Aadhaar Number - Permnent ID number for India

1. Aadhaar No or card is not a proof of Indian citizenship. Its just a Unique no like US social Security no.

An individual of any age(even kids or infants) can apply for Aadhaar number. A child of age less than 3 years does not require giving biometric information and in this case Aadhaar will be linked to the parents or guardian of that child. However, that child needs to give his/her biometric information when he/she is of 5 years in age. For a child who has enrolled for Aadhaar and is of the age of 5 to 15 years has to give his/her biometric information again when his/her age becomes 15 years. This process of re-registering is necessary because the biometrics of a person changes with age. The biometrics of a person will be different when he is a child and when he will be an adult.

2. Not Only Indian citizens. Anybody who are residing in india can apply for Aadhaar no i.e even citizens/nationals of any foreign country,OCIs or PIOs who are presently residing in India,can apply for aadhaar no.

3. Aadhaar no can be applied anywhere in India, irrespective of your native place or state.

You can go to any authorized Aadhaar enrollment center anywhere in India with your identity and address proof.Aadhaar enrolment centres accept 18 PoI (Proof of Identity) and 33 PoA (Proof of Address) documents.

4. There is no fee for applying aadhaar no. Its completely free.

5. Though they wont tell you, Once enrolled, scan the enrollment receipt in ur email id. It is required, for life long. Enrollment receipt is required even after you got the Aadhaar no or card, to Download e Aadhaar card or digital Aadhaar card from UIDAI website. .
