F1 OPT to H1-B - New Delhi - Admin Processing
I went for my consular visa interview for H1B on 18th October 2017 and after a few basic questions the officer told me that my "visa is approved". No slip was given.

CEAC website shows "Administrative Processing" and no case update since the 18th and Passport Tracking shows "Your passport is still with the US Embassy/Consulate".

I've been working in the US for the past 1 yr 3 months after graduation from my MBA program and took 10 days off to get the H1B stamped. It seems like the processing time is really high these days. I'm rescheduling today's flight to end of next week so I get another 7 business days.

It's really stressful going through this even after everything is approved and also after a positive verbal confirmation at the visa interview.

Is anyone facing a similar situation with their H1B visa experience? Any idea about the average processing times?

Thanks!

H4 Visa Stamp Dropbox - Mumbai US Consulate
Hi there,

This regarding my wife's H4 Dropbox. She submitted her passport and other documents on 16th Oct. When we check the status on CEAC, it says -
 "Application Received"
Case Created: 17-Oct-2017
Case Last Updated: 23-Oct-2017. Mumbai US consulate had two days off for Diwali (18th Oct and 19th Oct) as per their calendar. When they took the passport, they said you will get it in 3 to 4 days but the status is still showing "Application Received."

Is there anyone in similar situation? Please share your recent Dropbox experience.

Regards,
Saurabh

What are the risks of H1b transfer during these days?
Recently I have seen in news that the most people got RFEs for H1b visa extension this year, so I am worried to apply for H1b visa transfer.

If I apply for H1b visa transfer and if it got rejected then is there any chance that my current existing H1b to be revoked by USCIS saying any reason?

If the H1b transfer got rejected then do I need to inform my current employer or USCIS about the rejection during the extension filing? Do we need to fill these rejection details in DS160 for extension filing?

221g dropbox case
Posting here my experience and timelines for H1b/H4 stamping. Hope it helps:

Sept 12: Submitted documents at dropbox location. H1B and H4. I had a new petition with an employer change.

Sept 14: Documents reached Chennai consulate
Sept 15: Visa status changed to Administrative processing

I did get any intimation from consulate or any updates from US travel docs. US travel doc's agent asked to wait for 10 calendar days to know the real status of my application. I

Sept 25: Sent email to US travel docs asking for status and got a reply saying my application is under administrative processing under 221g.

Oct 3rd: Passport document status changed and it was returned with a blue slip in it (both mine and my spouse). A canceled seal was on my expired visa. In blue slip, they asked for a new photo and attend interview to rescan finger prints.

Oct 6th: Went to Chennai consulate with all letters / documents (though they asked for just photo) for interview. In first counter, took our blue slip, passport and photo. scanned photo and returned. then directed to another counter for finger prints. Finger prints was taken there and then directed to 3rd counter for interview. there was a long queue for the third one and we can hear conversations of other applicants. Officers were asking all common questions like where are you going, salary, client letter, offer letter etc to applicants. So we were also expecting similar questions.

Our turn came, officer took blue letter and passport. She did something on computer and then said we are all set! we were surprised for the fact that they didn't ask any questions to us, but were happy that they took our passports.

Oct 10th: Visa status changed to Issued.
Oct 12th: Received passport with visa stamped.

Reached back in US on oct 16th - by the grace of God. Good luck for all who got 221g. Hope my experience will help you :)

h1b for post doc in hyderabad
Today I have received h1b visa for doing post doc. My family (wife and 2 yr son) received h4. I was little worried as, h1b itself at Hyderabad would be difficult and moreover, I have received partial payment offer. I got offer for post doc with 2/3 the monthly wage (LCA got cleared by showing per hour wage).
The visa interview went something like this:

VO: Goodmorning
Me: goodmorning.

VO: Can I see your I797B
Me: passed on the original.

VO: Where are your currently working.
Me: Explained.

VO: Do you have a PhD:
Me: Yes. from so and so college.

VO: What is your PhD specialization.
Me: Explained about my area and what I did in my PhD briefly.

VO: Do you use YYYY in your work.
Me: Yes. Explained where and how.

VO: In which area will you work during post doc.
Me: Explained.

VO: Asked further questions to explain my research area:
Me: Explained.

NOW THE MOST CRITICAL QUESTIONS:

VO: Why are you going for H1 instead of J1:
Me: Explained that H1 can be processed quickly than J1 (I got H1b petition cleared in premium processing quota) and that if I get some project funding I can stay longer with H1 which is not possible with J1.
VO: Smiled after listening to my above answer.

VO: How much will you earn.
Me: Said the amount mentioned in I 129 copy.
VO: How much per annum.
Me: Said the value.
VO: Thought for a while and said ok.

Questions to my wife:

VO: How long have you been married.
Wife: Said the years.
VO: When did you first meet your husband.
Wife: Said the answer.
VO: How many people attended your marriage.
Wife: Said the apprx no of people attended.
VO: Is this your only child?
Wife: Yes.
VO: How old is he?
Wife: 2 yrs
VO: Where was he born?
Wife: Hyderabad.
VO: Which hospital:
Wife: Said the name of hospital.

DONE!!!>> Ok your visas are approved.

Cairo Consulate H1B Stamping Experience
Background: I am an Egyptian citizen have been working on F1-OPT since January 2017 and got picked in the lottery. I changed my status to H1B on 10/01/17 and traveled to Cairo, Egypt on 10/15/17 for visa stamping.

Here is my experience:

VO: Good afternoon, are you applying for H1B?
Me: Yes.

VO: Do you work in accounting?
Me: No, I work in a construction company (the officer though that I work as an accountant because the designation may seem to be accounting related however it has zero accounting)

VO: So what do you do?
Me: Explained it to him.

VO: How long have you been doing this job?
Me: Since January 17.

VO: Where is the office located?
Me: Answered.

VO: Did you come here for visa stamping before?
Me: Yes I came for F-1 stamping, I did my master in Civil Engineering from XY University.

Then the officer was typing for 2-3 minutes, it felt like ages for me.

VO: Your petition is approved and your visa is also approved, you should receive the passport in the mail in within a week.

Me: Thank you
VO: Good Luck!
