L1-A VISA Advice

Hi All,

My company has filled L1A Blanket VISA for me. I shall attend the interview on 26th of this month. However, most of my colleges got visa rejected in last 1 month. Only 1 out of 10 applicants got VISA approved. The person who got approved VISA is more than 20 years with the Organization. I am 5.8 years with my Org. The salary offered is $88K. I am as IT Delivery Manager. Please share your piece of advice. What are my chances and if I need to change anything here.

Thanks,
LeSaUsKa

L1A Blanket - Approved on 6th Feb 2018
My L1A Blanket got approved along with three L2 applicants (;wife and two children below 14 yrs of age... yes I took them along despite not required to because I feel it helps the overall cause to go as a family); at the Chennai consulate on 6th Feb morning slot

This site has been of great great help without any doubts.

Honestly my reasons of success could be attributed as follows (;listing them down so that everyone can relate to and can strategize and prepare accordingly);

MOST KEY - US Salary (mine was above $1X0K above);
MOST KEY - Clearly knowing and crisply explaining; no. of Direct & Indirect Reports in US and offshore, 2); Roles & Responsibilities in US along with why you are best fit
MOST KEY - Documents and Paperwork
MOST KEY - Remain COOL
MOST KEY - Luck
KEY - CONFIDENCE
KEY - Knowing all experiences thru immihelp.com
CRITICAL - ATTIRE (;I wore trousers, formal shirt and formal jacket);

Let me share the Biometrics day

1) Appointment was at 9:30am. We reached at 8:40am. Kids were troubling after a while.

Suggestion #1 - please reach only 15 mins before your slot, no use reaching before that. People not from same town should ensure their hotel is right near so time to reach can be predicted with a lot of accuracy.

2); Went inside for Biometrics, My wife and younger child was asked to go separately and me and my elder child separately.

3) simple 5-7 minutes process and exit DS-160 checked along with Passport

Please remove your old passport and keep it in your folder. They will ask you to do so

Visa Interview Day

1); My appointment was on 9:15am. I reached at 8:40am.

Please please please reach just in time. You have to wait in the queue on the footpath. No use. Please reach just in time.

2); Entered inside, folder was scanned, pockets were emptied and checked.

3); L1A table girl asked to give 3 sets of first 7 pages of i129s along with one page of i79 petition.

4); walked ahead, into a separate building connected internally

5); was made to line up in queue for Fraud Detection Fee and Border Security fees

6); Was made to go to counter 16 where she took primary applicant (;mine); passport and asked me to place left had four fingers on the biometric machine (;verification);

7); Was made to go to counter #18 (;this was the VI counter);

Stood with my dependents behind the white line while a VI was happening which i could hear.

The person before me L1A Blanket was rejected and he was asked to contact his HR to apply under a different category.

My turn came -

VO: Please come
Me: I walked ahead to stand just at the counter in front of the VI officer (;male);

(My hearbeats were uncontrollable and all time high)

VO: Hi Sir, Good Morning
Me: Good Morning Officer

VO: Could you please give your passport, fee receipt, i129s along with i797
Me: Sure, should i give all 4 passports?
VO: yes please

(he was looking and typing on the computer, then moved his chair to the right and started going thru my i129s. This whole took 1-2 minutes where I counted 1-10 repeatedly to cool down);

VO: So how long have you been working with XYZ?
Me: Almost 2 years now

VO: What is your designation at XYZ?
Me: Answered

VO: What would you exactly be doing in the US for XYZ?
Me: I would be leading a $1XXmn+ engagement with a very large client of XYZ, called ABC as a P&L owner primarily driving sales and business development.

VO: What would your salary be in the US?
Me: Answered
VO: Hmm! (;nods his head a little bit in affirmation, which is why I said in L1A blanket salary is very key, i cant say whats the right level, but 60K-70K-80K etc are low);

VO: How many reportees would you have?
Me: 24

VO: All in the US?
Me: No, 6 Direct in US; 6 Indirect in US

VO: How many indirect reportees would you have?
Me: 18, out of which 6 in US, rest in India

VO: What are the titles of the people reporting to you directly
Me: Answered (I had a firm crisp answer to his prepared);

(Then the Golden words were spoken;

VO: Ok Sir, I am approving your Visa, I’m going to keep one copy along with your passports and handing over two copies to you, please give one copy to your HR and one copy you have to show at the port of entry in US. Thank you
Me: Thank you officer, appreciate!

No questions to my wife, my kids. Was a very straight faced guy, no glimpse of smile at all and on top of that he rejected the guy before me. Did not See even my support letter. I feel they have already made the decision before the interview to a large extent

Went outside thanked each and everyone in the consulate whoever i met, the security guards etc etc

Caught an auto, we fitted ourselves, chanted my religious hym, took the auto guys mobile and called my dad!

Guys prepare well and know your application well and please please go thru immihelp experiences as they really let you know the questions trend which prepare you very very well.

Guys, US is not the end of the world, so don’t be overtly stressed, but if you really wanna be there, please prepare well. It’s not that difficult as it is made to listen or see. So just be cool and be confident and make sure that your application is in proper shape and you are applying the right category of VISA

Cheers and all the very best to all of you and thanks immihelp, tons of hugs to you guys!

Responding to RFE for L1B individual.
Hi,

My company filed L1B blanket petition last year and it got rejected last December. Last month, my attorney again filed for L1B individual in premium processing. Few days back I have got RFE which is massive. I have figured out most of the answers and evidences. But need some help in below questions :
-How to prove specialised skills. - I got multiple training and my on job experience which helped me to gain most of the critical knowledge. I was fortunate to work on various issues and projects which gained me thorough knowledge . I dont have any certificate for the trainings I got. What should I do and prove that I have all proprietary skills?
-How much to write while answering every question. I got more than 10 questions specific to my skills. Does answering within 5-10 lines is good enough Or it has to be very detailed and long answer.
-Should I be very specific to the technology I am working on (which means, office might not understand most of the things , since its proprietary technology) or should I be very generic so that office can understand (but then I dont want him to think, its not specialised knowledge)
-For few questions, I am planning to take the printout of mails and internal slack chat (where I got appreciation) and send it to officers. Is that acceptable as a proof ?

Also how do I answer questions which says, what benefits organisation got because of your knowledge Or skills ?
- I am in engineering team. So dont have do any selling or marketing . And my name doesn't come in any of the published document. How do I prove what impact or benefits my org has gained from my work?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

L1A Individual Approved @ Mumbai
I have attended interview at Mumbai for L1A individual. I would like to thanks everyone for sharing their experience which helped throughout the process.

OFC : You need to reach 30 minutes prior to schedule. My scheduled time was 15:15, but they allowed me to enter @ 14:45 and entire process completed before 15:00. It was very seamless and only finger print and photo were taken.

Interview : 31st Jan : 9:30 AM

Knowing the Mumbai traffic I started @ 8:00 AM and reached to venue by 08:30 AM. There were around 500 people outside Visa office awaiting for their turn along with their relatives. I was expecting the as many people in this forum mention the same. I was allowed @ 09:30 AM.

After all the security check I was in front of VO

Me : Good morning Mam
VO: Not replied, Please give me your Passport & I797

VO: Have you read the document?( They have given 5 pages document at entrance)
Me : Yes

VO : Are you sure that you have read the document
Me : Yes

VO : Where are you going?
Me : XYZ location

VO : Are you working for client or for your company
Me : Company

VO : What is your role?
Me : Explained the role and mention that from my company office, I will be working for my customer.

VO : You just mention that you are working for your company, now you are telling me that you are going to work for customer?
Me : Explained that what will be my role.(VO was not convinced with my answer from expression)

VO : Why can't you work remotely?
Me : Explained that why I need to work from US location.(At that time I was very nervous and thinking that I might lose this opportunity)

VO : How many people will report to you?
Me : 38 (very confidently)

VO : Your visa has been approved.
Me : Thank you

For some time I have my own doubts whether VO has rejected my case or approved as they have not given anything to me and took my passport, but I have received my passport with stamp.

Tip : Once they have approved your petition, 99.99%, they will approve your case. They really need solid reason to reject your case. Worst case they can ask for additional document.
So ensure that you have all the required documents.
Whatever mention in your petition document, go through once and give the same answer during interview.

All the best everyone.

L1 A Individual and L2 petition approved at Mumbai
We have opened a new office in the United States and this may be a unique experience to add. I myself have been referring to this forum for such a situation but found none.

I will directly jump on to the conversation with the VO as rest procedure is very generic.

Me: How are you doing today?
VO: Very Well
VO: What does your company do?
Me: Answered. (He went to ask specific details on the project and operations).
VO: How many employees do you have in the US
Me: Answered
VO: How many people do you manage in India
Me: Answered
VO: How long have you been working in the company
Me: Answered
VO: Did you found the company?
Me: Answered

To my Spouse:
What do you do?: Answered
Would you be working in the US: No, just going to accompany my spouse.

"Your Visa has been approved and you may collect your passport in 2 days.

One indication: While waiting in the queue to verify your finger prints, just before you are sent to the VO, be observant and see if there is yelling, shouting at one particular window. If there is, try to avoid standing in front of that line VO: you can act busy by taking out documents, holding your child, tieing lace, etc. We saw that: Whoever went there was not looking out happy, rejected, administrative processing, etc etc.

The time taken in total from appointment time to exit was around 25 to 30 mins.

Also, it takes 2 working days for your passport to be picked up. The status online till then, will show administrative processing and it will also say it may take several weeks, so do not panic. Your final verdict is what the VO tells you.

Hope this helps. Do post questions if any and any way I can help.
