Some what unpleasant passport re-issue experience at India PSK
Hi,
I want to share an experience at Counter B. I applied for re-issue for passport (a 14 yr old passport) to add my wife's name in it. At counter B officer told me that passport damaged and he asked me to provide affidavit “Annexure L” and pay extra 1500/-. I do not know why extra 1500 are needed here.
By the way when I asked what exactly is wrong with the passport, he told me some of the pages are faded on the top left due to moisture (watermarks). I did notice that but watermark were not more than 3 mm thick and all the information in the passport and stamps in the passport was fully intact. I found it sheer waste of time and money as I needed to again go back to PSK with the “annexure L” and extra 1500/-. Why do they need to worry about trivial damage in passport when anyway I applied for re-issue?

I submitted my application at 19th Sept 2012 Gurgaon & today I have received my Passport on
31st October 2012.
I just want to say that this service provided by Government is very good. Each and every stage , I got a transparent approach and there was nothing like “Sarkari Kam “ .
The status updates were sequentially-
1. Application submitted at Passport (19.09.2012)
 2 . Passport detail sent to SP office(20.09.2012)
3 passport physical police verification pending at your Thana (21.09.2012(
4 police verification submitted at SP office by your respective thana. Now under SP office review (
     3.10.2012)
5 Police verification report has been submitted by SP office (online only). Passport printing is in progress, you will get sms/mail after dispatch. (5.10.2012)
 6. The passport will be dispatch after receiving report ( formally physically ). You will get sms/mail
      after dispatch ( 12.10.2012 , This status was one time again updated but language was just almost same. We can consider this status shown for 2 weeks approx )
7 Passport dispatched on 29.10.2012. Tracking Id are ***********.

The bottle neck is police verification. Generally after submission of application within 2 weeks , you might be called at your respective police station. Then your local thana will definitely submit their report within 7 days ( since the day you visited Thana). Then SP office will intimate Passport kendr ( I think online document ). At this stage when your passport showing printing stage , it means you are getting your passport 100% . Then after receiving police verification formally as previously only intimation was given to save time. As soon as PSK receives your report. Then you can expect within 3 days your Passport will be dispatch by speed post. & you can expect within 2-3 days you will get your PASSPORT. About the status I have pasted

My personal experience is awesome. At every stage , I have felt a good atmosphere dealing with PSK & police persons. Nothing was delayed. Everything was going smoothly expected. Thanks to Passport department & police Staff for their best service efforts. We hope every department of our India adopt this culture.

spelling mistake in surname 2yrs old Passport(it is correct in application form)
I got passport with spelling mistake in my surname one and half year back, but I am very sure that it was correct in application from. I heard that i may have to re-apply for passport since it is more than 6 months. Please let me know what action i have to take..

US Visa rejection being Genuine
Hello,
I had applied for my US visa last month, I reason i want to travel to the US is to attend my cousin brothers wedding. I carried all my import papers along with I134 affidavit, but the counsil officer rejected me under section 214B, without even looking at the documents I carried. I went a month later for my 2nd interview which was worse the officer asked me 3 questions and rejected me again. How do I make sure he looks at all the documents that show evidence i will return to my home country,

Renewal with Tatkal
I deposited appn.on 20 Jan.2012. Even after police verification a month before, online status shows nothing. May be they are dealing on regular process as no emergency reason was given and application was submitted and interview given same day as for convenience. Should I wait,for my passport has already expired?

Renewal of Spouse (H4) Passport at New York
I am on H4 and send my passport by mail for renewal at the consulate,NY.
It arrived in exact 2 weeks.I believe if you submit all the required documents, then there should not be any problem.Don't blame the consulate, because they can not afford to spend time on individual case.Even I had experiences like my calls were not answered or hanged up.But whenever the calls were picked up, the ladies on other side talked to me very gently and answered all my questions.Keep following by making calls.
P.S.- Marriage certificate is a valid document for new address in case of change of address (In laws address)

Indian passport renewal at Indian Consulate,,NY -- very bad service
When applied for my husband's passport renewal, new passport came with a very dark & unidentifiable photograph and all clumsy. Very unprofessional work. So we requested for a new one again. No response for a month. It was very tough to get in touch with them. Finally, passport arrived..with a better photograph. But two entries were wrongly spelt including address.!! Its unbelievable how unprofessional the place is.!! We had to forgo a family emergency, and waste of time and money. Now, we have to apply again, just imaagine we'll have to carry 4 (or even more..who knows!!) passport books from now on. Its so disgusting that such a high profile organization works so unprofessional & reckless. It's a shame what a bad rep this place gives to people about India.

PROCEDURE OF REISSUING INDIAN PASSPORT-2010
1stly reissue is different from renewal..we often tend to merge the words as synomns.reissue= when u already have a ppt that has or is abt to expire & u need 1 reissue in lieu of the expired / expiring one.
1.log passport.gov.in/mumbai.go to the online application bullet.
2.a tableau will pop up which reqs you to fill info
like name,surname,parents names , address,years of stay at residence,birthdate ,passport ( ppt ) number , file no , date of issue ,expiry date , height , body identification mark , birthplace , residing in x place since x nos of yrs etc.fill in these fields
3.gone are the days when u went to passport office worli & bought a form for rs.10/.u need to go via an online form format so that u get a form duly printed with the appt date & time at which u need to reach worli.normally appt is given 4 days frm ur filling in the tableau.the latter is printed via an online system on the right hand horizontal on each page of the ppt form & also the police verification form which is known as the personal particulars ( pp )form.pp form comes automatically in dupliactes with certain prior printed tableau fed in info.
4.once the tableau is filled the due form will b on ur screen with certain details already PRINTED on it.plz note that name , surname , date of birth, parents names , birthdate , birthplace , residence address, yrs at that address , ppt number , date / place of issue come in a printed format on the form.if by chance u have forgotten to fill some fields
as i had specified in point no.2 , the prints wont reflect in the form and thats not accepted by the ppt
office.no blog/website tells u this nuance!the rest of the form needs to b filled in caps in blue / black ballpoint manually.
5.1 photo unsigned needs to b afixed on ppt form & 2 signed photo's reqd on pp form.
6.documents like ration card , pan card , birth certificate , graduation certificate need to be attached ( self attested ) in duplicates for submission.when u go to the ppt office carry originals & these duplicates.
7.when u reach ppt office outside there's already a serpentine queue!!whether people r given a 10 am time or 12 noon on x date, there's a queue.the gates open at 9.45 am & by 10 am they segregate people on basis on reissue / renewal/damaged ppt reqts & time of appt.so if there are 50 people who r given the time on 10 am on x date , if u reach at 9 am u maybe 40th in the queue though according to u , u have gone 1 hour before ur designated time of appt.
8.there's a separate queue for senior citizens wherein they can move into the counter area faster.a good noble caring sign for the elderly.
9.inside there are several counters ( few operational not all ) & the guard will guide u randomly where to go.
9.at the counter,the expiring ppt gets stamped as cancelled & returned & documents chked against originals-latter returned,duplicates taken.
10.u move to the payment queue,wherein u pay rs.1000
for reissue.if u pay in notes of rs.500 ur cell number & name is noted.
11.at payment counter u get a computerized receipt which acknowledges payment & has a file number that helps u track ur ppt status in the days to come on the same website.key in ur file no & the status of the application with name etc comes up.
12.u may go online & chk ur application status on the ppt website to see if they've processed ur details for police verification.mine showed that "police verification hasnot yet been recvd" , but the police dropped in home the very next day, asked for an identification ( eg pan card ) & gave a typed receipt that u need to come within 3 days to ur local police station for verification.if no one 1 is at home they max drop in twice , so keep some1 at home to entertain their query.this receipt tells u the documents that
u have to take with u to the police station.
13.at police station u need to carry 3 ppt size photos & documents listed in their receipt given to u ...its normally residence proofs , ppt pages , pan card , voters id , marriage certificate , letter by 2 residents of ur locality.if u dont have all the categories , its ok.take the originals + 1 xerox copy of each document- the xerox the police takes with the 3 photos.they make u sign on a two paged form with ur landline no below ur sign.they afix 1 photo on this form & 1 in their register wherein u sign again & write ur cell no.below it - dont know what they do with the 3rd photo!
14.fyi-if u call 1090 - its a CID police verification teledesk -they'll tell u that "many a times" reissue maynot req police verification procedures.
so that means that the ppt will b directly couriered at the residence address 45 days frm the application date.
