Hi,

H1-B visa interviews are generally simple and short. I had mine today morning in Chennai and it lasted for hardly 30-40 seconds, he asked me 4-5 questions, majority of the time he was typing something on his system.

Here it goes -

VO :Hello there
Me: Hello

VO: Have you been to the US before?
Me: No, this is the first time that I'll be going.

VO: What will be your position there ?
Me: Programmer (this is mentioned in one of the petition docs, I797 i think)

VO: Where are you going in the USA?
Me: ABC in ZZZ

VO: Who is your client?
Me: XYZ

VO: What is your highest qualification?
Me: Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Telecommunications.

VO: <showing me the white labor right pamplet> Did you go through this?
Me: Yes, I had a quick read through while standing in the queue
(My employer had already given me that, so I knew what was in that, if saying "yes" be ready to say one-two points from them... someone here was asked that )

Critical thing is proving the Employer-Employee relationship for H1-B, reporting manager questions are asked for verifying it. Also be prepared with roles/responsibilities answer.

Hi folks,

Now it's my turn to share the visa experience....

Harldly the VO taken interview less than a minute .

It looks like the visa interview be very easy for the ppl denied their L1 B visas last year.

Me: Good morning
VO: Good morning

VO: am the person denied your L1B visa last year
Me : Yes officer

VO: Who is your client?
Me : xxx-xxx

VO: highest degree
Me : Bachelor of Technology in computer science

VO: where did you get it from ?
Me : told my University name where am graduated

VO : visa is issue you will get your passport in 7 days

That's it .......attended the interview in HYD consulate on Sep 27 th

I was scheduled today (25-09-2012)for the interview at 9:00 A.M but due to some technical problem there was a delay in the processing

VO asked few questions as below and also mine is BEP and also got a rejection of H1b in 2005

ANS YYYY (while iwas explaning he had a look into his system and stopped saying perfect

Here’s my experience ..

June 1, 2012 - Filed in Regular Mode at California Service Center.
June 26, 2012 - Upgraded to Premium Processing
July 09, 2012 - Received RFE
Aug 01, 2012 - Responded to RFE
Aug 14, 2012 - Received Approval
Sep 25, 2012 - Visa approved at Chennai Consulate for Both H1 as well as H4.

Interview Questions :
H1 : Hi, Good morning, How are you doing ?
VO : I am doing great, thank you. How’re you ?
H1: I am doing good. Thank you.

VO : So where are you going in USA ?
H1 : City,State

VO : How long you’ve been working for this employer ?
H1 : It’s a new employer

VO : Who is the client ?
H1 : Answered

VO : Will you be working at client side ?
H1: Yes

VO : So what will you be doing there ?
H1 : Explained roles and responsibilties in 2 lines.

VO turned to Spouse :

VO : So how long you’ve been married, mam ?
H4 : Answered .

After some time …
VO : Ok Your visas have been approved.
Gave white pamphlet to read .
H1 : Thank you so much. Have a good one .
VO : You too !!

I have been following Imminhelp from past 1 month when my petition was filled,and absolutely I am benfited from Imminhelp since one question specific I got from the Immenhelp and was asked thrice in the interview and that is the only question he asked me and approved, So I am lucky.

And second thing Kolkata Exp , There are less number of posts here so I will explain how it goes in Kolkata.

I will be explaining the diff bw Chennai and kolkata consulates as i have visited Chennai once for B1 and it got approved.

I sent docs to Employer on Aug 10th and he filled my petition on Aug 17th after doing Eductaion Evalution under PP.

I got approved on Aug21st.

My Employer in India received I 797 on 6th Sep.

Since I am in Vacation fom 7th-14th, So I filled my DS 160 on 16th Sep. Interview was sceduled on 24 Sep Monday .

My Interview was on Monday 24th Morning 8 AM.

I hired a taxi from Salt Lake city to Hin Chin min for Kolkata Consulate.I reached there by 6:45 AM.

To my suprise like in Chennai no one was there outside. In Kolkata no worries as it is small street and u can get every thing near to it and if it is raining no issues they have shelter for it in the queue too.

I am the 5th member in the queue.

I was sent inside by 6:50 to my suprise.

In kolkata u can deposit ur mobiles and bags in securty person where he will give keys for drawer to deposit every thing so not like in Chennai where u have to throw them outside with no security.Security will give the token number mine is X.

After security Check U r sent to one open area where structure looks like DHABA HUT and u will be seated there. It is like Open theater.

There some 3 beches are there where they will call according to ur Token number for arranging docs. All Indains only.They are very helpful.

It is just 10 min and by 7 clock All my docs verification is done.

After that they asked to go into a small room

To My suprise it is just 400 Sq ft room where Ur Biometric and Interview will done in that room. In Chennai oohh god it is like a big Buildings.

5 Counters are for taking Biometric Finger prints 2 counters for Interview. Interview counters are seperated by small wooden peice.

10-15chairs for sitting and some books are there for reading.

I am called to take Biometric Finger prints and completed by 7:05 and Immedialtly one lady guided me for the Interview to the next counter,

In Kolkata there are young people who are helping like any thing.

Since My Token is X and there are couple of Families before me so by total i am 4th person for Interview.

Infornt of Me On H1B who was asked for 2 min and got Approved, When I have given Finger prints and went to Interviwer he is waiting for me.

Interview.

Me : Hello sir GM
VO : GM, H R U

ME : I am Fine
VO: Pass ur Docs

ME : I Passed them,
VO : He taken out the Photo,HDFC recipts, I797 Bunch,LCA,I129,BEP letter and others and given to me. He Kept PP and DS 160.

VO : Typing in the Computer and scanned my DS160,Since it is not scanned he typed and He taken My receipt number an also typed it.In the mean time he asked have you been in US before.
ME : I told yes.

VO : Why
ME : Told for KT purpose.

VO: Highest Qualification
ME : B-Tech in EEE.

VO : How is ur client
ME : I am joining SAP Practice,So it is In house project No client.

VO : How many days u r before in US
Me : 58 Days

VO : So u have done good work there.
ME : I have not went to work, Only to get KT ( Here he is probing that I am abusing the early Visa , If i say I went for Work or he sense that i worked trhere that it i am gone , So is said I went for Buisness purpose only).

VO : U have Denmark and Swiss Visa.. Why have u not travelled.(They are still valid)
ME : I said I have No work there and project are desolved,So Since no work if i travel it will be Visa Abuse so I stayed back.(I saw he is happy that I will not abuse Visa).

VO : Married
ME : Yes

VO : ur wife not travelling with you.
Me : NO

VO : Why, He said don't say standered Answers with smile.
ME : She is in her Final semister of exams so she will join latter.

VO : Golden words .. I am approving ur visa.
Me : Thanks.

He has not cancelled my earlier B1 Visa too.i came out by 7:10AM outside. Funny that my interview is at 8 and I came out by 7:15.

Don't worry H1B are rarely rejected.

   First of all thanks to ImmiHelp for having this Forum.

   Mine is a different case where i've B1 and i was in US for 4 months and applied for H1B.

   I went to consulate at 7 am and was interviewed by VO at 8:45 or so.

   simple questions like my role,about the project and salary and finally he asked what i did for 4 months wit B1 in US.

    I said i was in a training for 4 months.But while attending the b1 visa interview i told them that i'm going for 2 weeks.

    This caused me a problem and he is not satisfied with the answer i gave and told me that my H1B docs are perfect but he is having conserns with my B1 and asked me to wait for another interview with another VO.
    
     Waited for 2 hours and got a call from a VO and he verified all my docs including my educations,experience,Form 16,pay slips.and asked about the previous travel again. this interview went for 20 min.

    Finally he asked me wait for one more interview.

    After another 2 hours of waiting i got a call from VO again and then golden words that my VISA is approved.

    Guys What i want to say is be truthful infront of VO and make your sentences short and clear. Be confident.

     Be prepared with these kind of questions if you travelled before.

(My work location is Boston and I lived there)

VO: How is Boston treating you?
Me: not bad, getting used to cold sir. (he was smilling)

VO: Can I see ur petition docs?
Me: Sure sir.
(Passed the docs)

VO: I'm approving ur VISA, When are you traveling back?
Me: thank you sir. Answered

VO: You will receive PP in 7 days.
Me: Okay sir. Thank you. Have a nice day.

That's all. That was not even 2 mins. Best luck people.
