L1 - B Visa Interview
Best Practices!
- Dont carry Wallets / Hard leather material/ Belts (should be flexible with simple bucckles ie. a formal belt), No digital watches, wear normal analogue, No chewing gums, eatable, waterbottles, bags.
Only a plain transparent carry bag like of any shop can work.
Use L-folder (Transparent)
Carry only Documents
Carry cash in pockets
Simple Pen should work
No Stapplers, Pins, GlueSticks or any stationary

Well the Formal dressing is better however people come in casuals as well. I would suggest Formal is more presentable.

Waiting Lounge: This is a good option for the candidates carrying backpacks or other handbags or so. You can avail lockers over there. Ofcourse this comes at a cost of Rs. 250/- Ideally if you dont want to stand in queue for a long time outside the consulate office, this lounge service provides a bus, to the actuall consulate office which is like 5 mins from the VFS office.
In the waiting area, there are representatives who guide you on what docs to be kept handy and ready and details about the time slot, L1 Blanket, H1, L1 individual, student and others.
Only advantage is you get your time to relax and are aware of the processes happening at the consultate office and these representatives guide you properly. You dont feel out of place.

Next you go near the Consulate office. Here you cna see lot of people standing on the footpaths on both the side. People standing in long queues waiting for there turn. However there is not much clarity about what time slot is under progress and if you standing back you can enquire with the people over there. Also there are representatives who walk and breif you about the time slot people, they seperate lines based on visa type. Specifically Blanket petitioners are standing in seperate line.

Key Points:
1. Keep your Passport, Interview letter, Demand Draft, Form 797, 129 - (2 copies of 129) ready.

2. Next a representative will handover a pink token which as a No. on it. He/She will collect the passport, form 797, 129(2copies), dd, from you.

3. Next wait till they send you inside the office. There is a security Check.

4.You will get a Wooden stick (like a token) keep it with you.

5. Go to counter for Finger print counter
Keep left hand 4 Fingers, Right hand 4 fingers and then both hand Thumb impressions.

6. take a seat and be alert for the Token No. announcement.

L1B-B Approved at Chennai on 1/12
Hi, I could not have thought of clearing the inter view without immihelp site. It was a real help. I had my inter view at Chennai Consulate on 1/12 at 1000 Hrs slot. After security check, document verification and DD payment I was directed to the other waiting lobby where there were lots of ppl waiting for their stamping. When I was queue, I could see 3-4 ppl getting blue slip/rejection and was tensed as ever however I did not show at all on my face or in my temperament. I was inter viewed by a friendly lady at one of the counters. Here is how my inter view went.

Me:Hi, Good morning..How are you?(With broad smile)...
VO: Good morning, I am fine.
Officer Going through documents...
VO: What will you do at onsite?
Me:I would be playing a role of test analyst whch includes typical tasks like requirement analysis, test execution and planning using my company proprietary tools.
(VO thinking deep for couple of minutes and going through documents curiously. My tension was mounting as ever.)
VO:Who is your client?
Me: YYYY which stands for YYYY YYYY YYYY
VO: How long you have been working on this project?(By the this time she has started signing the documents for approval)
Me:I am working for this client for last 3 years and 8 months
VO: You will receive your passport in 7 business working day.
Me: Thank you. Have a nice day.
VO: You too.

She did not anything about any tools/specialization.

Couple of inputs:
1. Be confident
2. Dont be panic due to rejection of other people.
3. The strip lounge at Chennai consulate is closed.

Please go through at least 5 pages of this wonderful website.

Thank you.

Hi all,
I thank everyone who shared about their Visa experience. It was very useful to me. Every one who is going for Visa interview should definitely go through this website once.

Date : 11th Jan 2010
Time : 8.00 hrs
Venue : US Consulate, Chennai

The following were the questions asked by the VO.

Me : Good Morning!
VO : Good morning!
VO : How long you work in YYYY Company?
Me : xxx years
VO : So you are going to work in US?
Me : Yes
VO : Who is the Client?
Me : YYY Company
VO : How long you work for the Client?
Me : xxx years
VO : What YYY Company is doing?
Me : Explained about my Client company.
VO : What is YYYY company doing for YYY Company?
Me : Explained about the product.
VO : What you are going to do in US?
Me : Explained about my responsiblities there.

That's it.... VO was entering something in the PC. And finally VO returned two copies of the petition to me. VO told me that you would get your passport in a week's time.

VO : Have a nice day!!!!!!!
Me : Thank you very much.

From my experience, you should answer only to the question what he asks for. Unnecessarliy dont tell about your specialized knowledge, tools etc.,..

Only thing that you should have is "Confidence" and "Answer only to the question"

I want to thank everyone here who shared their experiences. It is really worthy and compelled me to come and share my experience as well for those who will apply in future.

I will like to stress on these few points again.
1. Dress Simple and formal (prefer light shirt and dark trouser with a tie)
2. Always keep a smile, it can make you win even if something goes wrong. Do wish the VO with good morning/ afternoon
3. For those having disability in hearing, be open to share it with the VO. they are very helpful and considering
5. you may ask where is point 4? Be confident with the believe that whatever you are answering is the right thing and nothing is going wrong

Ok, here how it went.
I first submitted the documents at the counter 1. I wished him good Morning and handed him all the documents. No folder, no envelope. He asked me a few questions like if i am going alone, etc. He then said something in very low voice and the guard announced move to counter 2 (which was for someone else) and I moved to counter 2. this unpleased him. I said him sorry and told him about my hearing problem (i showed him my hearing aids). This was the right thing. Dont do anything profusely. I acted like its normal.I was then asked to sit.
After 30 minutes, I was called to counter 6 for the final interview. A very pleasant guy in formal attire was there.
Me : Good Morning
VO : A very good morning with a big smile
hen he asked me following questions:
1. what is your experience?
2. Who is your client?
3. Are you going alone?
4. Are you married?
5. What you did last time when you went to US? (i had previously been there on B1, so it was for business metting and KT)
6. What is your role in the project?

then came the final words
VO: Your VISA is approved. You will get it by post. Welcome to US.
Me: thank you. Have a nice day.
I then collected the I-129S forms and left.

All the best to every aspirant.

L1B interview
Hi friends,

I felt this site is awesome to share experieces. I have seen all the questions asked by VO to me in this site.

let me share my experience first. i have attended L1B interview on July 2008. My applicaion got rejected as i was not able to establish confidence. the reason what he told me is under 221(G) it got disapproved. More over i have only 1 year of IT experience at that time.

At that time, i dont have any idea about the questions what they are going to ask me and all.

The happiest news is again i got a chance for applyig L1B now.I may appear for PA in next month, so please anyone of you share your experience of this kind and please let me know if there is any negative impact as i have already disqualified for the first time and the expected questions.

Now i am having an experience of around 3 years and iam from CSE background.I have attached my email ID also.

Hi,

First of all thanks to everyone who had posted there experience over here. It helped me a great deal in securing my L1 B. I dont have much to add than the one already present here.

My advise be confident in front of the VO, I know its easier said than done with the bundle of nerve you would be carrying but remember you will only have 5 mins to impress the VO and you have to be confident during this period with a broad smile. Another important thing is you should be smartly dressed. A tie wont do you any harm, if you have one make use of it.

PLease find the details of the interaction with the VO at the interview:

VO: How long have you been working with your company?
Me: 2 yrs 11 months
VO: You can say 3yrs now
Me: Yeah i would be completing 3yrs on the 8th of next month (Answered it with a broad smile)
VO: who is your client
Me: ABC
VO: What is the clients business
Me: Explained the business
VO: What is your Role
Me: Explained my Role

At this point I was starting to get a little tense and the next question completely florred me

VO: How this application is going to benefit the client
Me: some blah blah (I absolutely have no clue what I replied to this, my mind was completely blank and I just responded looking directly into the VO's eyes and I could sense my voice was a bit shaky but somehow I manged to keep my confident posture)
VO: Please keep your index finger on the scanner
Me: I did a big blunder instead of putting the index finger I put my Thumb on the scanner
VO: Your Index Finger Please
Me: Ooops Sorry (Again with a big smile)
VO: What is your Specialization
Me: XYZ

Then came the golden words

VO: Your Visa is Approved. Welcome to the united States (handed back my 2 sets of the case papers)
Me: Thank you very much. You have a wonderful new year.
VO: Thanks. You too.

All the best for your interview and remember to be relaxed.

Thanks,
Sam

Hi Friends,

I visited this site to know about past experiences of others before I went myself for the interview. I found this site very usefull.

Let me provide my Experience.I went for my Visa Stamping at Kolkata US Consulate.

1. Waited at the security for sometime till they called us to stand in a Que according to Interview Timing.
2.Went into the main building where the interview will be conducted.Remember donot carry cell phones and memory cards.
2.There are 7 windows present, out of which window 1 & 2 are for document submission while 3 & 4 for Finger impression scan( during my intv date only the counter 3 was open) Rest 5 & 6 & 7 are for Interview with the VO.

After the priliminary rounds of document submission and finger scan, I kept waiting when my name will be announced for the interview.

I was called first at Counter 7, then for some reason the VO asked to come to Counter 6 and he too switched the Seat.

Then we went through my Passport and also the forms.
Suddenly he asked me what's my total experience and how long am I working in the present company.
I answered acordingly.
Then he kept silent and started filling
something in PC.Later he asked me the client I am going to work for.
I answered accordingly.
Then after scanning through the papers of mine, came the golden words. YOUR VISA IS APPROVED.

I was really happy to hear that since I heard there were many rejections happening during this time of the year.

My advise to others is,
The VO will notice your moves when you walk into the counter and will have a midset immediatly whether he will approve or disapprove you,if you have a smiling and a confident face, no matter how tough questions he asks you I feel he will approve you. Always look confident, never fumble in your speech, try not to speak fast as its not the place to show vocabulary and accent.Be slow and look directly in his eyes and always be confident. Try not to cook an answer but give realistic and honest answers as he is more clever then you are and that's the reason he is a VO and we are standing opposite for his approval.

Best of Luck to others.

Regards
Saikat
