L1A Approved
Hi All,

Just wanted to thank everyone for putting out detailed experiences. This has been extremely helpful !

My L1A was approved at Chennai.

The questions asked were almost same as listed by other users. Just to avoid redundancy, I am highlighting the ones I felt the officer was mainly concerned about -

1) Number of years with the employer - Mine was 13, and the long relationship seemed to work in my favour
2) US Package - YYYY X $ per annum , I also mentioned that this is just the base package plus bonus
3) Single client or multiple accounts - I emphasized that I would be working and managing teams across multiple accounts
4) For L2 - The officer asked my wife about her educational background, previous and current employers

Within a couple of minutes, the officer said that he is approving my visa, and a sigh of relief !

Good Luck to everyone and Thanks again !

Query --- Previous L1A denied and going for L1-B
My L1-A Individual visa petition denied 6 months back and now I am applying for L1-B Blanket. What would be the best answer if VO asks about the L1-A rejection

L1 B - Blanket Denied
My L1B and L2 visa rejected on 08/01/2015 in Chennai. OFC is simple as you see in other experience comments.
Interview was at 11:00 AM slot. Reach the venue before 15 minutes, do not carry any electronics items, mobiles, wallet and other stuffs.
Documents required. Passport, DS 160 confirmation page (validated form in OFC), 3 sets of I-129S and I79 first page (4+1 page stappled together). All other supporting documents , justification letter and all just you need to carry if VO asks then you need to show.
Interview : Greeted VO, but he did not respond, he was going through my petition in computer screen for a minutes. we were standing and waiting for his questions.
VO : Are you going to work in client place ?
Me : Yes. and said i will be managed by my company manager at client place, and who assign me project tasks and xxx compensates me.
VO : Who is your client?
Me : Answered.
VO : What you will be doing for client?
Me : Answered, i need to develop and implement new next generation PLM solution for client with my companies proprietary solutions and methodology.
VO : What is your special skills ?
Me : Explained him i am SME in my companies IT solutions tool set. I am expert in specific module which i have developed in this solution suit.
VO : Why your employer selected you for this project?
Me : Told him clearly that, i am expert in the specific module and need to develop and implement the same solution in client project. I have 3 years experience in customization, development and implementation in my company's solution.
VO : What is your salary in US?
Me : YYYY dollars per year.
While I answering he was typing something on computer continuously and did not even see my face. only once he saw and i was making eye contact. Do not know what happened. After a minute he pulled the blue slip and told me, US laws are very strict and i cannot approve your VISA talk to your HR and they need to apply in different category.
I was totally shocked, he handed over two sets of I-129S and my passports. I said Thanks and came out.
Conclusion : Visa interview is totally depends up on VO state of mind, though you have strong petition it is not mandatory that he should approve. I did not understand what they expect. most of the IT industries are solution providers and they need their employees to depute in client place only.
blue slip says . L1 blanket petition cannot be clearly approvable, you may reapply with approved individual petition.
I wish good luck to everyone who will attend L1B visa..... Be confident and try your best !!!!

L1B Visa Approved (Chennai)
Hey,

Heartily thanks to all the members of immihelp for sharing their experiences. It was really helpful in preparing and i was prepared for more than 30 questions based on the content of this website. Its a great resource for L1B visa applicants.

My OFC and Interview was scheduled on 6th Jan at 8.00 AM and 11:30 AM respectively. For OFC there was a big queue, while at the interview there was no queue at all and i was directly sent inside the building. After entering, i went through security checks, then a guy arranged my documents or i should say he removed everything except I-129s x3, I-797 x3 and my passport. He tied a rubber band around it and asked me to go to counter 14 where i submitted my DD.

He then asked me to go to the waiting area. I was waiting for my token number to flash on the screen. Its really difficult to kill the anxiety at that moment. I would suggest to have a glass of water before the interview. Water is available near counter 14 .(DD submission Counter)

After consuming water, I was about to sit on my chair in waiting area and the number flashed on the screen. The VO noticed me coming towards his counter and we both greeted each other from far ;) .

Below are the questions:-

Me : Good Morning Officer

Officer : Good Morning, How are you?, Which Visa you are applying for?
Me : I am Good. I am applying for L1b Visa.

Officer : Give me your documents. It’s a blanket petition?
me : yes. (Documents given, 3 copies + Passport)

Officer : How long you have been working for ZZZ?
me : Answered

Officer : Who is your client and where it is located?
me :Answered

officer : What is that you are going to do them?
me : Answered (Use some technical words, then explain those words in layman language for him to understand)

officer : Good, How many patents you have?
me : Answered (I mentioned my patents in my last answers so he asked this)

officer : How this is different and lies in specialized skills category?
me :Answered

Officer : What was your role before ZZZ?
me : Answered

Officer : How does this relates to a larger data set?
me : Properly Answered :)

Officer : Good, (after waiting for some time and looking in his system) Your Visa is Approved, please wait for 30 seconds.
me : Sure (controlled my happiness)

Officer : (Handed back stamped copies of the document). Give one to your HR and one is required at Port of entry. Enjoy your stay in California.
me : Thanks (We greeted New Year Wishes also.)

Though he didn't asked for any supporting docs, carry all in two transparent folders.

Also, Can somebody help me with the average salary details for California location (expecting salary figures for a 3 years exp) ?

thanks,
Abhi

Blanket L1, L2 - Visa Stamping in Paris
Hi,

thank you everyone who has posted interview questions on this site. I have read them all and with my wife, we were confident going to the embassy.
The interview was a little tougher than we though, stamping plus interviewing were 10 minutes. I was asked questions about my activities in home and host country, about my specialized skills, and about experience. My wife was asked if she wants to work in US, and what is she doing now.

3 days after that, we got visas sent to our home.

The only questions I have is: in the approved form I-797 it stands 2 years.
However, I got 5 years L1b visa duration in my passport, and my wife only 1 year.

I am very confused now, is that a mistake from the embassy, or it is just usual so?

Thanks,
rj

L1 and L2 visa Experiences
I had the best experience for L1A visa interview which I appeared on April 2013, in Chennai. I had reached there a day before.

I took the early appointment (like at 8.00 am) and stood their in the line (the worst part is they do not have any arrangements for seating outside the Consulate)

Once you are in, the time goes by so quickly and you are in front of the VO.

Please make sure to get 2 - 3 sets of the documents as they will want to review it. The person asking for the papers will not care to give to you properly. So be prepared to arrange it again... CALMLY!!!

I have been working for a Big Investment Firm since 4.8 yrs and had 2 promotions in India, so that latest profile that I was working under was as a Manager.

When you see the others getting rejected, please do not get tensed. I would rather suggest to ignore all those conversations and do something else.

Below are the questions that were asked:

VO : You are working for XYZ company?
Me : Yes

VO: Are you working as a Manager?
Me: Yes

VO: What is your role as a Manager?
Me: Was about to mention the long list of responsibilities that I have (but he cut me off after my 1st sentence only)

VO: What is your salary in India?
Me: XX

VO: What will be your Salary in US?
Me: XX

And then the golden words.. Your Visa is approved!!!!

My HR and the Visa documenting company always advised me that you have to answer as per your Visa applied. For Eg: if you apply for L1A - always focus on people management and your roles and responsibilities accordingly. However do not forget to focus (lil less) on the prod side of your responsibility.

If you are applying for L1B or H1 - make sure that you write and mention in ur interview, why are you the chosen to go to US (since you are specialized to do that)

My other colleague also applied for L1B in June and he too got through very easily.

The documentation should be very strong when you apply.

Hope all this helps for whoever will go through their next interview.

All the very best!!!

L1 and L2 visa Experiences
y husband got visa with college A and after coming to USA transferred to College B. I applied for L2(denied) and the reason for denial was that he did not have a job, as told by the interviewer(i assumed may be bcoz my husband changed collge). Then he transferred for another college which provides CPT and got a job but I was denied L2 second time on the basis that he changed colleges(this may be rite).

I applied for B2 for his convocation, but denied saying L2 was denied twice and so B2 cannot be granted.

Then applied for H4 when he got H1b stamped in India. H4 was granted this time but all the process took 4 years of wait.

Hope this gives hope to all the girls/boys whose L2 or B2 were rejected. Hope this gives strength for you to wait till the respective partners get the H1b and you will certainly get the H4.
