In-Laws got 6 months Visa At Chennai in first attempt
The interview was on september 9th 2003.
We took appointment for interview in English.
We sent all the papers listed in this site and also sent them all the interview questions with answers to them. At the consulate, They first checked all the papers sent by us. Then they went for the interview. The following were the questions:
Why my in-laws are going to US?
What's my FIL doing in India?
What's his salary?
Who is in India?
How many kids? Where are they now?
From how long is your son-in-law staying in US?
To which place are u going in US?
Is your son-in-law a green card holder?

Then the interviwer said "sir, we are granting u a 6 months visa" .
It seems the lady who interviewed them rejected 5 visas ahead of them. So, they were a little worried how the interview will go. But it went well by God's Grace. and also the day before interview we called them and asked them all the possible questions over the phone.
I would say the main thing we told them was, Answer to the question precisely, briefly and Don't give too much Unnecessary information.
and make your point in 1 or 2 sentences.
Also, my in-laws asked visa for only 4 months in the Form NOT 6 months.
Thanks to this site which helped us prepare the documents. I am posting this here so that it will be helpful to others.

My mom got visitors visa through Chennai yesterday. I took the the appointment for her in English since there was no dates available for local language. But when she went to the consulate, they asked her if she wants to be interviewed in local language or English, and she was interviewed in the local language

Mother got visitor visa
I recently invited my mother to US. I sent 2 letters, one addressed to the Consulate detailing the reason for her visit, intended places of visit, her travel plans and that I will bear all her travel related and medical expenses. The second letter was an invitation to visit us here and was addressed to my mother. It included most of the details in the first letter and had a few personal notes included.

You should explicitly state that you are going to provide support. You also need to fill out an Affidavit of Support I-134 and get it notarized.

I have used this twice successfully to get visas for my mother. First time was in 1999, this time in March 2003 when she got a multiple entry 10 year visa from Chennai, India. Both times she was authorized 6 months stay.

As an added note, my mother bought her ticket in India and the return ticket was an OPEN one, no return dates. She had no problems whatsoever at port of entry.

Don't forget to include copies of your green card (front and back), employment letter, pay stubs, bank accounts, passport (ALL PAGES!), etc.

Parents got Visa in Chennai
Hello All,
My mother had a visitor visa appointment on Aug 20 in Chennai. My father is 61 so didnot take appointment for him(that proved to be wrong). The interviewer advised her to take both appontments together. The inetrview was fairly easy.
She was asked how many children she had, what is the income/pension,what is the purpose of Dubai visit (my sister lives there). She did learn from one other parents that last time their visa got rejected because they told about pregnancy. This time they got approved.
I was a bit worried about this and it got approved easily. So if all the docs are present(they didnot even check it properly) the visa will be issued. We as yet dont know for how many months. They have taken the passport and have promised to courier it.

Thanks All

Hi All,

My dad got visitor visa for 2 years and to my surprise my mom got the visa for 10 years (although she is just 53 years old. My dad being 60 years). They got the visa from chennai office and this would be their second visit here in states. I really dont understand why my dad only got the visa for just 2 years. I am thinking maybe its coz in my employment letter, my employer had mentioned that I am going to be on the project for only 2 years. I am a green card holder here but that doesnt seems to make any difference. I wanted to share this exp with everybody so that they dont do this blunder in their employement letter.
Thanks to all of you who have shared their wonderful experiences here in this website. Sure, this site helped me in preparing the documents.

Thanks to all.

parents tax returns
Hi All,

Today my parents went to chennai consulate for interview, after asking few general questions they wanted to see my father's tax returns. As my father is a farmer he never filed tax returns and he said he doesn't need to file taxes as his income is less than 1 lakh.. then they asked for some PRN number (i guess its like tax id).

My father couldn't able to give those two things and my parents visa got rejected under 214(b). Could u please let me know what shold we do in this kind of situation. Is there any body's visa rejected for the above said reason and got the visa later?

Please Help!!

Thanks,
Bhanu

my friends parents who applied in bombay got the visa the second time. they are in mid-50s. they carried all the standard document both the times but got refused the first time without looking much at the documents. second time, they also carried a letter from the senator which made the visa officer to review the application in detail and gave 3 monts visa(after many questions). Letter from the senator is no guarantee or can't replace any document or can't fix any problem/situation. Letter from the senator ONLY makes the visa officer review the documents more carefully. The letter had my parents passport number and a request to "review the application". It DID NOT make any recommendation to issue the visa.
