rejected.

After acquiring some more diplomatic letters from Sponsors and Organizers of event I again took interview date. It was 9th September 2011.

Again I was in front of a visa officer.

Conversation this time:

VO: Hello Sir! How are you doing?
I: Good Morning Sir! I am doing great. How are you doing?

VO: Why you wanna travel to United States?
I: I want to attend a Cyber Security Conference in October in Miami. It is required by me to take up few freelance projects and this conference will help me a lot.

VO: *He took my letter of Invitation, Air tickets and Hotel Reservation.*

Read the subject of Invitation Letter. Threw the documents towards me.

Typed on system for two minutes and then rejected my Visa under Section 214(b).

B1 Visa approved on 2nd December 2011
I attended interview on 09/11/11 and was rejected under 214b. Many suggested not to apply second time with in 6 months. But i had no choice and applied for the second time.

This time i got the visa on 02/12/11. So if rejected under 214b you can apply immediately and you have a good chance of getting it in the next time unless they reject stating your age and marital status.

What i can say to the applicants is prepare well and expect less. You will get your Visa. Pray that you will have to get a good VO. Coz the consulate officer at that time matters a lot.
