H1B, H4 Visa

Hi All,

I went to the Mumbai consulate for H1B visa interview.

VO : Which company u r going to work?
ME : i said company name.

VO: which project u r going to work?
ME : said project name

VO : r u going to work at client place?
ME : i said no, i ,m going to work at my employer place for the client, bcoz in my case was like that..

VO: wht salary u will be get in US?
ME: i said salary

VO: which city u r going to US?
ME : said city

VO : again she was asking abt some client details and work?
ME: again i said and i was stick to that point what i said earlier in question..

and after that she was typing and checking something in computer and she gave me blue form and she ticked 5 boxes (asking some more docs from petitioner's side)

she didnt ask any docs but actually i hav all the documents from my petitoner's side . i was thinking shud i tell or not bcoz without not ask i not suppose to tell directly like that )

can u pls tell me is this positive if we submit the all docs which was asked..?

pls put ur inputs anybody have idea.


 i m really appreciate and would be a help for me.

I have attended H1B interview on 1 Nov 2011.
Admin processing is going on for my case.

As part of it, DHS people gone and verified my employment in person at client place.

is there any one had similar situation in the past or recent? Any one have any idea how long it will take after this verification to issue the visa.

I went in through security, waited for a few hours then was called to the window

VO: Why do you want to travel to the USA?
Me: I have a job to get back to

VO: Which city?
Me: San Francisco

VO: What do you do:
Me: Answer

VO: Salary?
Me: Answer

VO: ok, please pay 340 USD Reciprocity fee at window and your visa will be ready in a week, congrats, enjoy your trip.

Overall the interview took less than a minute. The only documents requested were my passport and the approved I-797A

I visited yesterday for H1B visa interview but I was given green slip u/s 221(g) to submit documents (i.e.first four boxes were ticked) and asked to submit through VFS. My question whether the said documents need to sent in original or printout from scan copy will do? And after submission of the said documents how many days it will take for issuance of visa.

Then he looked at me and said Really.

That's all, Very Simple. Visa got approved.

I was already travelled with H1B to US in 2007, so be confident, don't get tensed, it will be very easy.

Thanks a lott to this forum for helping all visa applicants to prepare for the interview.

Now a days consulate at BKC is overcrowded so try to reach much before time. Also it does not matter even if you reach much early you have to stand in long queue.

Thumb rule:

If interviewer is guy your are lucky n safe else u are screwed up.

Questions asked:

Salary India & US.
Client Name.
Asked for original Petition.

That's it done!!!!!

I had successfull H1B visa interview today at Mumbai. I am really thankful to this site and site members who shared their experiences and lessons learnt. I also would like to highlight some pointers here.
Here is the story :)

Appointment was scheduled at 9:30 AM, reached VFS center at 8:20 AM. Waited in a very long queue till 9:35 AM
At 9:35 got in and got the token.
Waited in another queue of finger printing till 10:20 AM.
My number came at 10:55 AM appx.

VO was a middle aged lady.

VO - Hi GM how are you?
Me - GM, I am doing good, how are you?

VO - Can you give me approved petition?
Me - Handed over it.

VO - Who will be the employer?
Me - ZZZ

VO - What will be your roles and responsibilities?
Me - Confidently said - Three major roles -
1. Blah 1
2. Blah 2
3. Blah 3

VO - Onsite Manager name?
Me - Mr. ZZZ

VO - What is the salary?
Me - I got confused and asked Indian or US? Then answered US salary

VO - What is your highest education?
Me - Blah 4

VO - Are you single?
Me - Blah 5

VO - Have you read white pamphlate?
Me - Yes

Tadaanggg..... Then the golden words ....

VO - Your visa is approved, you will receive your passport in some days.
Me - Thank you very much.
Not a single document was asked.

Before my turn she staright away handed green slip to 2 people. She was very particular on the question your roles and responsibilities, the earlier 2 guys were telling something which was non technical and sort of bluffing. 1 guy was answering in very loud voice and was using informal words in the interview.

The points I want to share are -

1. Please mug up form DS 160.
2. Beofre submiiting DS 160 on VFS site, take printout of each page so that you can mug it up later :)
3. Please mug up manager details including his phone number.
4. Roles and responsibilities should exactly match with what is written in DS 160 and BEP letter ( mine was BEP case)
5. H1B new folks should take 6 months bank statement that too stamped by the bank not simple printout.
6. Carry one xerox copy of every document even though they do not ask any document nowdays.
7. Be very much confident. They judge you and decide in first 2 Q&A.
8. Buy a folder which contains multiple partitions so that you can takeout the required document quickly and do not jumble.
9. Look staright into VO's eyes, confidence is the real key.

I had my visa interview yesterday for a student visa at the US consulate in Hyderabad. My case was a little different from others because I already had a valid F1 visa and needed another one as I had been out of the US for more than 5 months. I got my first F1 visa in 2008 (valid till June 2013). I completed my MS in 2010 and worked for a year in the US till July 2011. Then I spent 3 more months in the US traveling around and then returned back to India. I got a PhD admission for Spring 2012 and hence needed another F1 visa to go back as I was technically 'out of status'. I got a fully funded admission but I was still a little worried for my visa interview (because I knew that I will have to clearly and succinctly explain why i need a second visa and also properly take care of the dreaded 214(b) clause). Here is my experience:

I got an interview slot of 9:15 am. I reached the Consulate at 8 am. The police constables asked us to come back at 9 to be able to get into the consulate. At 9 I walked into the US consulate and went through security check, document review, finger printing etc. All this took close to an hour. Finally i got the token for my visa interview. I waited for about 15 minutes in the waiting room before my token number was called for. There are three interviewing counters in the Hyderabad consulate and they are open (no cubicles like Bombay ) hence you can pretty much hear what questions the three officers are asking and what responses they are getting. This can either help you or distract you, so be careful

The interview: I had an Indian guy (may be an American Indian) who took my interview.
Me: Good Morning
Officer: Hi
Officer: Took my documents, looked at his computer and said 'so you already have a valid F1 visa why do you need another one?'
Me: I explained him that I did my MS and worked for a year and then returned back to India.
Officer: Excuse me, so you did not finish your MS?
Me: No, I did finish my MS from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Officer: Can I see your transcripts from MS?
Me: I gave him the transcripts and my degree certificate. He did not take the degree certificate.
Officer: He looked at my transcripts then asked me why i want to go for my PhD.
Me: Because I enjoy doing research and I want to be a professor.
Officer: Which campus are you going to?
Me: University of Texas at Austin.
Officer: What is your field of research exactly?
Me: Robotics and Controls.
Officer: Your visa has been approved.

Then I walked out and was glad that it did not turn out to be that big of deal that I was thinking or making it to be.

My advice based on this experience: practice your answers before you go for the interview. Write down answers to all the common questions and practice them. The answers should be short and to the point. The longer you ramble, the longer the interviews goes, the more questions/doubts come into the Interviewer's head and the more questions he/she will ask. Practice your answers, dress formally and smartly, and at least look confident even if you are nervous on the inside. These things make it a little easy.

that's it. It was less than 15secs.......
