Indian Passport

Hi Everyone, I have a question. I applied for Passport renewal at SFO Consulate. On 04/21, the status on the MEA website changed to Print has been initiated. On 04/23 got an email that says
his is to inform you that Police Verification Request has been sent to the Police department (refer the following table for details) for your Passport Application (Re-Issue Passport Issuance under Normal scheme) submitted.

What does that mean ? do i need to do anything ? I thought folks had police verification before print ?

I submitted my passport application in February 2022 Police verification was requested but the address in india cannot be verified. I have not lived in india for a long time and new neighbors dont want to share their ID. Police officer is corrupt and asking for a bribe on his terms which is fishy. Indian embassy in San Francisco is not responding.
I dont know what to do or who else to contact. Anyone has an idea where to start or have a similar experience? Thanks

I've used my ARN to track my application on VFS website. It says that the application is at Embassy/Consulate for review.

However, on the Passport Seva website, tracking doesn't work: the page keeps asking me for File Number. Using my ARN, the response is "The status of the entered File Number is not available in the system."

Am I missing something? Is the File Number different from ARN and if so where can I locate it?

Hello Everyone,

I submitted my documents yesterday. Included all but the self sworn affidavit. I didn't find it written in the required docs list in the VFS site. Will they ask me for it?
Also, the notary refused to notarize the passport and DL copy. Instead told me to write a letter that both have been verified by him and he notarized that form. Will that work?

I am panicking a little. I am applying for a re-issue of an expired passport (within three years). Gathered all the documents, notarized, photocopies etc. FedEx to VFS on Thursday 14th April, but since Friday the 15th (today) is a VFS office holiday, the application will be delivered on Monday the 18th.

My BIG problem: My old/expired passport was issued in New York. BUT, on the Govt form, I put Mumbai accidentally. (Looking at the printable page preview.)

I'm guessing others have made this mistake. How do I rectify this asap? Generate a new application form??? I don't want to pay the Tatkal fees again! Contact VFS and submit a corrected copy? But how, without generating a new application form? My experience with outsourced passport/visa centers isn't good -- they seem to be under-trained and non-responsive?

I need to travel to Mumbai in the next 2 to 3 weeks, which is why I opted for Tatkal.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

March 25th, 2022 - Documents submitted to VFS.
March 26th,2022 - Application received by VFS Global.
March 31st, 2022 - Your Application has been ‘Processed’ at the VFS India Consular application Centre and currently is ‘In-Transit‘ to the Embassy of India/Consulate General of India for decision making.
April 1st, 2022 - Application has been received at the Mission.
April 4th, 2022 - Print has been initiated.
April 13th, 2022 - Passport is printed and will be delivered shortly.
April 14th,2022 - Your Application has been reviewed by the Embassy of India/ Consulate General of India & will be dispatched using the courier service you had opted.
April 15th,2022 - Received both Old and New Passports from fedex.

Overall Process was smooth and there was no police verification initiated in my case.

Hi All, I applied for Passport renewal- regular processing at SFO on March 28th 2022. The status on Passport Seva Kendra portal was updated to "Print has been initiated" on April 4th 2022. It's been more than a week and nothing changed on the status. I have seen people posting that their status has been changed from "Print has been initiated" to "Printed" mostly in one day. Also did not get any email for police verification. Is this expected? Anyone in same boat? Please share your experiences. Thanks in advance.

I am looking for some guidance. I completed my passport renewal application and sent it to the Chicago consulate general. The application reached Chicago on April 8, 2022, via VFS. On April 9, 2022, I received an email about my 'Initiation of Police Verification' for an Indian address with the District Police Headquarters details. However, the Police station's (Thana) name was missing.

On April 11, 2022, when my parents inquired regarding the police verification at the local police station and district headquarters, parents were informed that the request had not been accessible by the police station since the email was missing the Police station's (Thana) name. Due to this, the verification cannot be completed.

Has anyone faced a similar issue, and how did it get resolved?
