I have a valid L1B which is valid till 2016. I have not travelled till now to US with any visa. My husband is working in US with L1B now. We both are working in the same organisation. Since there is no possiblity for me to travel in L1B now my company has agreed to file L2 for me and my son (4years old)..
Please help me out with the expected questions for the interview for L2.
My L1A blanket was denied in mid July 2014. The reason given then was that I do not qualify for this type and this visa type is more for my Manager. My designation then was associate manager.
My company decided to file L1A blanket again and my interview is on 13th Feb. My designation is now manager and the project role is also different than what it was in July 2014.
Blanket petetion number remains the same.
Any suggestions and what are my chances of approval
Hi All,
Many thanks to all the wonderful people at Immihelp, esp Raghavi, for all your guidance. My case was a bit unique as I am on L1 and my husband was on L2. Besides that, since I have been working for a product company, I was hoping the visa process would be smooth and thankfully it was.
We did our fingerprinting at Mumbai one week before flying to Chennai. Mumbai was very fast, don't reach too early or they make you stand outside in the sun.
Chennai consulate has very long queues. We reached at 9:50 for our 10:30 interview and only got in the building at 11:00. So you can imagine the long queues. There is one slow moving queue for each half hour slot, earlier you come sooner you get in, but make sure that you stand in the correct queue. First queue is outside the consulate. Then when finally your turn comes, you are allowed inside the consulate for the second queue. Once inside, helpful staff will ask you to remove the triplicate copies of your I797 and I129S, your passports and DD and they organize it for you and tie it in a rubber band. They make you write your name and passport number of the primary applicant behind the DD.
The final slow moving queue is at the counter for paying the DD. I was the only female in this queue, making me think that there are no female primary L1 applicants, at least on that day.
Once the DD is paid, we are moved to a bigger hall. On the left side, there are counters where VOs are sitting, we are supposed to look on the screen which flashes the token number we were given once we entered the building. Remember that all the halls are crowded and some people we even standing. Our number flashed on the screen in 2 mins and we stood in queue in front of the respective counter.
By the time we reached there, the time was 11:30 am, just so you can get an idea of the wait.
My VO was a young lady and she quickly approved a B1 visa and an L1 visa of an Infosys employee working at client site. I found it strange that she was the only VO speaking on the mike which was loud enough so that everyone on the floor heard her. But she seemed really nice and put me at ease.
Now it was my turn:
We greeted each other.
VO: What is your specialization?
Me: Worked on ProductA and ProductB which are proprietary products of my company.
VO: What is your salary in the US?
Me: Answered.
VO: Who is your client?
Me: I will be working at my primary company site.
VO: Have you designed and developed any product from scratch?
Me: Yes, ProductB. (Added after a pause.) We are still developing it.
VO: (Smiled back. To my husband.) Sir, what is your highest level of education?
Hubby: Answered.
VO: (Turned to the computer and started typing fervently.)
Me: (Started praying fervently.)
VO: (Realizing that I was still looking at her expectantly.) Oh, your visa is approved, I am just entering it in the system. (Gave me two copies of I129S and I797.) Give one copy to your HR and one at the port of entry.
Me: (Relieved) Thanks and have a good day.
Some tips for potential applicants:
1. Prepare answers for all the expected questions. Better to be overprepared than underprepared. We carried loads of documents including our marriage album, but they only looked at the I129S and blanked I797.
2. We stayed at a hotel Crystal Residency (booked via MakeMyTrip) which was right across the street from the consulate. So we had no taxi hassles. The staff at the hotel is english-speaking and very friendly. A very good option if you are planning to stay over in Chennai. You can check in any time and the check out time is 24 hrs after you check in, which is a great advantage. (Just to clarify, the hotel isn't paying me anything to say this. :) )
3. If you are taking a flight to Chennai, do not book SpiceJet or use goibibo for your booking. goibibo booked us on a cancelled flight and SpiceJet moved us to a much later flight which got horribly delayed. We ended up travelling the entire night.
My L1B blanket petition got rejected on 29th of Jan. I am filing for L1B individual premium now. I have query regarding information related to 'purpose of visit'.
Do I need to build my L1 individual documents by adding onto what I mentioned in earlier docs for L1B blanket application. Or can I start afresh.
I was wondering if it looks like contradicting myself If i mention different project for my L1 individual than what I mentioned earlier in my L1B blanket application. Client remains same though.
I am asking this is because I have been recently assigned new project which falls more into specialized category than what I mentioned earlier during my L1B blanket application. Duration would also change. Earlier it was 18 months as mentioned in DS160. I would like to go for 12 months this time.
So question remains: Does it sound like contradicting myself if I mention new project and new duration for my project in L1 individual documentation.
I have come across with a situation where by mistake my employer has withdrawn my approved L1B Petition. I am currently working here in USA and my Visa is expiring on FEB 23,2015. They found this issue when they were filing extension for me.
Now due to this issue they have put me on hold with no salary as I am not legal to work.
I have questions that am I authorized to work on I94, even though petition is withdrawn?
L1B denied second time due to same Blanket petition number
I applied second on 29th time for L1B blanket after a year from the same company.VO just asked 2 questions :
1)was your visa denied under L1B blanket ? I replied yes
2)is this the same petition ? I said no sir it should be different.
3)VO said no its same blanket petition and you cannot apply with same petition number again if it was denied earlier.Ask your HR to apply under different petition.its not your fault.its your company's fault.I am sorry.
and he gave me blue form with same remarks in others section.
has anyone faced same issue ?
is this a valid rejection reason ?
One of my friend got visa approved with same petition number in second attempt but in different company.
Thanks to the immihelp, the forum was very helpful for the preparation of the interview.
