NEW OCI CAR5D AT HOUSTON
I plan to apply now for OCI and requesting fellow bloggers to share their experience whether the copies of documents including copies of passport and naturalization certificate are to be Black/White or color ones. Also I understand that only Affidavit for Copies in lieu of originals and copy of naturalization certificate requires to be notarized. Is this correct?

I will appreciate your early feedback very much

Prepare yourself - for pain
I just finished, or rather, spent 4 hrs online trying to finish the OCI application. This unsucessful attempt is attributable to the horrible OCI Gov of India website.
1. Absolutely terrible error messages
2. Image uploads do not work, error message is completely unhelpful
3. The generated "application" number is referenced as "temporary application", "file number" "application number" randomly throughout the site
4. When you want to recall your saved application, the form asks for your passport number AND this "appliactiont/file number" - guess what, the field for entering the application number does not even take ALL the characters generated in the email they send you to confirm your registration.

Let me know if you've made it across this obstacle or for that matter ANY OCI submission COMPLETELY without having to make a single phone call to anyone.

Smooth process
From the time of application to receipt of OCI card it took me 50 days. I downloaded the FAQ and sample application and collected all needed documents before I started my application online. I completed the application at CKGS and Indian government web site on a weekend without a break. This was to avoid issues some had in their inability to connect the two accounts. The only time consuming part of the application was to use "paint" application to resize my photo and signature. I have two country citizenship. The government application form is not designed to accommodate that. The form did not give me an opportunity to enter my citizenship prior to the US one and the default previous country was India. The form thus did not give me an opportunity to ask me to upload my born in India birth certificate. Anyway, I included that information in the uploaded file and also mentioned my Indian bonafide. I had a deemed renunciation certificate so I did not have to send in my Indian passport. I gave up my Indian citizenship a few decades back and I do not have my Indian passport. Happy to get a life time OCI card. Can anyone with an OCI card please tell me i can now enter Indian immigration queue for Indian citizens or would I need to go through the foreigner's line?

New OCI Card at Houston Mission
I and my wife plan to apply for new OCI card at Houston mission after getting naturalized in last week . We plan to go to India at the earliest possible date and therefore seeking help from fellow trackers regarding following points;

1. it seems that the Houston mission is processing the OCI card applications in about a month or so. Is that right?. We don't want to take any risk and will also apply for Visa if this is not the case.

2. As i understand, the US passport is required to be submitted only at the time of submitting the application and not again at the time of receiving the OCI card. Is that right? If this is the case, can we apply and leave US and somebody from our family can collect it when it is delivered to our address

3. Which documents are required to be submitted in color/ B/W and also notarized or just copies. The experience from fellow trackers will be very useful because I have heard that the application gets rejected even for such minor things.

Thanks a lot in advance. I would appreciate your response/help very much.

Birth certificate "apostille"???
Did you all go to a USA government office to get the birth certificate "apostille"? Or did you just send the birth certificate with the stamp that you usually get with birth certificates when they are first created (in the US).

I would appreciate this information. It would save me some time to driving more than 1 hour and paying $20+ to get it apostille.

This is my second time applying for the OCI. First time my application was rejected due to name difference and birth certificate image not being uploaded to Indian website. They send it right back without time for applicant to correct. They sent a note stating why it was rejected back in the $30 Fedex envelope. But who knows if its is all that a person misses or if it is all the mistakes. I lost at least $75 in that transaction due to Fedex fees, service, convenient(inconvenient) fee. I dont want to mess up a second time and have them site some other useless "technicality". Who knows what CKGS/Indian Consulate will pull out of there butt?

OCI IN LIEU OF PIO.
All Pio card holders require to obtain loci before Sept. 30 2018.
My minor son got PIO in 2014 due to real prevailing at that time "MINORS WERE NOT ISSUED OCI BUT ONLY PIO".thus we were forced to apply for PIO even we wanted OCI. Now for conversion even though PIO is valid for 15 year and my son is 8 years minors, .CKGS is asking to pay fee of US4 124. Why ? it is absurd. Hon'ble P M Narendra Modi specifically said in his speech of New York that all PIO will be treated as OCI. Then why now consulate is insisting for converting PIO to OCI and that is also with exorbitant fee ? On contacting CKGS they direct us to contact consulate and link they are giving e mail address is totally wrong and our efforts of sending e mails to officers of consulate returns with "E MAIL DOES NOT EXIST'. Why Ckgs is misguiding us.Totally irresponsible
Please can anyone inform me how to contact Indian consulate and represent my case.I will be thankful.
