H1B, H4 Visa

First of all, thanks to this website and all contributors to guide on entire process.

I went with my wife and two years old daughter

Day1 was just biometric

You need to carry DS 160 confirmation page print, kids photographs in us visa picture specification and passport

Do not carry mobile, wallet, coins, bags, Keep all document in transparent plastic envelop.
 

You can carry other document on day 1 but keep the above documents handy.

Just go 30 mins before your schedule time slot, if you are with infants/kids, they will take you first.

They will check passport, ds160 confirmation and appointment letter and let you go to first floor where they will match the details of ds 10 confirmation with your passport.and, will ask you to go to next floor.

Here you will go thru security check, and again your appointment letter, passport and ds 160 for details will be scanned and passed thru three different desks.

They will put barcode stickers on the passport and will ask you to take token and wait till your token number flash on tv screens in waiting area.

Once you get your number they will ask details related to your passport, like
- Name, DOB, place of birther, and when is your consulate visa interview.

Then they will take finger prints for first, all eight fingers and then two thumbs, and that's it you can leave for the day.

Day 2:
Try to reach 30 mins before time slot
Do not carry water bottle, bags, coins, wallet, mobile. Keep documents in transparent plastic envelop.

There will be couple of security checks before you enter thru the building and they will stamp the dates on your ds 160 or appointment letter.

Keep passport, ds160, appointment letter and petition (I-797) copy handy

First queue will be to confirm your figure prints and match you with the picture taken the previous day, Then they will send you to next queue.

And, following questions were asked from Visa Officer
 
VO: What is your name
Me: mentioned exactly as given in passport

VO: Purpose of visit
ME: work at client location

VO: Who is your Client ?
ME: xyz

VO: Who is your employer
ME: abc

VO: What will be your salary?
ME: xxxx $ per year

VO: Who else is traveling with you ?
ME: My wife and my daughter

VO: What will you do in US
ME: I explained my job title and role I will be playing in US

VO: What is your current designation
ME: Tech Lead

VO: Can I ask few questions to your wife ?
Me: Sure!

To my wife
VO: When did your marriage happened ?
She: explained

VO: What is your DOB?
she: explained

VO: When did you meet him for first time?
she: yyyy year

VO: Ok, I am approving your visa!
And, he handed over two booklets stating "your rights when you are in US" It quite helpful. and he asked us to read it later.

And, that's it, he collected the passport and we were done for the day.

before the interview night i didnt sleep at all ..i dont knw why
so i had 2 coffees and was ready for the intervuew

    (VO look was serious he was asking too many questions to other people before me )
VO: am good thnx sir
    who is your petetioner ?
ME : said company name

ME :Do you want me to spell for you ?
VO: no i got it ..
VO: Which client are you working ?
ME :well it's a inhouse project for my employer
    though i will be working for multiple projects
    But i will be working through my employer
VO: ok what is the project name ?
ME : said
VO : Never heard about it ..
ME: well its in designing phase and will
be implemented by the end of the year and will be start selling the products ..
VO: ok what is the project all about ?
ME : said about the project
V0: ok sir your visa is approved ..
me : thanks sir and ran off from their

 i dont knw why people get queries am really sad for them for me it was cake walk ...
 confidence is the key

Hello every one,

I was on F1 opt status and my wife was on F2 opt, both of us now in USA. my employer filed H1b for me, and asked me to file H4 for my wife, (there were miscommunication and misunderstanding that I need to wait until I get approved so I can file H4 for my wife).
The situation now I got approved for H1b and my wife F2 OPT status ended (out of status for a week now).
1) Can I still be able to file I-539 for my wife while she is here in the USA, even she is considered out of status? If yes there is still a chance to get it , is there a prediction based on your experience?
2) How long can my wife stay in USA waiting to I-539 response, considered safe duration to stay in USA in out of status state, in case the response takes long time.

Firstly Thanks to all posting your valuable suggestions and experiences. I had read many of the thread before my H1B interview and they really helped me a lot and prepare well.

I had attend the interview with my wife and 2 kids.

- On 19th Feb, I attended for biometrics at 4pm and completed it in hardly in 30mins. There is no crowd and even I approached the venue a hour before the schedule time. Security had let me in directly and completed it without any hassle in 30mins.
- Regarding the parking at Mumbai OFC, there is a local parking area available and you can park your car without any worry. They are charing hardly Rs. 50/- per 3 hours.

- On 23rd Feb, I had my Visa interview scheduled at 10am. I had reached the venue by 9.15am and parked the car in MMRDA parking next to Embassy. Just next to Embassy building, the parking is available. So need to worry for the car park over there also. So drive pleasently with your cars on both the days.

- I attended the interview with my wife and 2 kids.

Below is my interview experience:

- Greetings exchanged between me and VO.
VO - Greeted my 7yrs old son "Good morning Young man" and he too greeted him. VO asked are they your parents and which class are your studying. My son replied him polietly.

VO - Can I have your passports please.
Me - Handed over the passports and I797.
VO - Since how long are you working with xxxx Company.
Me - Its a new employment.
VO - How did you came across this opportunity
Me - One of my friend is working in this xxxx Company and he referred for the job under employee referral.
VO - What is your total years of exp
Me - Told my total years of exp.
VO - What is your Role in this project and designation
Me - Told my role and designation in 2 lines
VO - What is your salary
Me - Told xx$ per annum
VO - What is your highest qualification
Me - Told my qualification
VO - Can I have some questions to your wife.
VO - How do you know your husband
My wife - Met him during my marriage
VO - How long are you married
My wife - told x years
VO - Is it an arranged or Love
My wife -- It's an arranged.

VO - What do you know about your xxx Company
Me - Told 2 lines about my sponsor company.
VO - Who is your client.
Me - Told the name of the client. No questions or client letter is asked. Still I have my client letter and complete info of my Project.

Finally golden words came " YOUR VISA IS APPROVED" and you will recieve your passport in 2-3 working days.

VO - Do you have the rights forms with you?
Me - I told i got them when i entered the premises and thanked him and left the counter.

I would say, the VO's are cool and they are just watching our confidence and way of reply. I can see 9 out of 10 are approved when I am passing the line to the counter.

Be confident, just give simple answer in one word and do your home work by reading the blogs updated in this portal and others. I had prepared the complete questions for me from reading all the questions and answers. There will be hardly 15 questions that will be repeated by all the VO's.

First I would like to thank to the Admin for creating a forum where all of us can share our experiences.

Couple of months back I have got RFE and my Employer has responded to that and still the status is same.
Recently my employer has raised a case to USCIS and in response he was told that, they have sent my case to Security/Security Check.

Is anyone aware what is Security Check and how long it may take to get updated?

I had biometric scan on 02/17/2016 and interview was on 02/18/2016.

She took my passport first & then asked these questions in interview.

1. Who filed the H1 petition for you ?
A. I told company name who sponsored.
2. Are you working for client ?
A. Yes
3. Who is your client ?
A. I told the client name.
4. What is your role ?
A. Java Developer
5. How long you are working for your client ?
A. 3 yrs

Then heard the message, Your visa is approved...!!!!

Feb 18th - OFC (no questions asked and we are done in about 1.5 hrs)
Feb 19th - attended the visa interview

I am on EVC model and no documents were asked. Here are the questions asked.

What is the name of your employer?
What's your designation?
What's your annual salary?
What's your highest qualification?

My wife was asked just her mother in law's name.

18th Feb Biometric Experience.
It was straigzht forward, only details written on the DS160 confirmation page is verified.
No other question asked, Biometric people are the Indian Person, and process is very fast.

On 19th Febuary, Queue is too long, our appointment was at 10.00 AM and we reach the embassy at 9.00 AM , there was a long queue , we were able to reach the interview place at approx 10AM only i.e After waiting 1 hour in a queue.

Interview was very short.

1. Are you working with Company ZZZ.
I said yes.

2. What is your salary?
I told both US as well as India Salary.

Question to My Wife.
1. What is your highest Qualification.

Nothing else. I was surprised that Consulate told us in hindi.
"APKA VISA HO GAYA HAI, 2 -3 DIN MEIN AAPKO MESSAGE/EMAIL AA JAYEGA."
