H1B visa approved in Toronto on 1/10, no tracking
Hi, I did my H1B visa interview on Jan 9h at Toronto Embassy. It is my 7th visa stamping. The process went smooth and I was only asked for the company name, how long I worked for the company, salary and if I have ever worked in any other country. I was told visa is approved and I should receive a tracking in 3 three days. The visa status showed 'issued' since the 10th, but I have not received any tracking number. I am wondering if anyone had similar experiences or if anyone did interview on Jan 9th have already received a tracking or passport. Thanks a lot!

A Vancouver story
Hello all,

I had an interview today (January 14, 2019) at 9:45am. I finished my DS-160 in mid December and gotten today's date in Jan first week. It was a very smooth operating consulate. The line was fairly long to get in and get the security checked done. You submit your phone before you enter the building. You wait in line and climb the stairs to second floor. Where there is security check TSA style but you get to wear shoes through this one. Again there is a line to get your documents checked before the finger print station. After you get finger prints done a security personnel escorts group of 5-6 to 20th floor. There again is a line. there were probably 4 windows open and they will call you one by one for the interview.

My interview lasted around 1 minute (it was my first H1-B stamping. I was transferred from F1 to H1). The questions were:

1. Job Title
2. Name of company i work for
3. Location i work at
4. Highest level of education
5. Field of education

Was told i should have passport within 3-4 days.

It was the smoothest governmental process i have been through.

Experience in Calgary
Hi All,

Sorry for late post as I was out of country and not connected to internet.

I was looking for appointment date on last week of December, 2018 or 1st week of January,2019. But there was no date available till March/April anywhere in Canada. I got helpful tips from the forum that there is one question in your appointment profile where they ask " Are you applying from outside the Canada?". Initially i had answered it as "Yes" but after getting info from the forum I changed my answer to "NO" and I show early available dates and after continuously checking I got appointment on 2nd January, 2019 at Calgary.

I had an appointment at 9.40 am. I reached there by 9.30 am. At entrance they asked if we have anything in pocket like gum, lipstick or anything. They allow locker only for wallet/phone/keys. There is print/Stationary shop at the corner of the building where they rent locker for $5 in case you do not have any other option.

After getting in, there was a desk where lady checked DS-160 confirmation page, passport and photo. She also asked for proof of status in Canada. I showed my visitor visa stamp. After that there was security checking and after that they brought us to the 10th floor for interview process.

At 1st window, lady checked our documents (passport, photo and I-797). She was very specific about photo. In case you require different photo, there is print/stationary shop at corner for urgent passport photo.

At 2nd window, guy took our finger prints

At 3rd window (interview), Guy asked the following questions,

1. Job title
2. Your specialty (Job Profile)
3. Salary
4. Your higher level of education
5. question to my wife: your higher level of education

Visa approved and provided a information page for passport tracking. This whole process took about 30-40 minutes.

I had interview on Wednesday, I got email regarding passport tracking number on Thursday afternoon. I kept following the link from email to check the status and my passport was ready for pick up on Friday morning around 10.30 am.

It was very smooth and quick process.

Medical examination
Hi all,

I am trying to book an appointment for my H4 stamping in Toronto. Indian passport holder, residing in US and traveling to Canada for H4 stamping. I was looking at the document checklist on the site where you book appointments and it states "medical exam" is required. Is this true? Is a medical exam required for H visa type stampings done in Canada?

H1-B Stamping in Ottawa on Jan 11, 2019
Hi All,

My appointment was at 9.00 AM on Jan 11, 2019.

Everything went smooth and I was out by 10.25 AM. The entire staff at the US Consulate was very cordial.

Keep your passport, I-797, one photo (if the upload photo was not as per the standard), DS-160 confirmation page, instructions page handy as you will asked for it at all the previous steps before heading to the interview window.

As soon as you are let in by the security personnel, you will asked for all the above documents. After the first review, you will asked to go inside where you will wait in the line for your next review of documents (at this window or the next finger printing window, you would given a Your rights as a employee in US booklet) and then finger printing at a different window. Now you will join the line for the interview.

Questions asked -

1. Is it a H1-B renewal or new H1-B visa?
2. How many years already on H1-B visa?
3. Is your I-140 approved?
4. Name of the employer?
5. What your job title?
6. Your salary?
7. Single or married?
8. Do you have any kids?
9. Highest level of education?
10. Do you have any questions regarding the booklet?

I was told that it can take 3-5 business days before you can pick up the passport from the post office.

Anybody already received any communication regarding passport from Jan 11, 2019 or Jan 10, 2019 visa appointment date?

Photo facility at Ottawa consulate ?
If they don't like the photo we provide, is there facility at Ottawa consulate to take the photo ?

I remember seeing this somewhere - that you can pay a price and get the photo taken inside the Consulate. But do not remember if it was at the Ottawa consulate or somewhere else.

Thanks

H1 stamping in Canada
Hi,

Need some help on H1 stamping in Canada.

I changed my employers last year, and got a new I797 from my new employer. The H1 visa (from my previous employer) stamped on my passport expired in July last year.

I have a valid I-94 (until 2020). Can I still go to Canada for H1 stamping?

Thanks!

H1B Visa Stamping in Ottawa as a TCN
Hi All.

Needed a H1B stamping. Made an appointment in Ottawa for Jan 8th at 9:30am. Appointment went smooth; was in there for 2 hours total. Only negative is that there are no seats in this embassy!
Received email today saying that documents were in transit and expected delivery is tomorrow. If I can get documents back tomorrow that will be an awesome turnaround.

Ottawa is a fun town too!

Canada Visa Stamping
Hello guys, had a question to those who visit Canada for visa stamping. Isn't there a risk involved where in:
1. your visa might be denied
2. the processing might take longer than expected, due to which you will be stranded in Canada and won't be able to return to the US until you get your passport

I assume this is a calculated risk you guys are willing to take, though what are your backup plans if any of the above happen? Please share. Thank you.
