L1A Blanket Granted @ Chennai
Thanks to the forum for questions and experiences.

I have been living in US and working on L1B for over 2 years now with a base salary in 6 digits. I had my renewal and conversion from L1B to L1A Blanket at Chennai on June 22 as my L1B was getting over in Sept 2016 and I was promoted to program manager 18 months back in US.

Overall 3 hours ordeal from outside gate to exit gate! Consular was giving everyone ample time to explain and that boosted my confidence. I saw more approvals than what I had imagined.

Questions:

Consular started with saying that I already have a B1 and L1B.

1. Client name:
2. Reporting: Direct / Indirect:
3. My Supervisor designation:
4. How his role different from mine:
5. Am I the most senior person at client site other than my supervisor:
6. US Annual Salary:

That's it. I couldn't believe - It was quick and I got my visa approved before I could realize!

Be Confident is all I can say during the interview and most importantly, write your initial forms answers very descriptive.

L1 Visa Renewal- Query
Hi All,

I have few questions on L1 visa renewal. Renewal as in, I have valid L1A visa which will expire in next 6 months and have to get new visa stamped and not I94 extension. I will give you some background about my situation.

I got my first L1(B) visa stamped in Dec 2010 and valid till Dec 2013. Though the visa was valid for 3 years, I have utilized only 13 months. Later at the end of Dec 2013, My employer asked for L1 Renewal and I got another L1(A) stamped for 35 months (Jan 2014 to Dec 2016). Again my total stay in US in new visa will be (12 months) leaving almost 23 months outside US. At this point, my company is asking for Visa renewal in Canada. I have some questions around visa stamping.

1) Is there any time limit for L1 Visa like "cooling" period for H1 or cannot renew more than 2 times?
2) Since I have stayed more # of days outside US, Can I take credit of that for visa renewal? I believe it happens only for I94 extension.
3) Did anyone face or heard of visa rejection in Canada recently?
4) Last time I went to Ottawa but this time planing to go to Calgary.

Looking for your advice.

What is current wait time for L1A
Hi,
Thank you for sharing experiences here. I am bit worries about the processing times for the L1A visa. How much is the current wait time until the L1A visa petition gets approved after filling for normal type processing?
Any inputs would be a great help.

Downright humiliating
I had my L1-B visa interview today.
My company sends less than 20 People on L1-B in a year. That's a small number considering the size of the organization. (among top 10 software firms). We've never had any rejections. I myself have traveled to US couple of times on B1.

Given my strong knowledge in proprietary specific tool and good package, i thought it would be approved. I was wrong.

If you don't know, currently rejection rate of L1-B is around 60% for India. RoW is about 30% It was visible in the interview too.

I wasn't even asked 3-4 questions. I think the VO already had made her mind. Here are the questions.

1. What's your current company ?
Ans : YYYY pvt. ltd.

2. Which client you'll be working for in US ?
Ans: I'll be working for my parent company YYYY inc.

3. No sir, which client site you'll work ?
Ans: (our company makes software and I am field engineer), I do work at customer site, but it's providing services. Still i gave her 2-3 name.

4. What's your specialization ?
Ans: Started explaining (halfway down asked me to stop )

(spend about 5-6 minutes talking to someone, not sure on the same topic)

comes back to me, saying your Visa in not clearly approvable. L1-B qualification have become quite strict. You should ask you company HR to file under right category.

After, that there was not hearing back from me, and the seal was done.

I still can't understand why ?
My company has had no rejections in past. I was pretty confident and sold most of my house hold items too, as i was supposed to join in a week after it.

It's 12 hours now and despair and sadness is gone.

I am not sure If i would want to re-apply again.

L1B - Approved ( Me, Wife and son)
Interview Date: 15th June, 10am
Visa Status: Approved
Received the passport with VISA stamp on 17th June @ Bangalore VFS office

As mentioned by others, the waiting time is too much and interview time is very less. We were staying in the hotel right opposite to consulate office so just took 2 mints to reach the place.

We joined the queue @ 9:15am and entered the first door (D1) only at 10:10am. - total 55 mints
scanned all documents ( full security checkup) and enterered the second door (D2)
then one gentleman will ask what kind of visa. If you say L1B, then he will make us sit in differnt place and asks us to give three copies of ( I-129, first page of I-797), passport, DD and interview appointment letter
he will fold nicely and put one rubber band (please keep in the same order)
join the Q and exit from Dorr 3 (D3) - total 30 mints
Go outside and wait for another 30-40 mints
then enter another heavy door (D4).
Here your DD will be collected and the receipt will be added to the previously collected documents
Move to next counter and verify the finger prints
move to another counter to verify the passport. This gentleman will wish us "all the best for interview"
now joined the actual interview Q. It was like a snake and spent almost 30-40 mints (since its AC room it was ok). Fun part is we can see how the interview is going on for others
then sit on some chair for 10-20 mints
Now you will be sent for the interview.

I was in the assumption that we will be allowed to sit and discuss. after going there I saw that its a different story. They make us stand infront of glass door and interview.

Questions were general and very simple. Total interview was just 10 mints.

Question to me:

VO> Good morning
VO> Give me your passport
VO> Give me your papers
VO> where do you work?
VO> for how long?
VO> Whats your specialization?
VO> Why are you going to US?
VO> Why you?
VO> how long you will be in US?
VO> Salary

Questions to wife:
VO> How long you been married
VO> When is your anniversary
VO> How old is your son?
VO> Good that you didnt get him here, otherwise he would have freaked by looking at the crowd.
(long smile)

finally
I am approving your visa , give me 2 mints and I will finish paper work.

We came out @ 12 noon and had nice lunch at Dindigul Thalappakatti Restaurant

As others mentioned, the key points are
- be confident
- be confident
- be confident
[nothing else is required)

PS: I was carrying almost all documents, certificates, marriage photos, etc etc

L-1B Individual approved (Chennai/June16)
I appeared for the L1B Individual interview.
My slot was at 9am. I reached and joined the queue at 8:30 am but my turn came only by 11 am. Anyways it doesn't matter.

Below are the questions asked to me.

1. Which company do you work for?
2. What is your offered position?
3. What is your salary going to be in USD?
4. Where are you going?
5. Are you going to work for any clients or directly for XYZ?
6. What is your specialization?
7. Did you work on it alone?
8. How long did you work on them?
9. What are you going to do with these specializations?

She then said it was approved.

Last year my petition was denied by USCIS for the same type of visa. I applied again after 6 months and this time it was approved. And luckily everything went well.

L1A approved on june10th Chennai
Hi All,

Thanks to this amazing forum, i got my visa approved. We were supposed to attend interview as family, but unfortunately, we found a typo in my husband's father name(at one page alone) in the passport during biometrics, so the ofc people suggested that, we wait for L2 visa and proceed wit just mine and my kid's application. I was kinda upset by this, cos i was thinking going with family will give u a plus during the interview..but trust me,its not that case.

The next day for interview, i was waiting in a long queue in the consulate.be prepared. eat well and have a good stamina, cos u need to stand for a minimum of 1 hr. there are no seperate queues based on visa types. This is where i was cursing myself that I didn't bring my kid. because with kid, u can bypass all the queues. within few mins u can meet ur VO. This is the ONLY advantage of going with your kid..nothing else..while i was waiting, i saw nearly three rejections for ppl who came as a family. And now to the qns,,very direct.

exp with present company:
exp with current client:
org structure:
whom am i reporting to :
client name:
about the project:
kid's name and age:

the VO may appear very strict and stern, but i believe since they are handling so many interviews, they may appear like that. but other than that, they do their usual validation.infact my Vo told me that ,' its a good thing that you dint bring your kid here..there are huge ppl waiting ". So my take on the interview is, dont worry about which counter u r going, even if u hear any rejections, stay put. when your turn comes, greet, smile and answer in a confident tone.

Regd the docs, please have your I797 handy, cos other than passport and ds160 conf page, this is the only document they ask for..
All the best to everyone who are applying..
