Successful H4 Stamping at Chennai Consulate
Follwoing is my H4 visa interview experience on 23 - may - 2007
V.O : when were you married ?
Me : xxxx
V.O: How long has your husband been in the US ?
Me: answered
V.O : Can you show me his latest pay stubs ?
Me: Showed him the paystubs, until this question everythng was going on quite smooth , V.O was expecting to see paystubs generated biweekly n he said he sees some problem here . It was four months that my husband was in the US and had taken an initial amount as advance towards furnishing and setting up the apt from his Co , which was reflected in the paystub n i explained this to him and again told him that this is a paystub that gets generated monthly and not biweekly. He was convinced.
V.O : Were you in the US before ?
Me: (I was in the US in 2000 on a B1 visa n later got my status changed to an H1 but returned to India as i was getting married , i expected him for sure to ask this question , he kept looking into my passport for an H1 stamping but then i told him i have an approved I 797 n that i din get it stamped in my passport.) So explained the entire situation to him , asked him if he wanted to see my I 797 , he said no. (and this was all on my maiden name , coz i had a name change post marriage , hence i needed him to listen and understand , which he patiently did )
V.O: Did you ever apply for an H4 before ?
Me : No
V.O :When did you enter Kuwait ?
Me : xxxxxx (I had been in kuwait after my marriage n returned to India a year after ).
V.O :By now i guess he was convinced about my case ), so shall i write your tentative travel date as xxxxxx ,
Me : Yes ( i cudnt help but smile here)
V.O : Your application has been approved and you will shortly receive your passport.
Me : Thank You.
This is how it went on , while i had certian important issues like my change of status, change of name n my husband's paystubs to explain , he was patient enough to listen and understand , so the key is anticipating , preparing yourself for the same and saying it right.
Before my interview , there was another girl applying for her student visa , he rejected her saying improper documentation , but she kept pleading and insisting that she be granted the visa , this went on for a good 15 - 20 minutes and finally security had to whisk her away , so i was worried about the V.O being in a bad mood and how my interview would turn out to be , but God's Grace , everything went on smooth.
Another interesting thing that you all would love to hear , A.R Rahman was also at the consulate ,(for his visa stamping to perform in the US am sure ), looked really cool and very much down to earth inspite of being such a big celebrity. Unfortunately cudnt take his autograph as i was stuck in the finger print que .

H1 B and H4
My application for H1 B process has been picked up in random selction process for this year quoata.It may take some time to get new H1.I am Planing to take My wife and kid as dependent to file H4 on my H1 documents.
My question is which one of these better choice for attending Embassy ???
***First i will attend H1B interview and get stamp once that’s done ... then book the slot for your wife and kid while i am in india.
or
***Attending with my family all 3 on same day.
Could any body tell me with the past experiences(in such cases if any body faces) mail ur experiences to [email protected]

Is 50000 increase in H1B Quota for this Year??

I had attended the chennai consulate last year Dec. I got 221G. In 221G they mention drop all the document in VFS drop box. I have received docuemnts from employeer last week. My employeer told, attend the personal interview again. Is it possible can I attend the interview again in consulate ? or Should I drop the documents in VFS dropbox? How many months it will take process and get the visa ? Can you any one please give me suggestion?

Have you noticed this. After reading to the experiences noticed this. After submitting documents for 221(g), if one receives their passport the next week itself, they are getting visa stamped. Or if they receive passport after 3 weeks, they are not getting visa stamped but their 797 getting revoked. Ofcourse some cases taking months with no reply.
Does anybody else have experiences contrary to this observation?

I attended my H1B interview in Channai Consulate in Last 2 months before and i got 221(g) blue foam , and they told me drop those docuements in VFS Office.
I asked required docuemnts fro my employer then he told it may take 2 to 3 months to get those documents .So i am waiting for those documents.Insha Allah i will get all those documents soon.
My doubt is Can i drop DS-156, 157 also along with those documents ? and how much time it take to get visa after dropping those documents in VFS Office?

Appointment in Delhi vs Chennai
Hello everyone, First of all Thanks to everyone for sharing knowledge and valuable experiences.
This site has been very helpful to me.
I am planning to take an appointment in Delhi but i see that no dates are available even in June(only one or two dates are shown and they are not available for selection for south indian candidates).
Here are my questions.
1.Is their any specific reason for the dates getting closed so early in advance.
2.Can we take an appointment in Delhi for H1 visa even if we belong to south india. If Yes what are the chances of getting an appointment in Delhi.
3.In what way are chennai and delhi consulates different.I see that lot of them are getting 221g in chennai consulate(is it that hard to face interview in chennai).
Request you to Please spend your valuable time and provide your thoughts on the above questions.
