Thanks a lot to the forum, it helped me prepare.

9th Sep - Only DS160, appointment letter and passport required. (only go 20 mins early no point in waiting in Chennai sun, it is near nugambakam high road signal)

10th Sep - necessary documents and 3forms of I 129s, I797 Visa Fraud fee of 500$ (take 1000-2000 extra as visa rates have gone up).

wait for 5 mins security check, go to second building, they will take your DD or payment by credit card, cash, verification of finger print next, next counter for taking VISA fee receipt.

After fee receipt is given, you should stand in line depending on queue, try not to hear what is happening in other interviews as it only makes you nervous.

L1A Blanket Approved - 3rd September
Hi All,

I had my PA in Chennai on 3rd Sep for the L1A Blanket visa.

Thanks a lot Immihelp for all you suggestions and practice questions, which helped me to attend the interview with confidence and get my visa approved.

One Imp thing, before I proceed for the questions,

- My Company had given me 2 DD's for Rs 33,000 and Rs 1,48,500 .But while submitting the DD at consulate, they mentioned that the Dollar rate has been revised from Sep 1st, and asked me to pay the additional amount of Rs.5,500 in cash.Luckily I was carrying the cash , as a good gentlemen who had appeared for the PA the earlier day asked me to carry the cash.

Please make sure you carry the extra amount in case you might need it, or else we need to run outside the consulate and go to an ATM and get the money, which un necessarily increases pressure and tension for us before the PA.

Now coming to the Questions :

VO : Good Morning

ME : Good Morning Sir, how are you ?

VO : I am doing good, Thank you

VO : Do you have an End client

ME : Yes, Sir .. ABC

VO : What is your salary in US ?

ME : XYZ

VO : Who do you report to ?

ME : ABC

VO : Who does he report to ?

ME : DEF

VO : Does he work from client location or your company location ?

ME : Company location

VO : Do you have Direct reportees ?

ME : Yes, Sir .I have N direct reportees at onsite

VO : What is your Role ?

ME : ABC

VO : How many of these roles does your client have ?

ME : A

VO : Typed something on the computer..Took a stamp and stamped the I 129 S and then came the golden words : Your Visa is approved. Here are the 2 copies of I 129 S which you need to carry when you travel.

ME :Thank you sir, have a good day .

As mentioned by many in these forums, questions are similar to the ones mentioned in this site, but the VO may ask you those questions in any manner and few more based on your specific case and we have to be ready with the answers but do not mug up or else..we might fumble.

Please read through your I129S and petition and have an understanding of your role and responsibilities and org hierarchy.

Be confident and never lose eye contact with the VO even if he is not looking at you.

Wish you all good luck for your PA :)

L1B Approved on 3rd September 2015
My L1B visa was approved at the Chennai consulate on 3rd September 2015. My appointment was at 10:00 AM, reached the consulate at 9:15. There weren't many people waiting, hence the security asked us to go inside as soon as we reached. This was a surprise.
Also I was told during the bio-metric itself to take cash, since the dollar price had increased.

After the numerous security checks, we were asked to pay for the dollar difference. Here you can pay the difference in cash. My draft was for 33,000 and the new price was 34K. Hence paid in cash. However, for a gentleman, the original draft was 33,140 and the cashier was not ready to take the difference in cash for some reason ( probably since its not multiple of 500). He was asked to pay the entire amount by cash or credit card, debit card is not allowed. This is very important, hence please check your draft amount.
Post this, had my visa interview
Was asked the following questions
1. Why are you going to the US?
2. Who is your client?
3. Duration of your assignment.

Then the officer was constantly looking at the screen. Seeing my anxiety, he told me that my Visa is approved :-)

Few things which are important
1. Be confident
2. Talk loudly and in normal pace.
3. If your salary is above 100K US $, it definitely helps. Past records of your company matters.
4. Talk inline with your I129S form, the Visa office checks your answers against the form. Hence prepare your answers accordingly.
5. Prepare your interview questions, if possible ask someone to do a mock interview.
6. Most importantly do not panic with whats going around in the consulate. There will be people creating a bit of rucus due to Visa rejections.

All the best! :-)

L1A Visa - Approved on 02 September 2015
I had been to the Chennai Consulate earlier for my L2 and B1/B2 visa and the process was very smooth. This time I had a different experience w.r.t the payment of fraud detection fees. My company had obtained DD for $500 during second week of August. When I went for Biometrics on 01 September 2015, one of the VFS personnel informed me that the dollar rates have gone up and I need to submit the differential in cash at the Consulate. I carried cash based on this information and had to shell out additional INR 1,000 in cash during the fee payment. (I was told I can make payment in credit card as well). However it appeared to me that not everyone was aware of this and atleast two people I saw had not carried any cash or wallets. I made a payment for one such person who has agreed to pay me back but I am not sure how many L1 aspirants went back and had to reschedule.
It is my honest suggestion that you check for the changes in consular exchange rates in http://chennai.usconsulate.gov/consular-fees.html before going for the interview.
