214b Denial on 12th January
Hello All.

I own a private limited company which deals in building websites and selling them. A US based company is interested in buying one of my websites and for that they sent me an invite to be in US for 1 week for negotiations and finalizing the deal.

Here's my interview - 12/01/2016

Me: Good Morning.
VO : Good Morning. Please give me your passport ( I passed it )

VO: Why do you want to travel to US
Me: There's a company in US which is buying our website and we need to meet in person to finalize the deal
VO: Why do you want your wife with you?
Me: Because we both are equal partners, we both need to be present for quick decision and legal formalities.
VO : Have you travelled anywhere else outside India?
Me: We travelled to Dubai last year?
VO: Any where else?
Me: No. Nowhere else
VO: So are you selling your business?
Me: Yes we are selling our website. They have sent us an invitation letter and are taking care of our expenses as well.

VO: Sorry, I can't approve you at this time.

----

I had all the papers but he didn't look at any. I am assuming the last question got me where he misunderstood that I am selling my ENTIRE business. I am just selling one of the sites my company owns and this is the nature of my work. Making and selling websites.

---

I have re applied and date is 28th January...

I need some help on how to clear it this time and what to say and what not to say?

What affect does my previous rejection will have because it is so recent.

B1 Visa Application
I have one suggestion.

When you go for interview, I really suggest that do not answer any question instantly or immediately after the question is asked.

Do not make any hurry you **must** take 3-4 seconds and then answer it by understanding the question properly.

Also i am sure you will not be able to hear the question properly so if you are not able to understand it or you have understood it partially,
Do not answer it, ask again for the question kindly.

Wear formals for best look as you are applying for business Visa.
I was tensed a lot and nervous but did not show it on my face.
Have a simple smile and answer straight and confident.

P.S : Please carry a passport photo as per requirements, almost it is not required. But in rareset of the rare scenarios they might ask you for the photograph because of the technical issues they have.

B1 VISA experience to attend a conference
Hi Everyone,

I attended the VISA interview in Chennai consulate. The purpose of visit was to attend a reputed conference and present my paper there. I am a research scholar from one of the premier institutes in India.

The first day was, as usual, for fingerprinting. My appointment was at 8:30am. I had reached the venue around 7:30am. I was little early. I suggest that you can reach 30 minutes prior to your appointment time.
I was let in through a well managed line around 8:10. The process was over within 10 minutes and I was out by 8:30! This is a very streamlined and simple procedure and no need to worry about it. You can also carry your mobile phone. It must be switched off, that's all.

The interview was on the next day at 8:30am. I reached around 7:45am. I was immediately placed in the line. It was moving pretty slowly. First, one of the officers will just check your passport and fingerprints. Mostly to verify if you are the same person who gave the biometrics!

Then slowly, you'll be sent to a consular officer. It was a middle-aged lady. The interview went as follows.

Q) Hi, passport please.
I gave my passport.

Q) Is this your first US VISA application?
A) Yes ma'am.

Q) Ok, so you are a research scholar in XYZ field? What is XYZ?
A) I explained very briefly about my research area.

Q) What's the purpose of your visit?
A) I'm going to present my paper at the conference ABC.

Q) Do you have some information/document about this conference?
A) Yes ma'am, I have the invitation letter from the conference organizers.

She took the letter, glanced over it.

Q) So what is the topic of your paper? Can you explain it to me?
A) I told her again a summary of the paper in 2-3 sentences, she was just concentrating on some key words.

Q) Who's funding your conference trip?
A) My institute (it's better to mention only one major source if you have multiple funding agencies. Also, carry a document showing the funding details, if available)

Finally she told, "Ok sir, your VISA is approved, all the best for your presentation!". I told "thanks" and that was it!
So basically, she took my passport and saw my invitation letter. That's all. Didn't check any other documents.
