12/30/2016: attended the VISA interview ( L1A for myself and L2 for my wife). The VO took about 5 minute and asked couple of basic questions. He spent most of the time time looking at screen, typing. He reached out to another guy and went through our documents couple of times.
At the end of interview he handed over a pink slip with Administrative Processing checked.

Consular officer asked whether my Master's degree from the US was in Immunology/Virology (my answer was yes) and immediately handed me the 221(G) white slip requesting the Invitation letters, resume, publications, research, position, funding, travel history and contact info in a word document format. No other supporting documents were asked for.
I have been through similar administrative processing for my prior F1 visa stamping (took 6 weeks for approval) and H4 visa stamping (took 4 weeks for approval) respectively. I'm working on an H4-EAD now so this is a very annoying process because of the unpredictable approval times. Luckily my employer is ok with the delay so lets see how long it takes this time for approval.

Had a very typical interview. Officer said everything was ok but they need to do additional checks and gave me a yellow 221G slip. She requested for my masters description and resume. I told her I pursued coursework. She asked me to provide a description. Sent over documents the very next day.
