H1B Approved @ Mumbai
Hi All,

I had my H1b interview last tuesday!
Reached the Stars and Stripes Lounge @ 7 30.
My Interview was @ 8 30. For some reason Interviews were postponed by 45 mins. Got into the Van to Consulate when they called for our Slot.

Stood in the Queue outside the Consulate for Hardly 5 minutes. Anyone attending interview in Mumbai, please take the Lounge facility. You can have a comfortable time before the interview rather than standing in the queue outside.

After the security check, went inside took my Application which was submitted in Pune VFS center. Then followed by fingerprint scan. Got my token Number.

Interviews were happening pretty fast. And the token number is random. So please be attentive to the announcement when your number is called.

Interview:
VO: Good Morning!
Me: Good Morning!
VO: How are you?
Me: I am good, Thanks. How are you?
VO: Why do you want to go to the US?
Me: To design, develop and implement XX Application based on YY Technology?
VO: Good, So which company are you going for?
Me: X Inc
VO: Are you working for the same company currently?
Me: No
VO: Which Company are you working for now?
Me: ABC Technologies
VO: What do you do there?
Me: Develop XX Applications and do other Custom Developments based on YY Technology
VO: Are you married?
Me: No, I am Single
VO: What is your salary in your new company in US?
Me: XY k USD
VO: Congratulations , Your Visa has been approved. You will get your Passport within 7 days. Thank you.
Me: Thank you

Walked off from Consulate straight from Consulate to Phone Booth to call my dear ones as I didnt carry my cell phone.

So my advice to all is to: Be Confident! Be Precise!

Thats all Folks! All the best!

succesful H1b stamping@chennai
I work for a Big4 consulting firm
i had changed status from F1 to H1 but had not travelled to india for 3 years.I had first joined a desi consultancy firm and was afraid to go for stamping after hearing all the horror stories. After i transferred visa to the big4 firm, i finally got the confidence.

here is theinterview

Vo: Good afternoon
me: Good afternoon

Vo: is this your first time for H1b.
Me:well technically this is my first time but...(VO interrupted with a smile saying" oh so this is F1 to H1?"
me : yes ( with a smile too)

VO : ok how long have you been with xyz?
me : 7 months

VO : what do you do for them and what is your annual?
me: blah blah blah( VO wasnt even paying attention)

Vo: So you went to school in Michigan
me : yes

VO: what year did you graduate?
me:2006

Vo:before xyz where did you work?
me:(st this point i was worried bcoz my previous employr was a violator) yet i kept a straight face and said abc

Vo: can i see your employment verificaton letter and recent pay stubs
Me: (handed over the docs, at this point she said you Visa is issued have a nice day and threw my folder behind and screamed the next token number)

My main message for people is that if you are direct employee of a reputed firm, you need not worry at all.
While waiting in the consulate, i made a few friends and the general observation is that even if you are employer- vendor- client model, have the proper letter or documents stating the employer-employee relationship. Some people did get through in these cases.(you should have seen the sigh of relief on their faces)

while talking please be confident and consistent, please do not say anything that conflicts with what is on your apllication and Ds 160, some people got grilled for this

Please carry all documents(pay stubs, W2 etc).Better safe than sorry

Good luck.

H1B visa approved @ Chennai on 18th Feb.
Hi Guys,

A big thanks to this forum and to everyone who had shared their experiences before, those really helped. Below is what I came across,

I got My H1B visa approval on 18th Feb 2011. After initial verification of all the documents and finger print scanning, I was sent to the next building where Vo asked me only three questions.

Q1- What is your project?
While I was explaining about my project.. I was interrupted in between, he wanted me to explain my job profile also.
Q2- Who is your Client? and your Work location in US?
Internal// Dallas Texas
Q3- How much Slalary you will get in US?
Bla Bla Bla

Thats it, before I could tell my salary in US... VO said - "Sir your Visa is Approved. You will get back your passport in a weeks time, Enjoy your stay in US"

Note- The total time spent in front of the window was not more than a minute and there seemed no rejection cases for any H1B candidates, so just be cool and answer the questions correctly.

All the very best to everyone.

Regards
K Das

I attended visa interview with my wife today. My appointment was at 12:00 noon. I reached consulate by 11:30 am.

Guys please dont go too early. You will end up waiting in big queue. You can ask any security guard about where to stand for your appointment timings.

The interview went very well.

The conversation goes like this:

ME: Good afternoon maam. How are you doing today??
VO: Fine Thanks.
VO: Is it your first time H1B?
ME: Yes.
VO: Give me a movement(she looked at her system and started typing)
ME: Sure.
VO: Which city and State are you travelling?
ME: xxxx City, yyyy State
VO: (She echoed the same ) xxxx City and yyyy State, OK.

Questions to My Wife:

VO: Maam, When did you get married?
Answered.

She took my BEP folder, BEP Letters, DS160 confirmation letters,Interview appointment confirmation Letter along with passports.

ME: Maam, may I have my Folder please?
VO: We will send that to your company.

Guys, as many have pointed out, its just spur of moment(30- 90 seconds) that passes during which you should be confident and prove your worthness. Make sure that your answers never ever give room for doubt and recursive questions.
Talk very politely and with confidence.

All the best for all those who are planning to take interview in coming days.
I am sure your gonna post your experience soon in this forum .... :)

Note: For first timers to US consulate Chennai, don't panic, there are people to assist you in each step till the end. Just be calm and you will definitely do well.

Good luck once again..!!
