Filed over processing time investigation inquiry 02/05/2018

I filed my case in Chicago and had my interview in the Chicago office. However, during the summer of 2017 I moved to New Orleans due to my job relocation. I kept my Chicago address as mailing address as not to defer the processing time. Right after I passed the interview, I was told that the Chicago office was not able to give me an oath ceremony because I was no longer living there, and they will forward my case to the New Orleans office.

I waited three months and still had not received any letter, so I used the "Ask Emma" feature to live chat with one representative on 02/05/2017. I was told that my case will be investigated since it was out of normal processing time. On 02/09/2017 I received a letter from USCIS said that my inquiry has been resolved as "the case is in line for oath ceremony". Well it is not resolved!! I know my case is in line, it has been in line for freaking 4 months!!

I used the "Ask Emma" again to live chat with another representative and was told they could not do anything at this time. So I tried to contact the New Orleans office and left a message but nobody follow up.

This has been very frustrating, and I don't know what else I can do to expedite my case.

Interview 3 March 2018

the 3rd March, on a cold windy and snowy Saturday morning, I left home with my daughter who drove me to JFK Building at Sudbury St, Boston, for the interview at 815 AM. I was called in promptly. The officer did my biometrics and then he said that I had not been physically present for the required number of days and as he had no discretion to waive the shortfall, he would not approve my application. He said he could take my test and interview and deny or I could withdraw the application and file again when I met the physical presence condition. I thought it was best for me to withdraw my application.
All the evidence of medical condition etc for shortfall was not considered nor were the facts that I am 78 years old, I had continued to maintain residence, my wife is a US national and all my family is in this country.

What a shame to make someone wait for more than a year from the date of finger printing and then inform that the application is deficient.

I am heart broken and hence took time to share my experience. Thank you everyone for your support.

Going forward I need advice on whether I should reapply on the 5 year or 3 year platform. I will soon meet physical presence requirements for both platforms.

Finally done with this process after over 15 months

PT 11/27/2016
Finger print 12/2016
Inline for interview 01/2017
Interview scheduled 12/2017
Interview 01/23/2018
Oath scheduled 02/20/2018
Oath done 03/07/2018
Now getting my paper work to apply for passport and I’m planning a trip in a month.

The officer who led the oath ceremony yesterday mentioned that they do 4 ceremonies per week in Irving.
Each will have around 100 people and that’s why the wait time in getting longer. They basically have more demand than what they can process.

Stay patient and good luck to everybody.
