L1A Individual approved - Chennai after L1A Blanket Refusal
Hi All,

I would like to thank this forum for the support and help. This site has really helped me in getting the interview experience to prepare well.

I had my L1A blanket interview in the 3rd week of January 2018 which was refused by the Consular officer and gave me 221g slip. He did not mention any thing specific in it.

My company had applied immediately under Individual category and filed in the USCIS on 31st Jan 2018. My petition got approved without any RFE on 8th Feb 2018. i had my Visa interview on 3rd week of March 2018 and got my visa approved. I went with my family spouse and 2 kids for both the interviews

Questions asked L1A Blanket (9:00 Am slot Chennai):
Which company you work for?
Where are you travelling?
How many DRs?
What are their Roles?
Whats you salary?
how long are you working with this company?

then he typed for 1 mins and stamped "Clearly not approvable" in my I-129 and gave me 221g blue slip.

Questions asked L1A individual (7:45AM slot Chennai):
Which category of visa are you applying for?
Which company you work for?
What do they do?
Which location are you going to travel?
How long you are going to stay?
Whats you salary?
The VO asked about previous L1A Blanket refusal and told that applying individual petition is the right way.
Then he typed for 2 mins in his system and told those golden words "Your Visa's are approved" you may go now.

No questions to my spouse and kids.

Looking forward for my passports stamped with Visa and travel to USA...

L1-A Blanket Rejected, Individual approved-Functional Manager
I had the bitter experience of L1-A blanket getting rejected. My company applied for Individual under premium processing, but overall it took 2 months to get the visa in hand.
Blanket:
I think lack of preparation was the main mistake, when we are struggling to get all documents in order, we may lose the main point: preparation, so please don't do that mistake, prepare well for 3 basic questions
1) YOUR ROLE
2) WHAT FUNCTION (EXPLAIN THE FUNCTION)(for functional managers)
3) WHAT YOU WILL DO or WHAT ARE YOUR DAY TO DAY ACTIVITIES: MOST IMPORTANT

Points should be flowing as soon as you could relate the question to any of the above 3 questions, they can ask whichever way they want, example (WHAT DO YOU DO). I don't have reports, but I'm managing a function and key partners, that is another good selling point for functional managers. If ever you are asked a number, for example, number of indirect reports, have it ready and it should be big and good, not 3-4... you can add your partners/QA you manage as well.

Attire: For L1A, blazers is recommended, VO's are wearing tie.

If the points are not coming out, write it....again & again...also try to have a logical flow in your mind. Ask your spouse to take some mock interviews ... or even as someone else suggested in this forum, look at the mirror and practice.

Hope this helps someone. Be yourself, don't try to look confident if you are not.
Feel free to ask/pm me any doubts, I can help if needed. I can't thank enough people who have helped me from this forum.
PS:DS 160, while filling 2nd time, there is a question whether you are rejected a visa, my attorney mentioned the answer should be "NO" as the visa is not rejected but the blanket petition. Initially I said YES, then I changed to NO and rescheduled appointments.

L1 B Blanket Approved
Hi All,

This site has really helped me getting all relevant questions. I will recommend everyone to visit this website before they appear for appointment.

Here are some details of what happened that day. I have taken appointment for 12:30 pm. I reached embassy by 12 pm and then after all security check-in I was given token. I then went for bio-metrics and submitted all documents, however they only took some of my documents. After all process including fee payment, I went for interview. Below is conversation between me and VO:

Me: Good afternoon Sir
VO: Good afternnon

VO: You applying for L1
Me: Yes

VO: What will be your role in US
Me: My role in US will be xx

VO: What will be your responsibilities in US
Me: I will be performing xx

Then we went much deeper into question and was getting into details. Mostly his focus was that can someone else in US can perform this expertise easily. I answered all his questions making him understand my roles and responsibilities in US

VO: So what I understand is that you will be doing xx. Is my understanding correct?
Me: Yes

VO: Ok, what will be your salary in US
Me: It will be xx

VO: Where will be you staying in US. Is your company going to provide you home to stay
Me: I will be staying at xx and xx

and finally that much awaited words from him "Your visa is approved"

Key thing is that you should be thorough with details in DS-160 form and your Petition. Your should be confident enough for your answers. VO not only listens to your answers but also does face reading, the way your answer, etc... Be calm and answer to questions in understandable format, avoid answering in detail.

Thanks,
Prateek

EAD work permit - 8 months in total
Hi,

I just wanted to share my experience with you because it can help some of you.

I received my EAD card 8 MONTHS after my first request.

- July 20th 2017: first demand of EAD card to USCIS
- September 22nd 2017: EAD approved by USCIS
- October 2nd 2017: Card undeliverable because USCIS send it to the wrong address despite I provided the correct one in the first place. They made a typo mistake.
- October 7th 2017: I made a request on USCIS website to send the card back to me.

I called USCIS a lot of times and I’ve told that I have to wait 30, 45, 60 days to receive the card.

Since USCIS cannot attest that they have the card we decided, with my lawyer, to declare it lost.

- December 14th 2017: demand of replacement of EAD because of USCIS mistake.
- December 15th 2017: I received the receipt with a new receipt number. From now on I was eligible to work in the us. My employer accepted the receipt as a proof of employment for 90 days. After 90 days I should present the card.
- January 13th 2018: I received a letter from USCIS saying that they will mail the card back to me within 45 days (ETA Feb 27th). Despite I am calling every day to check on the status they are not able to tell me if the card has been send or not. I am not able as well to talk to a tier2 immigration officer. I scheduled a call back 7 times but they never called me back.
- February 12th 2018: Contacted my local congressman asking for help. She placed an internal request with USCIS.
- February 27th 2018: No card received. Appointment at the USCIS location. The agent sent an internal email to resend the initial card. She told us to wait 5 days and to go with the receipt number and check with our local USPS office.
- March 6th 2018: USPS tracking number pre-shipment from USCIS
- March 8th 2018: EAD RECEIVED !!!!!!!!!

I just wanted to share with you and give you some advise if something like that ever happen to you.
USCIS made a typo mistake on my address despite i sent the correct one in the first place.

- If you have this kind of situation don't hesitate to work closely with your lawyer, i had a job offer pending and she find a solution for me to work even without this card.

- Contact also the congressman of your district, they are here to help you.

- Keep calling USCIS everyday and and try to speak to a tier2 officer.

- Be informed of your deliveries by USPS. In fact, i didn't know that but it's really helpful. You can track with USPS every mail and package coming to you even if you don't have the tracking number. That's how i found out that my EAD card was finally mailed.

- Go to the USCIS location as often as possible, I took 2 appointments with USCIS, The first one in January was completely useless, but the second one at the end of February changed everything !

These 8 months was really stressful and we even think of heading back to our country with my husband. Hope you don't have the same trouble as me but in case i hope this will help.

Thanks
Mary
