Primary Occupation for B2 Visa
Hi - I would appreciate if someone can please guide me on one of the doubts that I have while filling in DS160 (Primary Occupation) for my father. He is a retired businessman, however now earns a rental income (taxable) from property. I am confused, if I should choose 'Retired' or 'Others' under this category. Is retired being used only for service personal here ? and 'Others' for all others ? I believe this is an important component for the visa officer to determine a decision, therefore doesn't want to mess up with the application. Please help.

Regards,
Gurpreet

Chances of getting B1 tourist visa?
Hello,

I will be applying for a tourist visa to visit my brother who lives in the states. I am a 27 year old single female, currently working so I will be having an approved leave form from my employer. My salary is quite low ~$4,000 pa, therefore my dad, who has his own business, will be sponsoring my trip: Will him sponsoring for all the expenses affect the chances of me getting a tourist visa?

I will be visiting for only 2 weeks. I currently live with my dad in Kenya. I used to study in Australia, after which I worked there for 2 years. As far as previous travel countries are concerned, I have traveled to India a year ago, and several times before and have also visited Thailand.

Please advise whether I have a good chance of getting a tourist visa, if not then what I could do to improve my chances. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you :)

I had gone through many posts in this website, practiced the answers questions which seemed relevant in my case. On the day of interview I dressed in a suit and looked like the businessman, as I am.
I believe honesty and confidence is the key.
I got my Passport on the 8th day with 10 year visa.

B1/B2 visa
After all this you just feel how ridiculous it is that how one genuinely just wants to spend time with their loved ones and have a vacation in one of most beautiful countries on the planet but is denied the privilege to have an experience of a lifetime.

B1/B2 visa
This is the experience that I had in the month of November at Delhi Embassy. I am 27 years old with a permanent government job with 2 years of work ex in private sector, 2 in Public sector bank and finally made a switch to government job. I was dressed in formals with probably favourite combination of americans i.e. Grey business jacket, Light Blue shirt and navy blue trousers. This is how the experience went
V.O: Hi,
Me: Hi, obviously with a smile
V.O Why, when and where you want to go to US?
Me: For Tourism, New Jersey and in the month of June.
V.O:Which all places you would like to visit?
Me: New York,Atlantic City and California
V.O:Do you have any relatives there?
Me My sister and Brother in Law
V.O What do they do ?
Me My sister is a Doctor and My Brother in Law is a Sr. Financial Analyst at XYZ(MNC)
V.O How much do they earn?
Me. Answered Accordingly
V.O What do you do?
Me. Permanent Government Employee
VO What is the nature of your job?
Me. Answered Accordingly
V.O What is your qualification?
Me. Post Gradution in Economics
V.O How Long will you stay there ?
Me. 45 days to this she gave a rebuttal
V.O 45 days?
Me yes
V.O Have you ever travelled abroad?
ME.No
Now all this while she was typing simultaneously I was pretty confident that i’ll get through with the it until she dropped the bomb uttering these words “I am sorry, You are not issued visa this time but you may try again” and handed over section 214/b refusal. Now, for all those who say it is the sheer confidence, honesty etc etc that gets you through I doubt that. I had all the possible docs you name it I had it to back up my case ITR,Bank Statements, Service/employment letter from government with clear joining and retirement age, affidavit of support but still I was refused. Now the question arises how can one prove his ties when he has a govt job with all the benefits, own house and old parents to take care of. There were people who were fumbling, thinking taking pauses before answering and unconfident but still they got through. Now I did everything right under the sky all my answers were in line with DS 160 but the outcome was negative. I was confident, straight forward, rock steady, fluent clear and precise while giving answers but still it didn’t go my way. It is altogether a different ball game inside. God, alone knows what permutation & combination they are looking for or are they simply making money by exploiting people of developing nations by asking them to spend time and again on their visa application. For those of you who say it is better to visit south east countries before applying to US, why should onespend unnecessarily on a place you don’t even a wish to go and why not apply to the place which is beautiful and where you have relatives to get along? Though I was going there to spend my hard earned money anyway it is their loss. Still I would like to know what went really long in my case cause to this day I am completely clueless. Any help or suggestion is appreciated.
