Query about H4 stamping for my 7-month old kid
Hello all,

I have a query regarding H4 stamping for my 7-month old kid.
I got my H1 stamped on June 20th 2018 and I'm travelling to the US in 3 weeks, so in the meanwhile I wanted to get H4 stamped for my baby.

But when I checked the dates, they are available only in Aug and I will not be in India at that time.

So my question is:

1. Will the Drop box also have appointment process as consulate interview?
2. Can I send all the documents for drop box with the baby's grand parents? Or is it compulsory that the Parent has to go for the baby's drop box?

Please clarify my doubts.

Thanks and appreciate your help.

H1 Interview Exp at chennai consulate - July

This forum has helped me, time to share my experience.

My slot was at 9 am, went at 7:30, already there was a long line, 7:30/7:45 batches were lined up at that time. It took about 30 minutes for my slot to be called, following which they check the passport for the sticker given during OFC, following which a new line is at front of the consulate, where they checkin your application.

Note: no keys/phones allowed. Backpacks are allowed though.

Once in, there is a security check inside (similar to airport), apparently there was a CD in one of the documents - I had to come out and put in the trash bin. Afterwards I was let in, there is a queue inside which leads to the consulate building, after a 5 minute wait few of us were called in to the next building.

Inside, there is another queue - where they checkin your passport and then ask you to go a different counter where they check your fingerprints ( behind the window, while a VAC official helps you).
Once we are done here, then we are in the final line for the visa interview - it was a 15 minute wait.

Below are the questions asked for me ( I work as a FTE, 12 years in US):
- No documents were asked, when i was about to take my I-797 out, they said not required
- Confirmed name of petitioner
- Location where I work
- Annual salary
- Highest level of education
- If I have read my rights online
- Visa issued

When you are in the line, you will have enough time to get an idea of the questions that will be asked.

Good luck to all.

F1 > H1B Interview at Hyderabad
Wanted to share my experience so far.

Interview date: June 21 at Hyderabad Consulate

Background:
Currently working in a startup company and on Level 2. Graduated from xxx where I did not take CPT except for the second semester. In 2016, when my H1 application was picked, I was not on CPT or OPT but still had my last semester. Graduated in May 2016 and then transferred my SEVIS to yyy Uni as I wanted to continue and complete my education. This time took CPT from June end and started to work at the company that sponsored my H1. Got my H1 after couple of RFEs in November. Later transferred to a startup company that I'm currently worked for as a FTE.

 Questions:
1. What university did you graduate from?
xxx university with Ms in Computers and Information Systems

2. Is zzz the company that you are currently working for?
Yes

3. Work location is the same as the client locations?
This is an FTE position and working in NYC

4. Oh so in NY State and NYC?
Yes

5. What is the current salary?
Answered

6. What is the degree that you graduated from?
MS Computers and Information Systems.

VO: Did you notice that I have first asked about the university? And where did you graduate from? When I opened up your application, the system raised an issue related to the F1 to H1B transfer that happened while in USA. I have requested for this to be resolved and expect it to be so in a week. I'm going to hold on to your passport and I do not need documents from you.

No slip or nothing. Case currently on June 26 is Admin Processing.

Any similar experiences?

First H1B Stamping in Ottawa
I had my interview today in Ottawa. Below is my experience.

I reached embassy at 8:40 AM though my appointment was at 9:15 AM. They didn't allow me in until it was 9:00 AM. So no point of going early.

At the main entrance a lady officer checked DS-160 and appointment and allowed me in. Another officer asked me to provide passport, DS-160 and photo. After seeing my DS-160 she asked me for my I-797 and she checked my Canada visa on my passport.
Later went through the security check to counters 6,7 where fingerprints will be collected.

And then entered to the interview line. Unfortunately, there was only one window open for interview with a male officer. I waited for 20 minutes to get my turn.

VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning sir. How are you ?

VO: I am good. You work for YYYY ?
Me: Yes sir.

VO: Do you have any letter from your employer ?
Me: Gave the employer letter.

VO: Gone through the letter. Do you have pay slips ?
Me: Gave pay slips for last 6 months.

VO: You salary is YYYY (after seeing my employer letter)
Me: Yes

VO: What do you do for your employer ?
Me: I am working as a YYYY for my client YYYY for building an application YYYY that is used for ZZZ. My duties include ZZZ.(He was looking into my eyes and listening carefully)

VO: How long are you working for your employer ?
Me: Since August 2018.

VO: You are working at client's onsite location ?
Me: Yes. (Didn't ask client letter..but I had it)

VO: Laughs 2018 ?
Me: Sorry. August 2014 (laughs)

VO: You were on F1 visa previously ?
Me: Yes

VO: What did you study ?
Me: Master's in computer science

VO: Did you do any research or is it course based ?
Me: It's a course based. (The same question was asked to another H1B guy and he said course based with project and VO asked about the project)

VO: He was typing something on his PC for sometime by looking at my employer letter. He was going through my employer's address on the letter.

And then finally he said My visa was approved and can collect in 3-5 business days.
Straight away the status changed to Administrative Processing after the interview.

Everything went smooth and be confident in what you are answering. Don't forget to bring the basic required documents to interview. I saw a lady was sent back as she forgot to bring her photo and asked to get it by 11 AM where her appointment was at 9 AM.

Hope my experience help you guys. Good luck...

H-1B interview in London
Hi all,

I flew to London to get my first H-1B visa stamp. Though I am not a UK citizen but from an asian country, the interview was very smooth.

Background:
I attended graduate school in the US and worked on OPT for a couple years then adjust the status to H-1B inside US.

Questions asked:
(a) What's your highest degree? What's your thesis about? What do you do now?
(b) Do you receive government funding? Do you receive xxx funding?
(c) Are you applying for green card? (I am not but since H-1 allow dual intent, answering yes should be fine)

Document required:
current and previous passports, DS-160 and I-797 approval notice.

Document prepared but VO did not ask for:
resume, pay slip, work verification letter, previous I-20s, I-129 package

Timeline:
5/25: Fill online form and make appointment
6/6: Interview dates
VO said that he did not see any problem but need to verify some SEVIS information as it's incomplete. After the interview the status was "administrative processing"
6/8: Case updated
6/12: Issued
6/13: Passport picked up.

The US Embassy in London was built in 2017 and has a good design. It's very spacious and you can find a seat and play with your cellphone. The queue is not long. So overall it's great experience. I'll consider renewing H-1B visa in London again in the future.
