Help required for facing L2 visa interview
Hi immihelpers,

My interview for L2 depensent visa going to get scheduled this month along with my wife L1 Blanket visa interview through her company. I'm a B.E graduate and I'm unemployed since 1 year and i'm trying to work as a freelancer online and doing some e-business work for friends online store. Having lot of leisure time i do little bit trading in my dmat account. But, for facing the L2 dependent Visa interview with my wife. I have a couple of questions that confusing me to answer.
1) Why do you need to go to US?
2) What will you do for the whole day when your spouse goes to work?
My problem is shall i answer like " I will try to get a job in U.S. after applying EAD or shall i say that i continue to work like a freelancer and home maker and mention my trading habits. Which kind of answer would be appreciable from V.O perspective. My main concern is my answers should not effect on my wife L1 visa approval.
Please suggest me.
Thank you

L1B Blanket rejected
Hi,

Thanks to everyone who has shared thier experiences here and helping others.

I have applied for L1B blanket and attended interview on 3rd nov and the verdict was not clearly approvable.

There are about 13 questions asked by VO and 4 important questions among them are following.

1. What specialized knowledge you have?
2. What is your project?
3. What are these tools do?
4. Are you going to customize / modify any thing? - I told i am not going to customize anything, but i am going to use my company's tool to develop client applications. ( I am not sure about this answer whether we should say customizing or not)
5. Pointed out third party tool and asked which company implemented this? - I told the company name and i was about to explain the reason to use that along with our tool. But he is not ready to hear and stamped visa is not clearly approvable.

My Questions: Should we say customizing the company tool as per client requirement and developing client application for 4th question?

L1 A Blanket Approved
**** **** *This post applies to only those who are “applying for L1 blanket L1A/B” **** **** **** **** ***

Profile – Total IT Exp 13 Years

Key learning-
Don’t; get panic if you have fingerprinting and PAI date on same date. You just go as early as possible they will free you ASAP.
Make sure your I-129S and DS160 are in sync. If there are any discrepancies feel free to change it any time till once day before of interview.
I am repeating it if there are something you think that needs to changes under DS160 even after taking PAI date –please feel free to do it and don’t worry at all.

• I have changed DS160 3 days before PAI date ,you just want to carry DS160 on which your /your immigration team took appointment and carry recent/last updated DS160.
Don’t worry how many time you have changed DS160 (even after taking appointment ) just carry updated + one on which you took appointment.

• I-129S you can make changes to it any time and VO don’t have any softcopy with them ,so what you carry its final for them .So you can make any changes to your I-129S till last night of your PAI date?.
I have made changes to I-129S on last night ? and carried updated print of the same.

• Do all possible mock interviews and try to find most possible questions with short answer. You provide information which is in-line with DS160 and I-129S.

• Use mike and look at VO when you are using mike .

On interview date you carry all require documents –what your immigration team suggested and this forum suggested.

You will be little nervous but keep smiling (just remember last happy/funny movements of your life )Talk to person who is next to you which will give you lot of relief and keep you tension free.

Don’t get panic if someone rejected ,they rejected due to their mistakes and their company, their profile.

Just be simple –Don’t wear heavy dress ,tie, coat etc. I Saw such three persons got rejected in front of me in three different counters.

Talk only manage of people project and process

Don’t get panic if your interview go longer , as they are analyzing cycology with this ,just be confident till last question.

Most important questions you should focus with short answer.

What is your role –say in one line..
What are you managing –Just say I am managing Program delivery/Portfolio management /Margin management /Client relationship etc.
Why you have been selected-You better knew it than me.
Will be senior most person at your client site –Yes

Questions asked to me during interview –

1. What is your visa category
2. How long you are working with xxxx
3. What was your previous company
4. What was your role there-Given Elevator speech
5. Where are you travelling?
6. To whom you will report?
7. Is your supervisor seat at same location?
8. Will you be highest authority at client location?
9. What is program about?
10. How much salary you will get in US?
11. How many people report to you?
12. What are there designations?

Visa approved Sir!

I said –Have a great weekend

Thanks to my Bro Nilesh and My Wife for interviewing me all time

Reasons why you will not get visa-

Unable to show manager capability
I suggest that you should give L1A interview without looking at your skillsets, irrespective of technical configuration
Employer and employee relationship.(E.G.will you working with client –say NO)
Do not use work and client in same sentences.(do not say I will be working for role of pm for client--- location with yyy client )

Good Luck

L1 B blanket visa interview experience
I had applied for L1 B blanket visa and had appeared for interview at Chennai consulate on 5th Nov 2015. Following were the questions that were asked to me -

1. Where do you work currently?
2. How long have you been working there?
3. Will you be working at a client's site in US?
4. What is your salary going to be?
5. What's your specialized knowledge? (First I explained in short but he prompted for a more explanation. I then explained in more detail in layman language.
6. How long will you be staying in US?

My visa was approved. The interviewer was very friendly. He even joked with me and at the end wished me safe journey to the US.

Information which others might find useful -
1. Mine was a L1 blanket petition and a new petition was approved to the company after I had scheduled my appointment. So my DS160 form had old petition number and my I-129S from had the new petition number. I told the person at the counter which to which you go after the DD and fingerprint verification counters. He then updated the petition number to the new one.
2. Leaving early helps - I had arrived at the consulate about 40 minutes before my scheduled appointment. A staff member made entry of my passport details in his device and then I got in the long queue to for security check. Half way through the queue I remembered that I had left my company id card at my hotel room. I was aware that it is required but the person in our company handling all the visa work for us had told me to carry it. So I ran back to my hotel room, picked up the id and came back. But I was now at the end of the queue for security check and my appointment was only 5 mins away. Then I mustered some courage, went to front of the queue and told the security guard and the consulate staff member about it. He then allowed me to skip the queue and I went straight for the security check.
3. Redbus is offering huge discounts on hotel bookings. I stayed at the Park hotel and had got a huge discount on booking through Redbus.
4. There is a suburban train station just next to the Chennai airport with a decent frequency of suburban trains. You can take a train from there to Egmore station which is just 6KM from the US consulate.

L1A Blanket approved on 6th Nov after L1B Blanket rejection
Hi All,

Want to share my experience as well in this forum. My L1B Blanket was rejected in Aug 2012 when I applied as a specialized knowledge individual. My company applied for an L1A Blanket visa this July. I was told by some friends that L1A Blanket cannot be applied as it will be rejected by default. But our immigration team asked me to give it a try as my position has changed now, and I am applying for a managerial position. I searched in the internet for any experience of L1A Blanket approval after L1B rejection, but could not find any such case.
Hence I feel my experience may help others, who are in the same situation.
Please be confident that L1A Blanket can be applied (as a manager / executive) after L1B Blanket
Rejection also.

Surprisingly the interview started with questions to my wife first:

VO introduced his name and greeted us good morning, and we reciprocated.

VO to my wife: How long have you been married?
My wife: Its xxxx months.

VO: Congratulations. Keep it going. Then asked how we met.
I answered: At our parents place.

VO to me: How many years have you been working with xxxx company?
I answered: for xxxx years.

VO: Whats your designation?
I: I am a SW Test Manager

VO: Where are you going in the US?
I misheard the question, and started to talk about Why I am going to the US, when he corrected me again, and asked where I am going..
I said sorry and answered that I am going to xxxx place.

Then he checked my petition to find that its the same petition on which my L1B got rejected 3 years ago and, typed something in his PC. He asked me if my L1B got rejected earlier and if I am applying as L1A Blanket, at which time, I was really tense.
I was composed and said: Yes Sir.

VO: Did you ever visit xxxx place earlier?
I said: Yes. I have been there 3 times already on business trips.

VO: Smiled and said that its a colder place and asked if I advised my wife if she knows that it would be much colder than in South India.
I said: Yes sir.

VO: Whats your salary in the US?
I said: xxxxxx dollars

VO: Who do you report to?
I : xxxx

VO: Who does he repot to?
I: xxxx

VO: How many people report to you directly?
I: ZZZ

VO: How many of them are US citizens?
I: xxx

VO: How many indirect reportees do you have?
I: xxxxx

VO: Do your direct reportees have people reporting to them?
I: Yes

VO just typed something in his PC, and said the words I was waiting to hear. That our visa got approved and handed over two copies of the I129 to us asking to submit one to the HR and other at the port of entry during immigration..

I thanked him and wished him a nice day.

Hope this post helps others .... Thank you and all the best :)
