H4 to H1 Interview Experience - Kolkata Consulate
I was not asked a lot of questions and it was generally in the form of conversation. As far as I remember, these were the questions I was asked

1. What are you working as?
2. Can you please describe what the title entail or describe what a person in your position does?
3. Which clients are you working for / who else you will be working for in the future?
4. Where will you be working? City/State
5. Where are you staying presently? (Please note that I am staying at a different city and will be moving for work and I mentioned it clearly)

All the visas on my passport were checked and my F1 visa was cancelled as I am no longer studying. I went to US to study and completed my OPT and came back. I was married last year and moved back to US. We had discussion about the universities in US in general and how I liked it there. What are the courses I took. I told about the courses I remembered and the ones that were linked to my job title. Then the visa officer said my visa is approved and wished me well. I said thank you and left the counter. I am still waiting for my passport.

And as everyone in this forum has said, the key to the interview is confidence. Don't make up stories as I saw a lot of people fumble and make up answers. Remember the visa officer is there to issue a visa and help us in the process. Let them ask the questions and answer to the best of your knowledge. You don't have to blurt out your answers as soon as they ask something. Always remain calm and composed. Being a professional, that is the minimum they would expect of any technical or non-technical person.

This forum has been really helpful and I would be really glad if I can offer help to anyone. The company I will be working with is a very small company and new on the block. I got a RFE for my H1 and it was cleared once the company submitted all the requested documents. H1 is both about the employer and the employee . I would say research your employer well and have your facts straight. If a person is moving to a different country for work, the least they expect from the person is to research the place of work and city of stay.

All the best to everyone.

H1B Visa Interview at Chennai on 31st Dec
Thanks to IMMIHELP.com. Really a very helpful tool for going through all experiences before the visa interview. I am sharing my experiences. My visa interview was held at Chennai.

I handed over my 4 current passports ( including my spouse and children) to the VO officer and greeted the VO - Good Morning Officer and the VO officer also responded back.

VO: Who is your employer?
Me: YYYY YYYY

Asked me to spell it.

VO : Who is your end client?
Me: I will be directly employed by the company. But, I would also work on projects for client YYYY X.

VO: Oh. OK

VO: So, which location you would be based?
Me: YYYY YYYY

VO: So, explain me about your work?

Me: I would be working as IT project manager and xxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx would also be carrying out project status report, weekly status report and manage escalations if required. That is in brief about my roles and responsibilities.

VO: When did you receive your petition. ( Probably he meant "Approved Petition").
Me: Answered

VO: OK..... Then Paused for 5 seconds and then said I am approving your visa. Please give me a minute as I update in the system.
In the mean time, please go through these pamphlets that describes your rights in US and handed over 2 pamphlets.

Then VO turned over to my spouse and then asked:

VO: So, Do/would you like USA Ma'am?
My spouse: YYYY XX

VO: Oh! which place
My wife: YYYY X

Then, VO turned over to my daughters and asked?
VO: So, you young ladies.....how did you like US?

My elder one said : I lived in xxxxxxx ...................
Younger one : I was not born at that time

VO: Started laughing and said .. Ok so you were not born at that time. ... Then he turned over to me and my spouse and did a gesture of "Thumbs UP" and said "Enjoy" and "Happy new year"....

It was a brief interview. My attire was completely formal and I tried to be confident during the interview. Not sure how much confident was I, Though. :)

I think that it all boils down to being confident and honest during the interview. These was a huge crowd of candidates on 31st Dec and VO's also have a lot of pressure to clear as many candidates as possible and what they look for is basically our confidence and straight-forward answer during those short window of interview.

Thanks to all of you. Please note that you all will get H1B stamped as they have no reason not to give until and unless there is a some valid and strong reason for not doing so.

All the best and Happy new year!!!!

H1B Visa interview at Hyderabad
Dear all ,

I got some useful information from this website regarding the interview questions. It becomes my duty to share my experience so that it can help others. I have attended H1B interview on Jan 4 ,2015 and my visa is approved.

Below are the questions asked :
1) Which company you are going to work ?
2) Where it is located ?
3) What is your designation ?

No documents were asked .

A word of advise for the people who are going to attend Visa interview at Hyderabad. When you are standing in the queue and waiting for the officer's call, you can easily hear the interviews going on in the counters (your counter and the adjacent counters). Don't let your mood be distracted because of that.

   All the best for everyone.

Is Client Letter Mandaotory for Interview?
Hi Friends,

I have interview scheduled next week in Hyd Consulate. I have a question regarding the client letter.

I am working for one of the well established company in India. I have filled H1B with Client location as work location in US and I have got the LCA posted with the client address itself. But when I have asked my client about Client Letter, they said they will not provide the client letters. Now I feel the heat. Is it OK to attend interview without client letter by mentioning the same when VO asks for it?
Please advice.

Regards,
Jyothi
