This is especiallly for Mechanical Engineering graduates.

Don't worry that you are a non-computer science graduate.

Quetion asked by the Officer.
1.Who s your client?
xxxx
2.What will you do for your client xxxxx?
Replied. And don't say the word 'testing' anywhere. Say analysis, Design, Development, Implementation.

Mechanical Engineering
5.How long you are working for?
3 years. He asked me the qn when i said Mechanical Engineering as my specialization.

Hi all,

First of all thanks to this forum and all those who post their experiences here. It is of a great help and a great confidence booster.
As such not much questions were asked ( might be it was my lucky day, also my paperwork was good.. Proper paperwork certainly provides a good impression )
Me: Good morning
VO: Good morning ( I handed over the file prepared by the officers initially)
VO started typing something on the screen
VO: whats your highest qualification?
Me: **** **** **
VO: What will be your designation?
Me: **** **** **
VO: (to my wife) How long have u been married?
**** ****

then came the golden words. We were releived.

The key here as everyone says is to remain confident and answer looking into the eyes of the officer.

Other observations :
-For H4 you need to carry your marriage album. Make sure that the album is not of box type(with number locks). It wont be allowed. Better take separate pics.
-Carry some cash along woth you as they might ask you to get a new pic done inside consulate if the officer thinks that your pic is not atleast 6 months old.
-Please dont carry unnecessary photocopies. Read the guidance sheet, it properly mentions what all documents are required. Dont waste paper.
-Sleep and eat well ( its just another interview and not the end of it)

Visa Interview in Chennai
Hi Everyone,
I had my H1 interview in Chennai on Feb 8th. It went on very well. Thanks to all you guys who have posted their experiences. The same questions repeated and I was able to answer them confidently. It went on like this.
Initially after giving the token outside, you will be directed inside the consulate. After first round of thorough checking, you will be sent inside a second door. There, once your token number is called, you will be directed to the respective window, where the finger impressions of both the right and left hand will be taken. Post that they will request you to wait till your number comes. They were guiding the L1 Blanket guys to other building. After waiting for around 45 mins,I got my turn. The interview went on like this:

VO: GM
Me: GM
VO: WHo is your client in US
Me: YYYY X
VO: What is your designation over there?
Me: YYYY X
VO: What is your Highest education qualification?
Me: YYYY X
VO:What is your total experience?
Me: YYYY yrs

Then came the wonderful words "You will receive your visa in one weeks time"
Me Thank you.

Guys, as already shared by many, the golden rule is... Just relax...dont get tensed.

All the best to all of you.

H1B, H4 approved after L1B rejection
Hi
We had our H1B, H4 visa interviews at Mumbai Consulate on Jan 10, 2011. We were really tensed as our L1B, Blanket was rejected in Oct, 2010. But thanks to this site which helped us in preparing for interview qns.

this time, the interview was simple and just took 3-4 min. Foll. were the qns asked to me:
VO: You had come last time also. Which visa catagory you had applied for then?
VO: Why was your L1B rejected?
Me: told what was mentioned in my petition
VO:What will you do in US
VO: Who is your client?
VO: Can you show me any document where cleint name is mentioned?

Then he asked my wife:
How long you are married?
Do you have kids

thats it. Then he told us that our visa is approved and we will get it in 4-5 working days..

All the best

H1B visa approved @ Chennai US Consulate
Hi Everyone... I had my PA on Feb 4th at 7.30AM... As soon as i entered consulate building i was asked to move to screening booth for documents verifications. Once the documents were verified and found to be correct, they took my finger prints(Remember to carry doctor certificate if you have any cut on any of ur fingers. If the finger prints were not clear due to a cut, they might ask for a doctor certificate). After taking finger prints i was asked to wait in same building for my interview call and was given a phamplet reg the US labour conditions and facilities to go through before i attend interview.

After 15 mins there comes much awaited interview call(Mine was the first interview on that day) and here it goes :
Me: Good Morning
VO: Good Morning. Who is your client.?
Me: XYZ
VO: How much will you be paid in US.?
Me: $ xx,xxx
VO: What is your highest degree.?
Me: Answered.
VO: Where will you be working in US?
Me: Answered(city, State.)
VO: Whats will be your role and responsibilities?
Me: Answered.
VO: ok, Your VISA is approved and you will receive your passport in weeks time.
Me: Thank you.

The interview dint even last for a min. Be cool confident. Maintain eye contact while answering. Do not chit chat with others while standing in queue or while waiting for your call. Dont be nervous.. even if you are dont show it out.. Be confident you can do it. Good luck...!!!

Thanks,
Prabhu

Thanks for the wonderful forum.

It really gives me good guidance and mental strength.

My interview was scheduled on 7th Feb, 2011 @7:45 am. I reached the US consulate well ahead by 6:30

I waited there for 20 more minutes to get my call

Initially the following docs are verified at first door
1. Appointment letter
2. Confirmation page
A Token was issued at that counter.
Then physical security check then i was routed to

Next comes the VO interview.
Be smart and with the gentle smile, i approached to him

Conversation
VO: Good Morning

VO: (he was looking for some token # since that person is not available i was asked to go to the counter) then he asked
VO: How long u be with ABC company
Me: 4.5 Years
VO: who is ur client?
Me: YYYY YYYY
VO: Which is work location?
Me: XX
VO: Whats ur salary over there?
