L1 A Blanket Approved
Hi All,

Thanks to all the forum members who have share their experiences.

Now it’s my turn to share experience…I had my OFC and interview on 22nd & 23rd Jul in Chennai.

Me - Hello Sir
VO - Hello

VO - Pls give me your documents
I handed over 3 sets of I-797 & I-129S and passport

VO was continuously looking at computer and my form and started stamping on 1st set and asked me - what will be your salary in US
Me - XX USD

By that time VO stamped on all 3 sets and returned 2 sets to me saying "your visa is approved" and kept 1 set and passport with him.

I thanked him and came back happily :)

L1 B Blanket Approved - A rare case which we never read in this website
I would like to thank this website for enough information provided which I had browsed thru posts till 2012 to know the different questions asked and was confident to answer. But there was some surprise awaiting for us to know there is much more which we don't know about L1B :-) I would like to put our experience forward which might help someone as it was rare case where we heard nowhere.

July 8 and July 9 we had our appointment dates to submit the documents and interview accordingly. On July 9th, myself and my spouse attended the interview. Below was the conversation.

VO: GM Sir.
Me: GM Mam.

VO: So you work for YYYY company Sir.
Me: yes

VO: Your company does this etc etc in US Sir
Me: Yes (I think she knew pretty well about my company)

VO: What is your specialization.
me: Explained

Then she was all happy with our response and about to stamp. Then she looked at her monitor more keenly and a surprise awaited for us. She told that your company HR has filed your petition under incorrect number. Please approach your HR team and I am sorry I cannot approve your visa. We were awestruck with her response as we did not know anything about this kind happened anywhere. We did not lose our hopes here. I went and spoke to my HR team and explained the issue. They immediately consulted the US embassy who responded and asked to reappear for an interview. Till date we don't know what the issue was. We reappeared on 24th July and visa was approved.

As far as I understood usually company files L1 B Blanket visa under same petition number for all employees. So I don't know if VO misunderstood this as L1 B individual which has different petition number for each employee.

Happy to share my experience on 22nd July.

8 am was my appointment , reached consulate at 7.10 , but surprised to see the long queue for 8 am batch , i was almost 50+th person in the queue.

I was getting inside at around 8 , after clearing the security check, went to the other building, was given the token number sticked to my passport.

There were few consulate office folks assisting L visa applicants in arranging the document sets - basically 3 sets of I129S, I797 forms, Ds 160 and passport.& Demand draft. They direct us to a separate queue where the demand drafts were received at a counter and receipt was provided...then back to the seating area and monitoring our token number in the screen...once our token number pops up, we have to go and stand on the queue on the specified window for the interview.

now the questions..

vo - Good morning, are you from xyz company ? (she noticed my company id card)
vo- so you are applying for L1A
vo - who is your client ?
vo- what would be your designation at US ?
vo-how many total reportees will you have ?
vo- how many of your direct reportees ?
vo- please tell me the designations of all your direct reportees?
vo - who will you be reporting to ?
vo - what will be your salary at US ?
vo - what is your highest qualification?
vo (to my wife) - mam, what is your highest qualification?

i am a functional manager with 12+ experience , my suggestions are below.
a) attire - suite with tie
b) If you are applying for L1A , you should be a functional manager like a department head or a supervisory manager , in my case, i am a divsion head having quite a number of total reportees.
c) your direct reportees (going to be at US), need to be on managerial designation like Project Manager, Project Leader etc...not a team member.

All the best !

Question about L1 A role
Hi,
I was going through this amazing forum and found that there are two categories of managerial role in L1A petition. (Functional Manager and Supervisory Manager). Is there a way to know this from the petition that was submitted?
If not where can we find this?

PS: I fall into Supervisory role but just wanted to crosscheck whats there in my petition.

TIA
Nicks

There were few support staff of embassy people standing to check your appointment letter and they were taking entry through tablet and next guy checking your passport for sticker. Appeared for interview on 14-july-2014. I would like to thank this forum and others who has posted their experience which helped me a lot for preparing myself for the interview. It is good to read through the forums and prepare yourself.

Background:
I had H1B (never used and expired), L1B (Individual) & L1B (Blanket) - Stayed in US for 5 years, B1 - Travelled 3 times to US in last 1 year on B1. Each stay not exceeding 1 month.

Though I have got stamped 4 times, every time when I go to consulate for stamping, I keep my fingers crossed and I did the same this time too.

As many have mentioned, be cool and confident in your answers. Ensure your answers matches with DS-160, I-129S.

Below is the details of my interview with VO,

- Will you be working from Cognizant office or from Client Location?
Will be working from Client Location

- Who is your client?
YYYY X

- How many reportee's do you have?
31

- How many direct reportee's in US?
6

- What is their designations?
AAA, BBB

- How many reportees in US have reportee's under them?

- Who is your client again?

Note: In L1A, there are two categories, Functional Manager and Supervisory Manager. I appeared for Supervisory Manager category.

- Will you be handling one project?
Will be handling multiple projects

- What is your designation?
CCC

- How much will be your salary in US?
$$$$ US dollars per annum

- Did you go for the same client in your previous L1B visa?
No Sir, it is for different client

VO told that "Your visa has been granted and you will get your passport in 2 days". At 12.30, checked the status and it said "received from consular section and is under processing for delivery". At 2.30 PM, received mail saying "Your passport has been delivered to Cenatoph Road". Went and picked the passport on the same.

L1A Visa is approved
I had my interview on 10th July, 2014. I never had such a simple interview, I felt the approval decision in my case was pre meditated.

As soon as I reached the counter, the visa officer started stamping the document and asked one question as follows:

What is your work location? Client or your HQ

I had several visits on L1B and my case is conversion from L1B to L1A as I recently got promoted to Managerial Role and also my roles and responsibilities exactly align with the visa requirements and this is true as well. Also my petition was done very nicely showing my experience in chronological order and the reasons for getting promoted.

Good Luck to Everyone who is planning to attend here after.

Thanks to all others who shared their experience, they have been helpful to me and I am sure to many others. I missed to share my L1B Experience a couple of years, but this time I made a point to share my experience.

L1B Blanket : previous employer
Hi all,

Need some suggestions for my Visa interview tomorrow.

My petitioner is my last employer for which I was working 3 months back. When I left the job after 3 years with them they offered me L1B job in US and hence I'm appearing for interview.

Company lawyer says that its OK if petitioner is not current employer but I need some suggestions on what might the questions be for this scenario by VO.

I would appreciate any help in this query.
