Chennai-H1 after 221g
First I would like to thank everyone for sharing their experiences which helped me in preparing in planned way to face the interview. I had to appear twice for getting the required H1 Visa. Thanks to this wonderful site too.

First Time

Me: Gd Morning Sir.
VO: Very Good Morning Sir.
Vo: Can you pass on the folder

Have gone through the application and started typing some thing on PC and then he asked which firm I was going.
Vo: So which company you are moving to?
ME: XYZ at ABC
VO: wat are you going to do there?
Me: To work in project XYZ
VO: Is it inhouse project or client side
Me: Inhouse project
VO: Can you tell some thing about that project
ME: !!!XYZ!!!
Vo: Do you have any documents related to that
ME: Yes sir.....handed over few docs I had.
Vo: Read the dcos for 5 mins. typed some thing on net.
Vo: Sir I think this document doesn't describe your project in comprehesively.
ME: Sir that is the only one I have
VO: Do you have marketing analysis doc for this
ME: Yes sir...handed over to him
VO: read for some time...then again took project description in hand and showing that document to me...Sir I am not convinced about the project and you job over there...I need complete functinal and techincal description.
ME: But my employer told that its confidential and may not be possible to share it with me.
VO: IF no documnts no Visa....took 221 form and marked all docs to be required

Next Time:

ME: Good Morning Sir
VO: Good Morning
Me: Handed over application folder to officer
VO: looked at the application. Did you get the docs
ME: Handed over to Officer
VO: looked at them flipping the pages and then searching in the net.
VO: Wat is this project Sir
ME: !!! blah blah !!! though VO is interested in typing some thing and not looking at me at all. I stopped only after concluding in some meaning full way though he seems to be not listening fully(coz cannot afford to end abruptly jst bcoz he is not interested). and then Waiting for his aknowledgment which I didnot get at all.

VO: Stood up went inside to talk to some one.
ME: tensed as he neither seems to listen to wat I was saying or ask me more any more questions.
VO: I don't think this project seems to be viable
ME: They have done detailed marketing analysis sir and upon getting confidence that this works they started design
VO: Really!!! typing some thing in net and flipping at photos of employer again and again.
VO : do yu have tax docs
ME: Yes sir...handed over..
VO: jst looked at first page...
VO: Ok Sir,.....I will handover all your documents to you now and pushed all the documents and I was busy collecting all documnets one by one which really took quite some time still not understading wats goin on..trying to find if passport is in those bunch
VO: "think I gave you all"...writing some thing on white slip..."Go to counter one with this slip and pay ur fee Sir"....
ME: thank You sir...

I would like to suggest you to just keep few things in mind while going over there which really help you to be confident to some extent(don't claim to be 100% true but still)

  1) If you get visa it is good but if don't get visa also its NOT that bad. we here in India have ample oppurtunities though slightly differ to that of US. So go there casually and try to be as cool as possible. Visa/US is not end of the world.

  2) First clear your position whether you are satisfied with the documents you are provided with or not. If you yourself are not confident, you cannot defend your project when officer comes in negetive way.

  3) Prepare with some logical points related to project which you can tell officer when asked. The sure shot question is "Tell about your project". So cannot afford to mess at this stage atleast

  4) Ofcourse some basic things.... Be honest(its must thing.....no cheating.....don't try to coverup too many things), Be confident...trust your God...

  5) Be alert and attentive irrespective of your earlier irritations/bad experiences/tireness/sweating etc., prior to u standing in line. Jst be coool.....and be urself...no extras watsoever. ppl say abt wearing light shirt and dark pant(Donno abt women).....I can say that one shud wear wat he feels confident of.(I wore dark blue shirt as I feel confident in it...)

all these may sound simple but these all are somehow said by our earlier frnds earlier or which I perceive atleast...

All the best frnds.....

SUCCESSFUL H4 Visa stamping @ CHENNAI
This is the experience of my spouse who had successful H4 Visa stamping at Chennai on March 23rd. Her appointment was at 2pm and was out by 7pm though the actual interview lasted for only 10 mins.

Note- You can pick up the Passport next day at the VFS office located in Teynampet area, Chennai.
Request the Visa Officer that you need the Passport urgent by next day if you plan to travel to USA in 2-3 days. Try to make it to VFS Office the next day before 2 Pm otherwise they will dispatch it by courier. There were many cases where the applicants did not receive the Passport even after 7 business days which is a big concern.

About myself- I came to USA to do Masters and i am on H1B Visa since 2003 working for a small Indian owned consulting company at their client sites.

Questions asked by male Visa Officer-
1. Is it arranged marriage?
2. Show me the Original Marriage Certificate
3. How long is your husband in USA
4. Is your husband working as a consultant
5. Show me your husbands company's tax returns and insurance documents
6. show me your husband payslips for the current year.
7. show me your husbands W2 forms and Tax Returns for all the years of his stay in USA
8. show the companys photos
9. show the Utility bills
10. show the Original Client signatured letter and contract agreement

Note- According to my spouse, there were rejections for the applicants (H1 and H4) who could not produce Tax / Financial documents, Client Letter (Client, if applicable), Photos etc.
Also the Utility bills are asked randomly.

The original signatured 'End Client letter' should mention the project details, job role, title, project duration etc and can be in any format.

!!! GOOD LUCK !!!
!!! NOT A LEGAL ADVICE. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK !!!

hi friends..

my inerview went very bad...let me start here :

for 35 miniutes he asked questions..examinign...i stared arguing with the senior VO and he is shocked.. after showing all docs including client letter clealry stating everything tax returns of employer.. he says " Mam i cant give u the visa at this point of time ..and issued 221 G whatever happens.. i decided and asked " Sir give me a reason why its ot sufficient" he is shocked and stared into my eye....but i dint know what iam talkign.. the situations whcih took place at the entrance itself ghave a very negative impact... ' he replied no end client photos.. i told that I have client contract alogn with separate end client lettermentioning my anme and pay scale everything and told "pls validate these as i have everything"

i shud not have aurgued..infact my mood is very abd .. as i had faced tough time for accomodation being a girl( its not planned) and at the entrance that indian lady sent me out saying" Mam i will wait for u.. she realized my face is very tired and told me to ahve lunch and come...with a new set of photos as i my hair convered my ears .. funny...and she cud not see my ears ..which is against the rules....iam not familair wit chennai and the burning heat ..irrritated me ..after 2 hrs i returned to the consulate with the photos...

prior to me an old lady got rejected ..then a couple got rejected for visit visa....then mine... the moment the ladyc ame to know that iam from andhra university she started examinign my certificates under the light ( no worries mine are genuine .. infact topper in few subjects from the university) and sent me to another guy.. some fraudlent people played witht he consulate once ...and now everyone from Andhra university is treated as 3 rd grade citizens..so this VO is an young american ..asked me "Apko hindi aati hain " smiling... after seeing my language certificates...i gave hima compliment hat he speaks good hindi and he is very happy to hear it...thanked me...and asked me to walk thru all the subjects in college ..one by one.. i did the same...then the 35 to 55 min quesstionaire out of which 15 min are with my education ...after that abt my job role......Guys if u r SAP consultants pls be careful.. those VO's will never be convinced with ur answers... Iam an SD consultant..he asked me how is my sales job (previous domain experience)related to SAP ? I explained him whats SAP SD module and abt business process blah blah blah... he asked me whats GAP Analysis ? ... again blah blah blah and he says " oh i thot its the GAP men's wear Brand... Lolz.. such a sad joke when iam tensed and i gave a stupid smile ...then one by onemy tax returns.. w2. all i gave him..then the argument took place (which i wrote above) trust me the ladies in the consulate r better in issuign the visas...with all this negative incidents at the inception itself..made me to argue.. well.. i didnt ven see his face and thank him... asked him for the certificates .. he told he will be needing ..it but i told i may be requiring my recent appointment letter atleast for applying jobs and took it from the file without his permision ( at this time it didnt botehr me whether he will give me the visa or not) if not US so many countries..infact i know decent japanese ...) at the end.. he asked me passport and stamped "date and year" on the last page.. GUYS PLS TELL ME what does this mean? Does this mean rejected then why he gave me 221 G..and retained my certificates..pls write to me at nikita80atbreakthru.com iam sorry for the lengthy one... at the here.....what i wud suggest is ...though u had many distractions.. the moment u enter inside the main building do not think of anything ..abt the visa or dont asssume anythign abt the itnerview...think of some fav songs ..music etc..I wish u good luck to all of you awaiting to hear the news which can change ur lives.. but never get disappointed... this is not the end of the world.. India is paying better now and the trend has changed everyone is coming back...dont think that these is how loosers think...one of my best friend got rejected thrice in chennai consulate.. and today he is doing fantastic ...in JAPAN .. bette pay than US..than everyone in my circle ..
what i say is "whatever happens is for our good" "Jo bhi hota hain hamare bhale ke liye hi hota hain" "emi jarigina mana manchi kosame"

H4 approved, but didn't get my passport
I had been to consular interview on March 21, 2006 for my H4 visa. My visa was approved and the consular officer told me that I would get my passport in 3 working days. Unfortunately, I didn't get it till now. Its already past 7 business days.

If any one has any idea about it, please submit your views.

Regards,
Manasa.

stamping succesful after 221g
Hi Guys,

Please check my conversation with the VO

First visit to the consulate was in Feb and interview went like this

1. When are you married ?
2. What is your Engineering background?
3. Can I see your degree certficates and marks lists for all the years ?
4. Where ae you working now and for how long ?
5. To which company are yu going ?
6. Pictures of the company in US ?
7. Will you be working in in-house or at clients place ?
8. On what project will you be working ?

Then a 221g query on the project requesting project description, timelines, current phase of the project, marketing analysis and how much money will the product earn for the company.

Me and my wife the interview and the officer said that next time when I come I need not take my wife along with me.He just asked me to bring her passport along with me when I come with the required docs again.

I have contacted my employer regarding the query and he gave a very good analysis for the items asked in the query.

My next interview was in March.I went alone taking my wifes passport with me.

This time the interview went like this(lady officer this time).

1. What is your engineering background
2. Did you bring the docs requested
3. Explain the project (officer observed my eye-eye contact during my explanation of the project.for 2-3 mins she was observing my confidence ad maintained eye-eye contact for the whole time during explnation)
4. Is the project started in US ?

Your VISA is approved SIR, please pay the fees

For your info guys,
this is my 4th personal attendance to the consulate ( 2 F1 and 2 H1)
and in between three F1 rejections by post.
so I have 6 rejections at the back of my passport and 7th atttempt was succesful.
So dont get discouraged for 221g, it is just a intermediate step to get the VISA.

All the best guys.
