B1 Visa Experience
Hello,

I had my B1 visa interview scheduled today at 9:30am at Chennai US consulate. I went a bit early and had to wait for 15-20mins before I got into the consulate. Most of the initial procedure at the consulate has been covered quite substantially in this forum. Skipping to the interview.

VO:Hi How are you?
Me: Good Morning Mam'. Doing good, thanks. How about yourself?

VO:Good thanks
<She is busy typing something on her computer>

VO:Whats your purpose of visit?
Me:Marketing discussions with my US team.

VO:Whose your client?
Me:<My visit was internal my org and not a client visit> Its internal xxx division in my org.

VO: Ok. Whats your designation?
Me: <Told her>

VO: Which countries had you visited earlier?
Me: <Told all the names and saw her nodding her head looking at the computer>

VO: Whats your Annual salary?
Me. xx lakhs in indian rupees.

VO: Ok sir your visa is approved. You would be getting it in a week's time. bye
Me: Thanks. Have a good day

Guys/Gals let me tell you dress well, be confident. My US student visa had been rejected 10 years ago and I had disclosed in detail during filling the application form. Be truthful, be confident. They don't know more information than you have already disclosed. So All the best

regards
SKumar

My Visa Interview
My Visa interview was scheduled on 20 Dec 2010 at Delhi, as I am staying in Faridabad.
After having sleepless nights and nightmares finally the day was arrived when my interview was scheduled though thanks to all the blogs and stories written by various people I was able to prepare myself.
I reached in the office at around 840 hrs but my interview was scheduled at 10.30(as I have read in the blogs to reach the embassy on or before time) I was nervous, but formally dressed I faced the interview, in the mean while my heart was whipping at its high, anything could happen. With the grace of God, I was asked the basic questions by the interviewer regarding my visit and then the magical words “we are keeping your passport, you’ll get it in 4 5 days, Njoy ur trip”

 I was granted B1 B2 Visa for 10 years.
Thanks to all the blogs and the stories mentioned on the website, which boosts my confidence.
Cheers! Ashwani

Got B1 at Mumbai yesterday
Hi All,
I attended B1 VISA interview yesterday at Mumbai yesterday. I am from Hyderabad, but had no slots here till 22nd DEC , so I booked appointment at Mumbai. My interview was at 8:15 AM.I reached there by 6:30 AM. Believe me, there was a huge line. They allowed me in by 7:45 AM.

After the security and finger prints, my turn has come. And the VISA officer asked me some regular questions.

Me: Good morning!!!!
VO: Good morning , how are you doing?
ME: I am doing good.Thank you.
VO: what is the purpose of going to US?
ME: for Knowledge Transfer.
VO: How long will you stay there?
ME: 6-12 weeks.
VO: That is too long.
ME: I explained him in detail.
VO: Why do you want to do it from US when you can do it from India as well?
ME: Explained.
VO: How long are you working with the current company.
ME: Answered.
VO: What is your current salary?
ME: Answered.

VO typed for a minute. I was tensed. He was expressionless. And after a minute , he told me "I am issuing VISA for you. We will courier our passport in 2-3 days"

ME: Thank you.

Friends, dress in formal and keep a good eye contact to the VO. Then you have very less chances for rejection.

Wish you all good luck.

B1 Visa
Hi All!

I appeared for a US B1 Visa Interview today at the US Embassy in Delhi.

The whole process went on smoothly. I was asked 3 straight forward questions about the purpose of travel, which conpany I work for, when did I join, and the name of my previous company. At the end, I was told that I have been issued a visa and I will get my passport within 5 working days.

I have 2 doubts regarding the process. If anyone of you could throw some light on these, it will be great:

1. Generally, for how long is the B-1 Visa issued. Could there be a case where it can be only issued for 1 month. At the time of submitting the application online, I was supposed to travel in Dec. However, later it was decided that I will only travel in Feb'11. I had the latest invitation letters from my company with me during the interview. However, the interviewing officer did not check any document. She has based her decision on the basis of my Dec travel dates. Hence I am a bit worried about the validity duration of my Visa.

2. I was not asked to provide a physical photograph to any of the counters. At the first counter, there was checking of the confirmation and appointment letter along with the blue HDFC receipt. At the next counter, there was the finger-printing (bio-metrics). At the 3rd counter, I gave my interview. The interviewing officer told me that she does not need the photograph. I am in doubts if I missed out giving my photograph at any other counter.

Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping to get my 10 Year ME Visa soon!

Please do share your views on the above mentioned doubts of mine!

Cheers!

Hi Everybody,

First of all thanks a ton to this wonderful website and comments by all you people. I want to share my interview with you.

I got an appointment of Chennai consulate for 6th Dec 8:45 am. It is raining heavily here from past 2-3 days. I got a cab for myself and reached the consulate at 8am. I was greeted by a umbrella-wala who was selling umbrellas. He demanded 150 rs for an umbrella and I had to give in coz I had no other option :) (I should have got an umbrella from my place though) These umbrella people are earning more than what we would earn there in the US :)

Had to stand in the queue for an hour or so. Then they gave me a token number. And I was guided into the consulate. Its just like a normal railway booking counter inside. I had very high perceptions that it would be a stunning place. But it was not. This made me calm a bit. There was nothing new in the place.

Then they scanned my documents and my finger prints were taken.

Then after 15-20 mins started my interview.

I HATE PEOPLE CALL ME A STAMMERER. I would rather call it a BAD SPEAKING HABIT. I have this speech defect from my birth. But this did not stop me in any way.

Excerpts:
VO: good morning
ME: good morning to you too
VO: Why are you going to US
ME: **** ****
VO: Who is your client
ME: **** **** **
VO: How long have you been working with your current employer
ME: **** **** **
VO:Have you been to US before
ME: **** **** *
And then there was a 2 min silence. She was typing something at her computer. I think she must be talking to her seniors regarding my speaking.
VO: Your Visa has been approved and it will be couriered in 3 days.
ME: WWWWOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWW :)

I fumbled a bit in my responses but the lady VO did not mind it.

One thing I wanted to ask here. She did not hand over the documents to me. Like DS-160 form, the interview confirmation page... She gave me nothing back. Is that OK?????

Please reply.

Thanks to immi,
Samir.
