Hey Guys,

Thank you very much for sharing your experiences and it really helped me in my interview. I applied for the Visa from UK and though the process is entirely different when compared with the process in India, your experienes gave a good overview of what can be expected.

My interview was a very simple one since I use to travel a lot. I had infact visited US in March 2010 with my B1 visa and hence my L1A interview was very simple. Consular did not ask any questions to my wife. Since she was already with me in UK on a dependent visa, they did not validate the genuinity of our marriage.

For everyone's benefit, I have consolidated all possible questions that can be asked and this might be helpful to anyone who is going to attend the interview.

1. Where are you working?
2. Where and when did you finish your graduation?
3. Who is the client?
4. How long you have been with this client?
5. What will you do in US?
6. Why is it that you have to go for this job?
7. What is the Indian salary?
8. What is the UK salary? (In my case since I was already in UK while attending the interview in London, this question was relevant)
9. What will be your salary in US / How much will be your salary in US / How much money you will get in US?
10. What are the qualities of a project manager?
11. Do you have authority to hire and fire?
12. Who is your onsite manager?
13. Who will you be reporting to?
14. Where will you be working in US?
15. Will the supervisor work in client office or TCS office?
16. How many people will be reporting to you?
17. Who is the best, average and poor subordinate who report to you?
18. What is the nature of the work / what are you going to do in US?
19. What are your day to day activities?
20. What the client is doing / What is the nature of client’s business?
21. How long you have been with this company?
22. What is your total experience?
23. What does your company do and how many employees are in US?
24. Have you ever been to US before? If yes, what was the purpose of your visit?
25. Do you know who will apply for L1A?
26. Do you know what happens on 4th July?
27. Where will you be staying in USA?
28. What is your role?
29. For how long would you be staying in US?

Following are some possible questions for the dependents

1. What is your qualification?
2. When did you get married / How long you have been married for?
3. How did you meet each other?
4. Are you planning to work in US?
5. Do you have kids?

Take care guys and all the very best.

Hi,

My experience is almost similar to other posts here.. So not replicating the same. However, 1 additional thing which I would like to point out is wrt the photo. For almost every one with a spectacle they were asking to take a new photo with out spectacle.

Largely they were friendly and there are people at every point to direct you to the right counter.

Regards,
Jeeth

My slot was at 11.45. Reach there before 11 and had to wait in the queue. (Reach there only 10 minutes before). Exactly at 11.45 i could get inside. Security checking and DD submission went fine. After sometime I was put in the queue to wait for my turn. I could see few approvals and rejections while waiting in the queue. By the time I reach the front, my mind was king of empty. Finally my turn came.

Me: Good morning Sir
VO: Good morning

VO: Can I please have your documents please...
Me: Sure Sir

Then he was verifying my documents and typing something

VO: Who is your client
Me: YYYY

VO: What you are going to do for them?
Me: I will be doing the migration of existing YYYY packages o YYY packages using the framework ZZZZ designed by my company.

VO: What special skill you required to do this task?
Me: It requires the good knowledge of SQL Server architecture,...

VO:(Stopping me in between) SQL Server is very common is it? What speciallised knowledge do you have to execute this?
Me: It requires not only the knowledge of SQL server, but also the framework and the package architecture.

VO: You designed this framework?
Me: No , it was already there.

VO: You have not designed it, then how you will have the enough knowledge in it.
Me: I was working on this for long time so I have enough knowledge on ti.

VO: How long you are working for this client?
Me: I just joined this project. But I was executing similar projects in the past. This is a new task and because of my experience thay have selected me.

VO: Which are all the other clients you have worked with?
Me: Said the names

VO: He is impressed with the names... Especailly the first name :)

Again typed something and then the seet words came
Sir, your Visa is approved. You will get your passport within 4 working days.

I had nothin else to say other than a 'Thanks a lot Sir'

The tip is be confident, convince them about your speciallized knowledge and the rest is your luck.

L1B Blanket Approved @ Chennai (30th April)
Hi Guys,

Now its my turn to post, after i have read all of my senior's posts @ Immihelp ;) . Thanks to all of them.

Here's how it went by.. I had scheduled interview at 9:45AM and as an Indian, i reached the venue too earlier. So, what i had to do is.. just stand in queue until you had your clock ticking..

Finally,i got in to the building at 9:45AM. Security checks.. Document verification.. DD submission everything went cool. I had to stay until they call me in to the VISA interview section in building 2.

My call came and below are the questions im asked for:
1. What would u do in the US?
For this, i was instructed that i start to tell the answer for every question i had prepared.. starting from my role, my specialization, why me, how many years, where in US etc. So, i started to say.. i was immediately put the next question.

2. Whats your specialization?
Ofcourse, this question would not have come if had listened to my full answer :). But again, one sentence he heard from me.. immediately put the 3rd question.

3. How many people were trained in your specialization?

Thats it.. he approved me :).

Verdict: Guys, prepare yourself for the interview.. The questions are all here. And the answers too. Probably the fact that i work for an American Major (both client n my company) would have saved my neck. But on the other side, i too impressed the VO by telling him what was the worth of my application in dollars at the start of my speech then extended to answer to his actual question.

Later, start your answer with keywords like frameworks etc, like what was suggested by our seniors at this site.

Prepare well.. and you have it

I would like to thank everyone for their experiences shared in this forum.

I had an appointment @ 10 AM. The interview was really cool. The VO only asked me two questions.

1) Why are you going to US?
2) Who is your client?

He was busy checking the papers and only asked these questions while doing that. It was over in a matter of max 2 mins.

L1 - B Approved
Hi,
I have 1 year 10 months of experience in my current company and a total 2 years 4 months experience. I have heard many saying the less than 2 years chances are less but Guys its all about confidence and how you present your self. I wore a tie and full formals - clean shaved.

I attended the interview on 30th April, 2010 - 11.45 PM. I was there 20 minutes before and was inside exactly at 11.45 PM. After finishing the formalities I went and stood in the L1 B line.

I was advised that the Lady asks more questions and hence you have more chance to prove your point. Luckily I went to the Lady Counter and here is wat happened.

Me: Good Afternoon, How are your?
Lady: I am Good, How are you?
Me: (Smiling) Fine, Thank you.
Lady: (Went through the documents) Which Client are you working for?
Me: ZZZ
Lady: What would you do in US
Me: I would be using my specialized skill in Datastage parallel Jobs to convert Symmetric Multi-Processing Cluster to Massively Parallel Processing Servers.
Lady: Is this wat you are doing here?
Me: No, I am involved in analysing and writing test cases for the functional requirement and thus validate the development into production.
Lady: So, how long have you been working in this - the parallel processing?
Me: I have been doing it for 1 year and 4 months now.
Lady: So you have been doing this for another project?
Me: Yes.
Lady: How many of them in your company have this specialization? Why only you?
Me: My team consists of 5 people. The client has interviewed me and as per my understanding from the client I possess the right skills for this role. Also I was involved in the design and development of my company's propritery software YYY which I also I would be using for the implementation.
Lady: (Started signing the document) Your Visa is approved and you would be getting your passport in a week.
Me: Thank you and have a good day.

Drank lots and lots of water :D
Happy as ever!
