Passport as proof of citizenship?
Hi everyone,

I am about to start my N-400 citizenship application process after being a permanent resident for 3 years through marriage to a US citizen. My spouse wasn't born in the US; he was naturalized about 7 years ago. The problem is, he lost his naturalization certificate, so we can't submit it with the N-400. Would it be sufficient to submit copies of his passport pages instead, or do we absolutely need to apply for a naturalization certificate replacement for him first?

Thanks in advance!

N400 interview at Philadelphia Office
Hi guys,

Here is my N400 timeline. It may help you to compare with your applications.

10/30/2020 submitted
8/31/2021 interview day ( I studied all the civic questions and the officer, she was super nice to me. I passed it successfully )
9/20/2021 oath ceremony ( checks my online account and it was written there )

Hopefully I am almost at the end of my journey in 20 days ( based on a marriage status ) It had taken 4 years and 6 months from the beginning of my first green card application in USA.
Wish you good luck and patience in your applications. I may suggest you to stop counting down the days cause otherwise it is stressful. I did it like that and relieved.

700 $ for expedited passport! Is it worthed?
I plan to apply for my passport for the first time in LA.

On the website said "Expedite service (for an additional $60) can take up to 12 weeks from the day an application is submitted to the day a new passport is received. The 12-week timeframe includes 6 weeks for processing and 5 to 6 weeks for mailing times on the front and back end."

But I need it much faster (like 2-3 weeks). I called some companies and they offered 15-10 days time fram with 700-800 $ for their companies' fee. Is the process that complicated and really worth for this amount of money?

Also, is there anyway that I can apply by myself and get my passport in 2-3 weeks.
Please share your experience.

MANY Thanks for your help

Are there certain offices do it same day and others scheduling it for later times? Can somebody please share their experience/knowledge with Chicago office so that we can prepare?

N-400 interview Albany, NY
Hey you guys!
After having stalked this site for the past two years it’s finally my turn to talk about my experience so far, I live 1hr away from NYC but for some reason my “local” field office is over 2hrs away in Albany and I couldn’t find any info about Albany here, but I still found great general information and I thank you all :)

Interview-
My interview was set to 12:45 so I entered the building at 12:30, showed the appointment letter to an officer who x-rayed my purse and watch, went thru a metal detector and gave my letter to a lady who checked me in, and asked me to take a seat. There was six of us. Every time someone got called in I noticed they would get out in about 20min so I thought ok it can’t be that bad…I continued to wait, and wait, 3 people who came after me got called in before me and I really started to worry if there was a reason why they were leaving me for last.
Finally at 2.10 I got called in by a lady officer, I was expecting an intimidating-looking uniform but she had like a nice summer dress with a sweater, we speed-walked to her office, there was a plexiglass between us, we wore masks the whole time and there was an iPad on my side, she had me swear to tell the truth, asked for my passport, GC and DL. Not a single paper came out of my folder, all those copies I made lol.
She quickly verified my personal info that was on my application, my daughter’s name, when my height came out I said I must be shrinking bc my recent physical showed that I was 1” shorter than what’s on my DL and she told me a funny story about her son who’s 6’3” and we laughed.
She had me sign on the iPad verifying the name change I requested and made three copies, the printer was not cooperating.
She informed me I was exempted from taking the reading and writing tests bc I’m 55, so I said there’s some benefits about getting older after all, and she said oh no! you don’t look it at all, that’s why I had to verify your date of birth twice! We laughed and she completely put me at ease. She said let’s do the civics.

Questions:
When do we celebrate Independence Day?
Who is the Commander in Chief of the military?
What is the supreme law of the land?
What is one right from the First Amendment?
What is the rule of law?
What are two rights in the Declaration of Independence?

Then quickly asked all the no/yes questions after saying if I didn’t understand her to ask her to repeat herself. Lastly she asked if I was willing to take the full Oath of Allegiance and I answered yes I am, heck yeah!! She said I like that answer!
Then I signed three times on the iPad for the corrections about my height, occupation and name change.

She said I passed the civics and that she didn’t see anything wrong, that in about a month I would receive a letter informing me of the decision, do you have any questions? I asked so that letter will be for the Oath? She said it’ll be for the decision if it’s approved or denied, but I don’t see any problem so I Am anticipating that everything will be fine, if my computer cooperates I could continue to review your case. She walked me out and I thank her for seeing me.
It all lasted 20min with the last 5min of her writing in her computer.
I didn’t know how to feel, I had planned to stop at some areas for sightseeing but now all I wanted to do was rush home to check on my status like I see some people here do, and 2hrs later when I got home THERE IT WAS!! Oath ceremony will be schedule!

Now I just have to wait for the letter and oath ceremony, meanwhile my GC will expire in a couple of weeks and I don’t know how to prove my legal status if anything should happen while waiting for that letter or ceremony, I forgot to ask her about that :( I did pay to renew it back in March bc I didn’t know how long this process would take, but it’s been stuck on it’s taking longer than expected since April… fingers crossed that letter won’t get delayed or lost :(
