H1B Stamping experience in Budapest,Hungary on 16th Oct 2006
First of all thanks to the moderator for maintaining such a wonderful site and also for those who contributed to post their experiences without which the value of this site would have been nothing. Now finally my turn has came so I am posting my experience here.

Before me around 100 peoples were already sitting in the hall.It all started with prescreening process, they checked my documents, which they found alright. That lady even complimented me that "Congratulations you are the first one to fill the application form correctly". Then after waiting for almost 1 hour,I was called by a consulate person for the interview. The interview went as follow: -

Me : Good Morning, Sir !!
VO : Good Morning
VO : Can you please keep your left finger on that box ?
Me : Yeah Sure
VO : Now put right finger
Me : I did..
VO : Please put your right finger again
Me : Did..
VO : So what are you doing here in Budapest ?
Me : I came here for studies and within 2 months of joining the school I got the job in YYYY Company.I finished my studies in April 2006 and completed my work contract in July.
VO : What is the name of your company ?
Me : YYYY company
VO : What they do ?
Me : There business is to provide Software Development and Consulting service.
VO : What you will be doing there ?
Me : In short,I will be involved with the whole Software Development Life Cycle. For example, taking the requirements of the client, planning, designing and developing software codes, testing and optimization of codes and it is then followed by providing trouble shooting support to clients.
VO : Since how long you have are staying in Budapest ?
Me : I have been staying here in Budapest for 2 almost years, one year and 10 months to be specific.
VO : Ok,I am giving you the visa. You go and pay the 50 USD visa fee on counter number 7.
Me : Thank you sir.
VO : Ok, I am giving you the visa. You go and pay the 50 USD visa fee on counter number 7.
Me : Thank you sir !!
Me : If you don’t mind, can I ask you two questions ?
VO : Yes, please ask.
Me : Firstly, Do I need to appear in American Embassy, Mumbai again for visa stamping ?
VO : No
Me : Secondly, Can I travel to US from Mumbai directly or do I need to come back in Budapest for traveling to states ?
VO : No, you can travel to US directly from India.
Me : Ok, thanks.

So my friends, my suggestion is just to prepare well and do your documentation correctly.Talk to the consulate person confidently but at the same time consulate person should feel that you are chatting with him casually and not bluffing at all....Leave rest of the things to god and offcourse the prayers of your family and friends.

Good Luck everyone !!!!

Chnnai-consulate - successful-Oct 11
All, I've been following the experiences posted in this site for quite sometime and it is time for me to post mine-

After the prescreening and fingerprinting, which took about 45 minutes, I was asked to go to a counter where there was an young lady.

VO: Good afternoon Sir, How are you?
Me: Doing good. Thx. How about you?

VO: Fine. Thx. Who is your petitioner?
Me: xxxx

VO: What do they do?
Me: provide IT solutions and went on to explain further......

VO: Ok..Ok..(impatiently)..What is your highest degree.?
Me: Mechanical engineering Bachellors

VO: Total work experience and with what company?
Me: 6 years with xxxxx

VO: Give me your degree certificate and experience proofs
Me: Handed

She went in probably to get them checked and cam back in 2 minutes

VO: Ok Sir, your VISA is approved. well done. You will get your passport in 3 days

Me: Thx so much.

My observations:
1. Unlike in the past, there is no insistence on the end client letters or the internal project product market analysis

2. Success rates are very high at Chennai consulate

3. It seems like there is a drive at the consulate to clear VISA applications quickly. Not much time is spent by the Visa officers with the candidates

4.Confident and precise answers will help. Don't try to be very descriptive

5. Visa applicants should qualify for the H1b speciality occupation either by educational qualification or by professional experience. Non computer education backgrounds, prepare to prove by professional experience

One final advice to VISA seekers - please don't put up unnecessary queues outside the consulate. Just be there before 15 minutes. Chennai is usually a hot place and there is no shelter outside the consulate.
