L1 A Blanket Approved
Hi all,
I had my L1 A blanket visa interview today and it got approved super fast.

Thanks a lot to this forum and to all the people who posted their experiences here.

A few pointers about my profile- MBA from IIM Bangalore with 7 and half years of experience in IT and consulting.

I was wearing blue blazer and my BEP company Id.

Me: good morning sir. wish you a very happy new year
vO: Thankyou and same to you

VO : Please pass on your baggage
Me: Gave passport along with 3 copies of 797 and I 129

VO: Started typing and looking at screen
Started stamping on one copy of i129 I was amused and waiting that he will ask some questions

VO: who is your client
Me: it's a internal business development role and is not related to any specific client. Bla bla

VO: started stamping more of my copies
Me: awaiting for more questions

VO : visa approved.
Me : Thankyou so much sir.

I will just give 2 to 3 important points which I found throughout this process of L1a blanket processing.

1.Give your full energy in making a strong managerial statement in making petition. This is very crucial.
Since even before you come to interview there is definitely some one or some team who had already judged your eligibility.
2. And If it comes out to be 50-50 then the VO will ask more questions to confirm whether your are really eligible for managerial visa.
In this case one has to be prepared with all the questions ( I prepared a list of 30 questions from this forum)
3.The last point is over all confidence, preparation and prayers. Nothing can beat this.

All the very best.

L1B Approved-Chennai
First of all I want to thank this website and all contributors who have shared their experience in this website. This website helps me a lot to prepare for my visa interview.
My interview was very short and easy one, please check the conversations:
Me: Good morning.
VO: Good morning, how are you?
Me: I am fine, thanks. How are you?
VO: I am good too.
VO: Which company do you work?
Me: XYZ.
VO: Which state are you going to visit in US?
Me: South Calorina.
VO: Will you also work in XYZ company in US too?
Me: Yes.
VO: Your petition looks approvable, let me check your other documents?
(After that she checks all my documents for some time, then she stamped all three copies of my I129S.)
VO: These three documents (I129S) are similar, we will keep one copies with us for your visa stamping and will give you two copies. One you need to submit to HR person of your company and other you need to show at the time of your travel to US.
Me: Thanks a lot.

L1B Approved - Chennai Consulate
First of all, this website really helped me a lot. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences.
Although it's a long one, but do read. Tips included that helped me win time and kept me confident.

OFC - 19th Dec Hyderabad
My VISA OFC was in hyderabad on 19th Dec. Easy line and simple process.
Carry the following in-order: (that's what i carried)
1) Appointment Letter
2) DS160-
make sure your address is the same as where you are going to have your interview. So my interview was in chennai and my address was written as chennai consulate. one of the guy had filled it as hyderabad for L1 visa interview and later on he changed it. The people who were checking the documents asked him to take another printout which had address as chennai. So make sure you carry both.
3) MRV fee receipt.

Visa Interview - 30th Dec, Chennai
My interview was scheduled at 10:30. I was having second thoughts about my morning flight getting delayed since we have issues with spice jet flights, I thought of heading to chennai a day before. Stayed in Oriental Inn(gave a complimentary drop to consulate) so you avoid the hassle of getting auto's and high prices.

Reached there at around 9:50. I saw a line which was kept for keeping your bags and stuff which is not allowed. Since i stayed in the hotel, I left all the unwanted things(mobile, electronic items etc. they don't even allow inhalers) and just had a transparent folder. Luckily, a guy told me to skip this line. This saved time.

During the entry, they will ask you for your passport and DS-160 Form. Make sure you don't have anything in your pocket's as they will ask you to leave the line and submit the same.
There will be another security check after that.
After this you will be asked for your passport to get your token number. Wait for your turn to submit your DD/Cash/Cheque.

IMPORTANT : The Visa Fraud fees is now INR 32000/- instead of INR 31000/-. Please check with your HR since the exchange rate is changed. I was asked to give extra 1000/- cash since I was carrying DD of INR 31000/-.

Document arrangement.
since you will get 3 copies of I-129S and I797. keep them in the order mentioned below and remove the rest and keep it as support documents. This will save time. VFS guys will help you out and will wrap it out in a rubber band.
Passport
DS-160
{I129S - 4 pages , I797 - First page} x 3

Wait for your TURN.

Questions asked :
VO: Which company do you work for?
Me: XYZ company

VO: And you will be working for which company ?
Me: I will be working for my parent company, which is the same. XYZ company.

VO: What's your location?
Me: [Answered]

VO: For how long?
Me: [Answered]

VO: And, what would be your salary ?
Me: [Answered]
tip: if you are under per-diem, do tell VO about you being payed under INR and payed as perdiem.

VO: What is your current INR salary ?
Me: Told

VO: Ok. Sir, what is your specialization?
Me: told
while answering, VO asked what kind of tools,
Me: told

VO: Sir, could you please tell me For how long you are going to stay?
Me: Told the same.

VO: looking at the screen and typing something. I was able to get a glimpse of what she was doing by looking at a keyboard( Do not look hear and there was the next thought came into my mind. but I was able to guess.) VO was trying to search if you really told the truth. Since the tools I told were proprietary.

VO: (after few pauses) Sir, What I am going to do is, I am going to approve your Visa. Please submit one copy to HR and show the other copy while entering USA. Enjoy your Stay. and handed me over the 2 copies of I129S and I797.
Me: Thankyou and have a Happy New Year.

Few things
Followed the trick of Keeping important documents in one and support documents in other.(Nice tip given by forum).
I read a lot about consulate being flooded with people and it's very crowded. It's actually TRUE.

Few things to remember.
You are specialized in something, Make sure you know what to answer and not just plain answers like (it's my experience),
You are different from others that's why company is sending you. you should be able to tell the same in the interview.
Prepare your answers. Don't just mug them up.
Follow what is written in your DS-160 and petition documents. Read each document once.
Have breakfast before your go. Dont panic. Even if you do, don't look around. Just clear your mind and focus why you are here.

All the Best.

L1b and L2 experience
Me and my wife completed OFC at 8.30 AM on 19th Dec. Consulate interview was at 11 AM. Both OFC and US consulate are near to each other
My hotel was 8 km from both. For OFC I booked taxi and he reached the place in 20 mins. So for Consulate interview I booked a cab through
OLA cab at 10.20 AM. The corrupt cab driver took the longest possible route , 15.5 KM and we reached consulate at 11.20 AM. We were pretty tensed and thought we have to come again for interview. But fortunatelly, we were allowed inside. Be careful with taxi drivers and check the route they would take.

Coming to interview, I was the last candidate at 12.10 . I got only 4 questions

1) Which company you work for?

2) How long with current employer?

3) Where will you work in US?

4) Whats your specialization?

For L2

1) How long have u been married ?

2) Highest qualification ?

3) Are you working currently?

Both interviews were over in less than 2 mins. I think luck plays a big part as also the conviction and answers to specialization

Thanks God and best of luck to all.

Guidance
1. The documents were sorted and kept in order by the staff and I was waiting for our token number to flash on the screen after fingerprint checking and payment of visa fee.
2. I kept my cell phone, official laptop, purse in cab, noted cab number, took phone number of driver and asked him to wait in street. It was a long queue, I just checked with guards & other folks for the queue for 10:30 interview and stood
3. OFC - Just take appointment letter confirmation, DS 160 confirmation and passport.
4. Courtyard Marriott is near to OFC office
5. While in line do not speak to fellow applicants in queue or even if you do then ensure it is not related to interview process, visa laws etc…it will panic you for no reason.
6. VO Interview - So first thing you do is get your documents in order which volunteers their will help you. Second thing you make the payment and finally you stand in the queue for interview.
7. VO Documents
a. 1.Get 3 copies of I -797, I-129 S
b. 2.See your bar code on cheque is working – I saw 2 folks rushing at last moment for this
c. 3.While standing in queue do not listen others interview just focus on your piece
8. I was asked to remove docs from sealed packets (they are not allowed). Had to go out and remove the packets.
9. We took a seat, lots and lot of people inside and kind of suffocating.
10. Documents
a. 1. Appointment Confirmation Form
b. 2. DS160
c. 3. Passport (Old & New)
d. 4. 3 Copies of I129S & I797
e. 5. 2 DD's
f. 6. Photo (Never asked)
g. 7. Copy & Original (Education & Experience document) Never Asked
11. VFS help team members to help you arrange the document as required.
12. There were already two queues, one for 8am and the other for 8.30am. They had put up time printout sheet at the gate, so check that.
13. My suggestion would be to just hire a cab for the day and be relieved. Because this auto thing really is a mental exhaustion.
14. My Suggestions will be goto consulates interview with valid credit card with valid ATM card in case of card will not work. The cash can be accepted if DD will not work.
15. I can say, all the staff members are very cooperative. Visa officer was very nice and he asked me come within one hour with cash and attend interview. So, please feel calm and confidence when you are in consulate interview room.
16. More than anything, it is confidence.
17. My company prepared the petition documents for me, paid the visa fee and scheduled the interview. Documents that I carried were: Passport, DS-160 confirmation, Appointment confirmation, Visa fee payment receipt, a DD of INR 31000 ($500), 3 copies of Form I-797 (Blanket Petition Approval notice), 3 copies of Form I-129S, Support Letter from Company, India and US Org Chart, Detailed Resume, Educational Certificates/mark sheets (Original and 1 Xerox copy each), last 3 months payslips, one 50mmx50mm colour photograph taken as per US Visa standard. I carried all these documents in two clear plastic folders - essential documents in one, supporting documents in the other.

TIPS
1. For the benefit of those who are yet to appear or tensed about their interview -- Please be confident, smiling and be sure of the category that you are applying in.
2. US VISA is not end of life….be calm, composed and relaxed. It’s not matter of life and death
3. Try wearing a blazer if you are applying for L1A…if nothing else you will feel more confident
4. Mug up your DS160 so well that if someone wakes you up in middle of night as well then you will give the details exactly as they are written in DS160
5. Save your DS160 before submitting it has an option to save and then submit later
6. Don’t listen to others while in interview room, don’t talk about visa while in line
7. Be 200% sure you will get the VISA…in all probabilities then you will
8. Go through last 10 experiences of your VISA category in this forum, prepare answers and practice it in front of mirror, friends, girlfriend, wife whosoever makes you least shy
9. Try to take hotel nearby …u will be much relaxed
10. Don’t carry cell phone, cd, USB, wallet... I mean no useless stuff to be carried…they charge Rs 150+ per item to keep it once you try to keep it post in line. Plus un-necessary hassle.
11. Less is more, so answer what has been asked. I saw lady who got rejected giving length details even when VO has asked next question and I agree with comment below, if you are relaxed and not too desperate it shows. I saw person in front of me was visibly nervous and hands were shaking while he spoke to VO.
12. 1. Don't discuss about Visa details with others
13. 2. Ensure all details mentioned in I129S & DS160 are same and you are completely aware of what is stated.
14. 3. Go through all possible interview questions, prepare answers as per category. I did several time mock ups in front of mirror.
15. 4. Don't rush to answer, understand the questions clearly ten answer. Getting tensed and fear will make you tremble while you answer, so be cool.
16. 5. Don’t carry Electronic items, mobile, USB, CD even Car keys with remote locking in it
17. Its seriously just preparation and super-duper confidence and of course genuine prayers.
18. Keep your required docs, check again and again. No harm in carrying support docs. (We had carried marriage certificate, child birth certificate, ceremonial photographs etc.)
19. Carry docs in a transparent see through folder with easy accessibility. Put tabs on documents as to what it is so that you are not flustered when the VO asks for any specific documents.
20. Go through this website thoroughly, it’s a treasure!
21. Prepare your questionnaire according to the visa you are applying for. Do a mock interview at home. Record it too, it helps.
22. Make your travel logistics as comfortable as possible, it helps and avoids any unwanted tension.
23. Confidence: Though you can generally feel confident if you prepare well, however, if you will actually work as a manager in USA that gives a level of confidence that no preparation can give. The VO checks for this confidence (they are trained to) during the entire 2-3 minutes of the interview. Hence it is crucial to have the confidence and let your body language show it off. Also crucial is to maintain eye contact with the VO since that is also another sign of confidence.
24. Crucial question number 1 - What is your job title and your roles/responsibilities: Everyone preparing for L1A knows the importance of this question and they really prepare for this. However, there are some subtle points that I would like to stress. First is the word project should always be in plural; meaning you will be handling multiple projects. Second is your should try to use keywords like portfolio management, risk management, metrics reporting etc. Third is that you should try to find one thing about your job that probably no one else will mention in this forum? For me, I mentioned about my role in Type B and Type C business growth (see questions above). Try to find something unique (in a managerial sense) about your position.
25. Crucial question number 2 - Who will you be reporting to: Often, we make the mistake of answering this in one/two words. It is important to remember that you only have 2/3 minutes to convince the VO - so make the most of it. Mention the job title of your supervisor ALONG WITH HIS ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES in 1 sentence. Also make sure that your supervisor is at such a level that makes you a manager of multiple projects. What I mean is if you say that your manager is an account manager, managing one account that makes you a project manager and hence ruins your chances. Think about it.
26. YOU prepare the inputs for the documents. The company will fill the petition and take the print, but you should be involved in every step of the way. Every comma that goes into the petition document or the support letter must first go through your scrutiny. This way you will be aware of the subject matter, and be ready to answer any questions.
27. Go through this forum thread, read about experiences, make a list of questions and prepare answers. DON’T write the answers, you’ll be tempted to mug them at the risk of sounding scripted. Just know the answers, and be spontaneous when answering. You surely have good communications skills or wouldn’t have made this far anyway.
28. Have a mock interview round with a colleague, family or friend. Listen to the feedback.
29. Clothes don’t matter. I was wearing formal shirt and pants, with my company badge around my neck. Be comfortable.
30. Don’t listen to the naysayers. Shut them out.
31. Have breakfast, please. If you have a headache (like I did) take a pill. Be fit and energetic, you’ll need it.
32. Don’t come too early or too late, the waiting will sap out the energy out of you. Being late will make you more nervous.
33. Be BOLD & CONFIDENT in whatever you answer without any tension.
34. Frame & say your answers/statements clearly & precisely without any hindrances.
35. Keep Eye Contact with your respective VO as VO look to your eyes closely when you answer for questions.
36. Get prepared to handle even the worst case scenarios & do the best. In simple, hard work of preparation pays you whether it is a simple or complex interview.
37. Have few mocks before going for the interview.
38. Eye to Eye contact with VO
39. Remain calm and confident and you will get it
40. As most of the folks on this forum might have said 1000+ times...confidence is THE KEY.
41. Do not use the word Project Manager. Project Managers (I am not going by designation but by role) "usually" manage only single project. If you are managing multiple projects you are Program Manager.
42. Be sure to mention Program Manager in DS 160 as well
43. Ensure that you have at least 4-5 employees reporting to you at onsite else your case may be difficult to go through if VO specifically digs in that area.
44. You should clearly know the role you are going to perform at onsite and how would that be different from what you are currently doing. This question can be re-framed as - "Purpose of Travel"
45. Ensure that you can explain your current role OR proposed role in proper way in case asked which will be asked alomst 98% of the time. I was in rest 2% :)
46. Please memorize your Org chart with direct/Indirect reports for both Offshore and Onsite.
47. One of the other aspect is not directly related but what happens is that many folks tend to memorize roles which is good but while presenting to VO it sounds as if someone just vomited the words back-to-back without thinking. Please ensure to frame and present your sentence in a way that it sounds that you have not memorized but actually thinking and saying it over there. I know folks who are actually Program Managers and performing all the roles needed for L1A but they tend to fail interview for the reasons I mentioned above. Please prepare and present in natural way.
48. Be to the point and this is one mantra that I can definitely say because if you try to say too many sentences VO will derive more questions from what you are stating.
49. Do your own visa documentation. Right from your roles/Responsibilities letter, Resume or any other documentation. DO IT YOURSELF and DO NOT COPY from others. If you are passionate about getting your visa, then you need to do it. This will help you to carry confidence all the way till visa interview.
50. Be honest, Always believe that you are eligible and WILL get the visa approved.
51. Do your mock interview sessions and be prepared with possible questions.
52. VO has 5 minutes of time to determine and judge whether you belong to Executive cadre, so have your most significant and appealing points first. Show that you have required authority and decision making power in the interview.
53. Importantly, do not bother overhearing / listening to other visa interviews at consulate. Do not make last minute changes to the answer script that you had in mind.
54. Your body language and confidence are very very important. Don't get tensed, always believe you will get your visa through.
55. Please don't go way earlier than your scheduled time. I think if you are present 30 mins or less before your schedule, its more than sufficient. Going early unnecessarily creates congestion and it could get difficult for everyone i.e. from the folks trying to keep things in order to ppl like us.
56. Please do not carry mobile phones. Figure out a way to offload before coming.
57. Keep the documents in order.
58. Dont panic or worry or get distracted by looking at others. I think it is important that one feels confident about ones skills. Keep calm and respond with short and precise answers. Many ppl open up as though it is a job interview!. This shouldn't be the case.
59. If the information in your DS-160, visa petition are genuine, then I don't think you need to worry at all. If the information furnished is true, then naturally we would be calm and confident to answer anything.
60. Be presentable, and keep your communication clear.
61. Make the eye-contact with VC and be confident.
62. Be very specific and clear about your specialized skill and try to emphasize on what makes you unique but at the same time be crisp and give your best shot.
63. Ask your family/friends to help you by conducting few rounds of mock interview and make sure you have heard all the questions at least once and prepare there answers well, although do not mug them up :-), so that you do not go short of words and don't fumble when you face the real interview.
64. Be very positive, always think you are eligible for the category you have applied for.
65. Questions asked should have answers that matches your provided documents.
66. Straight forward answers with confidence put more weight on approval side.
67. Lack of confidence is bad, at the same time over-confident is "really" bad.
68. Visa Approval is all about the VO's state of mind.
69. Don't get frustrated if VISA is not approved, its not an end of Life.
70. Seeing the unending long queue at Consulate, only one thought comes up, why USA ? Probably its a trend/dream for all IT/non-IT professionals :P
71. Do your own visa documentation. Right from your roles/Responsibilities letter, Resume or any other documentation. DO IT YOURSELF and DO NOT COPY from others. If you are passionate about getting your visa, then you need to do it. This will help you to carry confidence all the way till visa interview.
72. Be honest, Always believe that you are eligible and WILL get the visa approved.
73. Do your mock interview sessions and be prepared with possible questions.
74. VO has 5 minutes of time to determine and judge whether you belong to Executive cadre, so have your most significant and appealing points first. Show that you have required authority and decision making power in the interview.
75. Importantly, do not bother listening to others in the visa interview at consulate. Do not make last minute changes to the answer script that you had in mind.
76. Your body language and confidence are very very important. Don't get tensed, always believe you will get your visa through.
77. attire - suite with tie
78. If you are applying for L1A , you should be a functional manager like a department head or a supervisory manager , in my case, i am a divsion head having quite a number of total reportees.
79. your direct reportees (going to be at US), need to be on managerial designation like Project Manager, Project Leader etc...not a team member.
80. You should be knowing in and out of what you have mentioned in your I-129S.
81. If you have previously applied for any other visa, please be aware of those details.
82. Always give 1-2 liner answers to the questions.
83. Don’t be in a hurry to explain the details about your specialization.
84. Always use the simple and common words in your sentences while explaining your specialization. In my case , I used the terms reports, charts to explain the Business Intelligence solution.
85. Be confident. Body language does count and plays a vital role in such interview.
86. You need to be convinced yourself that you are eligible for L1A Blanket visa which is meant for higher managerial role. If you have performed the same in India, your answers will reflect the same.
87. Be truthful. Please remember that these VOs are taking such interviews for long time and they can easily understand when you are telling the truth and when you are not.
88. Be calm and composed during the whole interview process, right from beginning, when you have to stand in a queue outside consulate.
89. Do not get influenced by what is happening to the others. Don’t change your answers at the last moment just by listening to other candidates inside the consulate.
90. Do not ever deviate from the actual facts and whatever was documented in your I-129S form and DS-160 form.
91. don’t get stressed, be positive (Don’t talk to other L1 Applicants while in queue, because they will pass their stress to you, with hot humid weather it become drowning cocktail )

94. Be patient, as the wait times can be frustrating
95. While applying for L1A blanket, remember its executive position. So, do not mention a particular client name(unless asked and you can say will manage YYYY client to start off with) and most importantly never mention about a project. It will create an impression that you are a project manager
96. Always talk big like managing an account or a client and never a project
97. Also when mentioning about your reportees, just add a word at the end saying they all have their teams and manage their own projects in different portfolios
98. Make sure your Indian and US salaries reflect your executive positions
99. When asked about your roles and responsibilities, make sure you start with account management and talk about budgetting, contracts, proposals etc., and maybe at the end come down to project or program delivery.
100. Be sure to memorize your reportee details as well as people you report to all the way up to your CEO
101. Always mention you will work out of your parent companies office. You can mention that you will spend sometime at client location too, but would be present most of the time at the parent companies office
102. DS160 is the single most crucial document as that is the one visible to the VO and he would be browsing through it while asking questions. So, pls make sure you fill it with utmost care.

113. Be confident about you and your job.
114. Dress smartly and appropriate to the weather. Some folks come in overly dressed with suit, tie, etc...In Chennai summer and the given the 2 hr waiting outside the consulate, trust me, you will feel very tired and sweaty when you go in front of VO
115. Do go over some of the questions posted by others on this forum.
116. If you are qualified for the visa category, chances of rejection are very minimal
117. Maintain a conversation style with the VO and be relaxed. Don't get tensed. This is not rocket science.
118. Dont loose your confidence at anytime, be positive
119. 100% preperation required, read all the questions in the forum and prepare yourself
120. Ready the visa requirements correctly and prepare accordingly.
121. 1. Remember to smile always, do not come across as an arrogant or rude person cuz your nervous face without a smile can give away any vibe to the interviewer so switch your nervous face to a smiling face.
122. 2. For everyone who is attending the visa for the first time, make sure to notice the people who is moving before you and see how things work to get an idea about the security process so that you will feel confident and won't lose track of it.
123. 3. Trust me! Most people will be nervous even if they have everything ready but DO NOT show that on your face or in your conversation with the interviewer. Trembling voice or any weak body language can be very well spotted. Take a deep breathe every time you feel too nervous. Stay focused and be present in your interview
124. 4. If you think that looking at a sky or trees while waiting for the security check or a kid who is in the interview room or talking to someone who is sitting beside you can put you at ease. Just do it cuz you will better. Whatever works for you to be more relaxed? Just remember the last time, you were in an interview or in a distress situation and what helped to calm your nerves.
125. 5. DO NOT feel discouraged or demotivated if someone else got rejected who is in the same queue and think yours will be the same result cuz thats not how it works. These people are professionals and if you have the right intention, you don't have to be tensed. You need to stay positive and believe in yourself. Everyone has a different results coming their way and it all depends on your confidence and positivity.
126. 6. Preparation is the best and only option for success. Prepare, prepare and prepare. You need to show your dedication and deserve to get the place which is possible only when you are prepared and this will give you more confidence to answer aptly.
127. 7. If you think that you didn't answer a question up to the mark. Don't let that bog you down and spoil the rest of the show. You need to focus on answering the next question in a much better way. Try to have logical thinking and spot the opportunities to answer to your strength and plus points.
128. 8. Remember, interview lasts for few minutes and do not go with the body language of the interviewer. If you find him/her rude or a jovial person, it shouldn't be a matter to you. You be more focused on yours to turn on the impression mode. Having said that, don't come across as desperate. Just be confident but not over confident!
129. 9. Have a good sleep and make sure to take all the documents to avoid last minute stress.
130. 10. Finally, if you have the passion and genuine reason to get the Visa, it’s yours.
