2 Rejections (L1 Blanket and B1) followed by successful B1 approval
On 27th October , I finally got my B1 VISA after couple of rejections (L1 and B1) in last 5 years and this site was of great help so I just want to contribute back with my experience.

My interview time was at 9.30 but I reached early at 8.45 and went straight inside after submitting my mobile. So you can go early and enter.

Interview Details - There were something around 8 counteres and when I was in queue I can see different counters had different experiences so you can't say that one VO was more liberal than another.

Me - Good morning Sir
VO - Good morning , please handover the passport. So why are you travelling
Me - To attend company conference

VO - What is your title
Me - I am Senior Manager by title leading a team of 36 people

VO - Few morre questions related to conference and then asked have you ever got rejected for US VISA
Me - Yes sir

VO - Why were you rejected
Me - Sir, I am not sure, there must be some good reasons but now the circumstances have totaly changed and I have got a step up role in my company

VO - Your experience in current company
Me - 4.3 years

And finally the golden words.

I would say it was not a cake walk interview for sure as they pulled out my last rejection. So if you have some rejections before you have to convince VO that circumstances have changed.

Happy to help others if someone wants any advice.

B1 Visa - Mumbai
ME: Good morning man (with smile).
VO: <No response, no smile>

VO: Passport please.
ME: Gave her the passport.

VO: Why do u want to go to US?
ME: I have around 4 years of experince, and I am working with XX for more than one year now…..

VO: Why do u want to go to US? (She wanted me to come to the point)
ME: We are developing a new application (talked few lines about the application), for which I need to have meetings and technical discussion with onshore stakeholders, once I have all the requirements I will be coming back to india to develop the application.

VO: For how long you have been working with the current organisation?
ME: Its been more than one year now.

VO: You will get a message after two days.(She kept the passport.)
ME: Thank you.

I assume I have been granted the Visa.. :)
She did not hand me any slip/paper.

Few Points:
  1. Dress well (formals).
  2. Confidence. I think this is really important.
  3. Speak well, no fumbling.
  4. Look in the eye.
  5. Be prepared with as many questions as possible.
  6. Know what you have filled in DS-160, say the same when questions are asked.
  7. I think they like to the point answers, but you need to present your case such that it looks that your trip to US is required and you won’t abuse the visa. So provide what is required to make your case stronger and let the VO interrupt if they don’t want to listen.. ;)
 8. Never say you will work in the US, it has to be meetings and discussions only.
9. If you have Business visa of any other country, say that you never worked on business visa, it was all about meetings and discussion in previous visits to other countries. (A guy got rejected in front of me because of this.)

But truly it about luck too.

All the best!!

B1/B2 visa Experience
Me: Good Morning
VO: Good morning , Passport please.

VO: why are you going to USA?
ME: I have to attend requirement gathering and architecture meeting with client. Its an offshore project so I will come back and work in India after two weeks.

VO: Tell me about your project?
ME: we have a client ZZZ. They have bla things across America. They want to create an app etc etc.

VO: Have you ever been to US?
ME: No

VO: Whats your designation?
Me: Software Engineer

VO: How long have you been working with this company?
Me: 1 year 6 months

VO: Why cant this meeting be online?
Me: Actually our client is calling different vendors so it will be in diff timezones. So it would not be possible to attend as per IST timezone. Also face to face meeting are necessary to understand actual requirements.

VO: Sorry I cannot process VISA And (Handed me 214b) the officers ahead will tell you about this.
Me: Thank you sir

Can someone please tell me why my VISA got rejected? Am I having less experience or low designation level? Where It went wrong?

US Business Visa denied twice.
Visa Interview (Ist) Type B1/B2 Interview.
=========================================
I think I was denied because they suspected me of employment activity in US.

VO: Can you give me your passport please.
Me: Handed over the passport.

VO: What is your purpose of travel ?
Me: I am software engineer at X Company in New Delhi, India which is a subsidiary of Y Company based in NY, USA. A product will be going live next month and I will be required to be there for its deployment,

VO: What is the duration of your travel ?
Me: 30 days or 4 weeks. Initially it was only 2 weeks but then the requirement was such that i will have to be there for 4 weeks.

VO: What do you do ?
Me: I am a full stack engineer or you can call me a software engineer.

VO: Handed me 204(B). When I asked the reason , he said - This is not the right category of Visa that you are applying. Please tell your company X that you need to reapply with the right category.

Visa Interview (2nd) Type B1 Interview after 2 weeks.
=========================================
I was denied again. As per my DS-160, my visit was supposed to be of 12 days from Oct 30 to Nov 12, 2017. I wasn't asked for any documents (They ask for in very rare cases).

VO: Good morning, can I have your passport please.
Me: Good Morning, Sure.

VO: What is your purpose of travel ?
Me: I will be travelling to have extensive product training on two of our main products i.e., X and Y. I will be providing the same training to the Indian engineering team that I am leading once I come back. I will also be meeting our US clients like A, B and C to understand their requirements and speed up development from India.

VO: Have you worked at company Z (my previous company which is popular in India and known to everyone).
Me: Yes

VO: How long have you worked at Z.
Me: 2 years, exactly.

VO: Why haven't you travelled for business before ?
Me: I had some opportunities at company Z to travel to Toronto and HongKong but post its acquisition by company X(another giant compnay), circumstances changed and the the opportunities weren't left over.

VO: Your Accommodation in NY? This question was not clear to me, So, I asked her to repeat. I am doubtful if she asked about my month long accommodation here in India before i travel to US.
Me: Hampton Inn Manhattan

VO: What is your compensation ?
Me: X lpa (very good)

VO: What was your initial(first) salary ?
Me: Y lpa (decent enough)

VO: Do you have any oversees relatives ?
Me: No

VO: Are you married?
Me: No

VO: Have you been to any other country so far ?
Me: No

VO: Sorry, you can reapply when the circumstances change. I was handed 214(b) refusal i.e., I wasn't able to demonstrate close ties with my country.
Me: (Lost in darkness with a gloomy face.)

Please guide me on how can I proceed from this stage ?

Visa Approved 10 weeks
Hi guys,

This website has helped me a lot in preparing for my interview. At first I was skeptical of getting my visa because my duration of visit was longer and many people had the opinion that for such a long duration I wont get a visa. Let me share my experience.

VO: Hi, How are you?
Me: Im good, How are you? (with a smile)

VO: Can you hand me your passport.
Me: Sure.

VO: What is the purpose of your visit?
Me: Requirement analysis and design discussions on my company's product.

VO: and that is for ----- company?
Me: Yes.

VO: What is the duration of visit?
Me: ---- date to ----- date, which sums up to 10 weeks.

VO: What is your designation?
Me: Software engineer.

VO: Salary in lakhs per annum?
Me: --- LPA.

VO: Place you are visiting?
Me: <City>,<State>

VO: Isn't 10 weeks a lot of time for design discussions?
Me: Yes but I have ...... (gave a brief description of my schedule)

VO: Are you married?
Me: No, Im engaged.
VO: Oh, Congratulations.
Me: Thanks.

VO: Ok, your visa is approved. thank you.
Me: Thank you.

In the complete interview,
1. I had a smile on my face.
2. I was confident, not over confident.
3. I was dressed in formals. Had my company ID hanging from my neck.
4. I had nothing to hide, so it showed.
5. I wasn't overly rehearsed, so I didn't respond like a parrot. It was more of a conversation.
6. I knew I was coming back and made sure the VO knew the same.
7. For longer duration make sure you have a proper schedule.
