L1B Individual approved at Mumbai Consulate on 1st Dec 2015
The forum is really helpful, it gives you very detailed idea about the process.
My advice would be to just take the points from the forum but not to get tensed about them as each case is unique from consulate perspective to analyze on their parameters to either approve the visa or not.

One point I felt is that they seems to have already analyzed the case, interview seems to be final recheck of the candidate because my interview hardly last for 2-3 minutes.
Additionally I feel Visa type and company applying your Visa too have importance/impact as in my case question to me were very less.

How is it at Mumbai Consulate?
1. Literally we have many people applying for US as compared to other countries, so you would see huge queue outside the consulate
2. After getting in at gates of consulate there is security check (mobiles, car's electronic keys are not allowed). Most importantly there is no locker facility (at least i did not saw any)
3. After security check there is huge lawn where candidates are seated before getting into the actual interview hall
4. After getting into interview hall, candidates has to go through the finger scan and then wait for their turn (no token system its one after other)

Interview:

I was standing in queue as officer was interviewing candidates in front of me (they were for L1 & L2, married), as they left i was called.
As I reached the counter I greeted the officer, good morning sir.

Officer : Good morning, can i see your passport.
Me : Here it is
Officer : Which company you are working for? (At first i did not heard it properly so asked to pardon)
Me : YYYY X
Officer : Are you a manager or going for Special Knowledge
Me : Special Knowledge
Officer : What is it
Me : I was briefing the officer, he saw me once in between and then glanced through passport and said Your Visa is approved, you will get your passport in 3 days.
Me : Oh, thank you sir and have a great day ahead.

Today on 2nd Dec 2015 I got the passport back as well, the Visa is stamped for 5 years.

L1A Blanket approved 24 Nov (Non-IT background)
This forum is really very helpful. Questions asked were similar to what others have already mentioned.
- Nobody reads your petition for blanket L1. They go by what you tell them.
- Ignore myths such as minimum work exp. etc etc.
- Just be confident and to the point. Don't give any less (or any more) information than what is asked.

Questions to me:
- Which company currently working
- How long have you been working for this company
- Where in the US
- For how long
- Who will report to you
- Who will you report to (and whom he/she reports to)
- US Salary
- are you a Functional manager or a People manager
- Did you study in the US? Which degree
- How did you like the college-town (As he started stamping I129 copies)

To my wife:
- When did you get married
- Haven you been to US M'am

L1B Chennai on 27th Nov
Thanks so much to this forum... it helped a lot. At least helps you to be prepared for what is required. In fact, for almost all L1s the questions are pretty much the same. How you would present yourself matters. They will believe your story as long as you can make them believe. I still wonder if they ever read the petition or not. I didnt see them flipping any of the pages, not just for me but for anyone. Its almost like saying.. they interview more than 100 people in a day... would they even care to know what is composed in petition and whats not.. and then judge an individual. If that would have been my job.. believe me... I would not. I would only judge the individual "on the fly". To keep it short... to me it looks like blankets depend up your 2 min show.

Anyways, thats just my thoughts, there might be lot in there and my thoughts might just sound too immature.

These are the tips I would advise everyone appearing in Chennai.

1) Get into the queue at least an hour before your appointment time.
2) Do not carry any electronic items or bags to avoid hassles.
3) DS160 confirmation, Passport and appointment confirmation is what is required for first three phases of security.
4) For L1s please have your I129 and the first page of 797. Just these! I repeat, just these. Do not have exhibits and huge pile of pages that your attorney sent. They might ask you but have it separated. Make three different sets of these and you are good!!
5) Please write your passport number and name behind the demand draft.

My interview went pretty smooth. These are my questions..

1) How much is your US salary?
2) How long will you stay in US?
3) Whats your specialized knowledge? I explained the specialized knowledge in 2 sentences and she looked fine with the answer.

Thats it!! Again sharing experience does matter, I urge people to do theirs so as to help other aspirants. Chennai was pretty good with weather on 27th, it was sunny and hardly any clouds.

Thanks again and all the very best!! :)

L1 B Individual @ Chennai
Hi All,

Thanks a lot to the forum for providing detailed information.

As you know there are two phases, the bio metrics + photo followed by interview process.
Yeah ....they outsourced bio metrics.

Phase1:-Bio metrics

A matter of just 15 mins. You only need to carry DS160,Appointment Confirmation, your recent PP
and nothing else. You don't need to carry all those bundles of evidences, nobody is gonna bother about it. At the counter they may ask the VISA applied for, your name ,DOB as mentioned in the DS160 printout. They will stick a bar code label behind PP containing the application ID.

Make sure that the DS160,appointment confirmation papers are stamped by security and keep the same safe for the Judgement day. Also make sure your fingers are clean for bio metric scanning

That's it DAY1 complete.

Phase 2:Judgement Day

You need to carry again the same PP,DS160 and PP with supporting documents. There is a small security hut kinda cabin to keep all your extra belongings just before you enter the consulate. Its better not to carry mobile, purse, digital watch, pend drives etc.A simple folder would do the job.

Please keep your PP,DS160 and appointment letter always out.
The first Q is to verify your finger print. So make sure that you don't soil your fingers.
The second Q is about PP verification.
The third Q is a long one and feels like waiting to get a ticket for first day first show and you will notice those counters as you pass by.
At the end of the Q,executives would ask you to sit ,take rest before they send you to those counters.

While you may listen to some of the interrogations loud crisp and clear, please don't get carried away, just relax and wait for your turn.

So here it is:-

VO:-GM Sir.
Me:- GM Sir
VO How are you doing?
Me:-Good Thank you Sir.How about you?
VO:-Good.
VO:-Please give your PP
Me:-Gave.
VO:-Please give your petition please?
Me:-Gave
VO:-Ok.So whats you specialization.?
Me:-[Was nervous and explained in microseconds].
VO:-[was like Wow] Sorry can you please explain once again.?
Me:-Extended my head towards the mike [like a giraffe] and hollered.
VO:-How may years specialized in this field?
Me:-Said XX years.
VO:-Stepped out of the chair.Came back in 2 sec and said VISA approved.
Me:-Thank you Sir.

To me ,a preparation is a must, the details you put on the petition are the one they verify.

In simple words :-

"Beginning, middle, end. Facts, details. Condense: Plot. Tell it!"

All the best..

thanks,
zn4141.

L1B Individual - Need help for filing petition
Hello Guys,

Thank you posting wonderful experiences. Any reply and help on my case would be appreciated.

My Employer is planning to file my L1B visa. Its a small organization that have one office each in US and India. I have around 5+ years of experience including 14 months with current organization. I have already travelled to US twice in last 12 months on B1 Visa from same organization,(First for 2 months and after 8 months for 15 days).

As its a small organization, my employer have asked me to prepare everything for I-129 Petition and then give to the attorney. My employer will take care of the part to justify US and India office relationship. So what are the things that I should be preparing to prove my special knowledge?

I have developed 3 tools for one client. My position will be held at client location and my responsibilities would be the customization of the tools and real time support for any errors.

So here is what I already have -

- Product manuals for all 3 tools.
- Invoices given to the client for use of the product/tools.
- A Letter from my employer that describes my proposes duties and Proposes salary in US.
- A letter from Client for the Training that I provided to Client employees on how to use the tools.
- A letter from client that states - "though I am positioned at client location I will be supervised and controlled by my employer(Petitioning organization).
- My education and Experience letters, Pay stubs for last 14 months with current employer.

Please let me know on what other areas I need to look at for filing a successful L1B individual petition?

Thanks again.

L1B Blanket and L1B Individual got rejected at Chennai
I wanted to share my experience on L1B visa as well as need your valuable assistance.

I had total 7.5 years of experience of which 2.5 years is with current employer.

My employer had applied for L1 blanket visa on March 2015 which got rejected due to " L1 application is not clearly approvable under section 8 CFR 214.2 (I)(ii) (D) and INA 101 (a) (15)(L)".

Post which my employer filled L1B individual under premium processing in the same year. I had received RFE and my employer submitted required documents to USCIS but somehow it also got rejected.

Now my employer is planning to apply L1B Blanket with same petition number next year.

Below are the questions on which I need assistance:

1) As my employer is filling L1B Blanket again with same petition number will this work for me?

2) Can my employer file L1B individual again this year?

3)Am I eligible for H1B for next year.

Can you please advise what will be the best available option for my case.

Awaiting for your valuable reply
