Got H1 on Nov 3rd chennai
Hi All,

This is a wonderful forum, learnt a lot from it and would like to contribute to keep it going.. My interview was standard but few things which i could not get when i applied are here + interview

My case : H1 for me, H4 for wife and 2.5y Kid.

There is still not clear info around on H4 dependents visa appointment, if your dependents are accompanying you for the interview, you need to pay visa appointment fees for each of them (Max 9 dependents along with you is what VFS told me...). Once you fill up your DS 156 and DS 157 and your Petition details, you need to fill up forms for each of your dependents and key to each applicant is the HDFC receipt number, you and your dependents will get the same time slot this way.

As usual rains and traffic made us reach the consulate by 10.50am. (Parking your Car : There is no designated parking for consulate, so parked at Woodlands Drive in and took an auto to consulate Rs.20; i think you can also try one of those shopping malls in Nungambakkam road near consulate)

Unfortunately had my car's remote key with me and they didn't allow me inside with that, so i was trying to dump it with somebody near the gate for 5 mins with no takers, One TN police constable told me to go to the chai shop 50 mts from counsulate and he will give you a token for it and charge Rs.30 for safe keeping. Suggest to use this only in exceptional scenarios. You need to show your passport and interview appointment at the gate, so keep them handy. Just report at this counter 10mins before interview, it will save you from sun and rain.

By this time its already 11.10 and they put us in the q for document verification (folks who went for interviews in 2005 or earlier would have given their visa interviews in these counters). Initially the VFS guy who put me in the q did not see my wife and kid, once he saw them i was moved to the counter start immediately. We finished there and was asked to go to the next building.

Apart from the standard docs and dd, she also took my marriage cert and kids birth cert for the folder. you may be sent back if you don't have your 2400($50) DD with you at this point.

Here too on seeing the Kid they pushed me to the start of finger printing counter (For me and my wife), This is the q which will take longer to go through as lot of people were waiting.

once finger printing is over, we were again pushed to the start of interview q,

1. Good mornings from VO and me
2. So you work for YYYY (US MNC in India)
3. Whats your highest Degree?
4. What are you going to do with your Employer? (Note: A good employer with 12 years history to talk about)
5. Can i have the offer and introductory letter they provided you?
6. where and how did you gain this particular domain knowledge?
7. When did you get married? where was the marriage held)
8. How old is your kid? where was he born?
(Both 7 & 8 were asked when she was looking at the original certs and at my wife and kid, i answered the questions)
9. your visa is approved, you will receive it in 3 days.

Just be yourself and don't look or sound desperate as if your whole life is dependent on this visa interview.

Wish the best for all the aspirants!!!

H1B & H4 Visa Stamping @ CHN
Hi,
First, let me appreciate this wonderful site for the excellent service that it provides.

Our interview was scheduled on 26th Oct 2006 at 1:00PM; we started from home (Tambaram) our at 10:00AM, we wanted to go to a temple @ Nanganallur prior to this Interview. But the traffic condition was so bad that we had to wait at several places in-between Tambaram & Meenambakkam. Knowing the condition of Guindy Kathipara Junction, we didn't want to take a risk, we decided to go to US Embassy directly without taking a diversion as we planned earlier. We reached there 12:45PM-------> It took around 2 & 1/2 hours to travel just 20 km; The security was kind in nature & he allowed us directly after seeing our 15 months old baby; the appointment verification happened first followed by the X-ray scanning & security check at the entrance. It's really bad that many professional are standing in a road side, not even a sheltor has been provided to protect them from heavy rain / sunlight :-(
Though we didn't suffer in condition, I was wondering why this was not triggered in anyone mind......coming back to Interview, the doc. screening went fast & we entered into the Interview place. We had to go for the fingerprinting & we waited for another 5 min. for the Interview; The Visa Off. (Lady) asked me only 3-4 questions (what are doing in your current co., what's yr designation, what's yr designation at client end, what are your roles & resp.). whe didn't ask a single question to my
wife.....immediately she concluded with this statement "Have a Nice Trip, your Passport with Visa will be delivered in another 3 days".....

In general the purpose of Interview is to evaluate whether the candidate is fit for the Visa Category / not; they don't question the integrity of our statements / knowledge, it's fair enough. Be Confident, have your documents neatly arranged, Good Luck.
Finally, Car parking is a pain in Chennai & you need to find out some places near by US Embassy using your "Out Of Box" thinking....pl. do not park it in the road side....you will be caught up by the COPS.....I saw few cars front wheel in locked condition.....
Regs, H.Ramesh.

Hi everyone
Hi everyone

First thanks a lot for sharing your experiences. It was of great help.
My visa interview was only for 3-4 mins. They asked me the following questions

1)Why you want to go to US?
2)Which company u r going to work for?
3)Why they have selected you?
4)How much will be your salary?
5)How you came to know about this company?
6)What is the strength of this company?

I have done Oracle certifications..so they asked me from where i have done my certifications and which papers of Oracle i gave.

Though i have carried all the documents as well as the company photograps..they didn't check anything except the petitioner.

That's it...so guys be relaxed, confident and have faith in God.You will surely get Visa.

All the best..:)

Strange Case but still got Visa
Hello,

First and foremost I thank all the people who kept on posting their
experiences here in this site. This not only helps the newbees but also builds
confidence of some people(like me)...

Please read thru for conversation/experience...

1st Appearance(H1-B)

VO: Good morning!
Me: Good morning Sir! How are you?

VO: Good. So, how long have you been working in this(Current Company) company?
Me: A little over 2 years

VO: What do you do there(I understood that he was enquiring my role)?
Me: I explained what exatcly I do... but very high-level

VO: How did this employer(H1-B employer) come to know about you?
Me: Explained him the entire process

VO: So, will you be working at client's place?
Me: Yes... (As that is what my employer told me)

VO: Do you have anything from client's end? Any documentation that supports your
earlier awnser?
Me: Not quite... but I do have a letter from my client stating the same...

VO: So, you do not have anything to support that you will be working at client's
place. But I need something...
Me: (By now I am quite nervous) I have list of projects that are being undertaken
by my employer... Service Itenarary...

VO: Give me that...
Me: Given all the documentation I had(Only the ones he asked for)

VO: Do you have any photographs of the company?
Me: Yes sir! (Gave a few pics)

VO: I will be back...
Me: Waited for almost 15 mins...

Finally he comes back...

VO: I am not rejecting your petition... but I need some more documents... to be more
precise... A letter from client stating that they have employed you... and service Itinerary
not the one you have... a more detailed one... and finally lease agreement of your
employer's office...
Me: OK Sir...

2nd Visit(H1-B)...

Now it is a different officer...

VO: Good morning!
Me: Good morning Sir!

VO: Did you get the end-client letter?
Me: Not quite the end-client letter but a letter from a vendor who is between my employer
and the end-client...

VO: No way! I am not going to accept any letter apart from end-client... I know the entire
thing about these third pary vendors... the very process is not legal... all this time
it has been going on... that is OK... but here after, I shall ensure that it will stop...
Me: But it is not possible to get a letter...(I was not let to speak)

Quite agitated by now... gets up from his seat...

VO: I am not going to listen to you... I can reject your case... but I am not doing it...
giving you one last chance to get a letter from end-client...
Me: OK sir... I shall see you again with the necessary documentation...

I contacted my employer... who was not ready to give end-client letter to me... Mean while
my current employer processed L1-Ind... and the interview date arrives...

3 rd visit but for L1-Ind...

VO: Good morning!
Me: Good morning ma'am!

VO: (She checks my passport and is confused) What is status of your H1-B?
Me: It is on hold ma'am. As I could not provide enough documentation, the preivous
officer put my case on hold unless I get back with the necessary documentation...

VO: But I can not proceed with L1-Ind unless status of H1-B is either approved or rejected
Me: (Shocked and speechless)

VO: Tell me. You want to go ahead with L1-Ind or H1-B?
Me: (Completely flabbergasted...Now I have to make a decision in just a few seconds)
OK, ma'am! I want to go ahead with L1-Ind...

VO: Then what about H1-B?
Me: I would like to cancel it...

VO: Do you know the procedure?
Me: No ma'am!

VO: Wait for a while until I call you...
Me: OK ma'am!(took a seat to sit... Now I am totally cursing myself... because it looked
like neither H1-B nor L1-Ind)

After about 45 mins I get a call from the same officer...

VO: I can see the note on my screen written by the officer who interviewed you before
saying that all the documents you had provided were fraudulent...
Me: Really? (Shocked again...)

VO: Now, you tell me the real things that happened... If you try to hide something,
I can reject your case right away...I can not proceed further unless I am convinced that
your case was not fraudulent...
Me: (Told her the entire thing about both the earlier visits)

VO: How did the employer(H1-B) came to know about you?
Me: (Website thing)

VO: What did you pay?
Me: Nothing...

VO: Were you interviewed?
Me: Yes ma'am! Even by the client...

VO: Well! You can not say that... that could be any body...
Me: You are right... but that is what I was told...

VO: Even the pics you have produced are fake
Me: What?

VO: Your employer(H1-B) has a very bad record...
Me: I can not believe this...

VO: OK. This is what you need to do. Send us an affidavit saying that you want to withdraw
your H1-B petition...all the photographs given by your employer... and other application
forms... drop these in VFS
Me: OK ma'am...

Did the same as asked to... a couple of months later passports have reached me with
L1-Ind visa.

Moral: 1. Be true... never try to lie... you think you are smart... they are smarter...
2. Double check your employer's credentials before you commit...

Thanks,
Sachin.
