L1, L2 Visa

Hi,

I had my interview on 28-08-08 in Chennai consultate. Though waiting in queue for hours was painful, interview went smoothly. One thin lady officer was grilling each candidate for 5-10 minutes and she rejected most of them, luckily i was not asked to go to her :). The questions that were asked in the interview are.

VO: Hi sir, How are you?
Me: Im fine, how are you?
VO: Since how long you are working in xyz?
Me: one year and 2months
VO: who is your client?
Me: ABC
VO: Since how long you are working with ABC?
Me: same, one year and 2months.(i guess since our client is well reputed he din't ask many questions reg company,Thanks to our client.)
VO: what is your current salary?
Me: x lakhs y thousands.(He had a look at my documents, though last two figures i told him were not correct he din't mind it.)
VO: what are the specialized skills you have?
Me: I am proficient in x,y,z tools and i have expertise in other areas(mention it) also which are essential for smooth execution of our project.
VO: OK (He verified all the documents and entered information into system), we are unable to issue visa at this moment, we will deliver your passport in 2-3 working days to your address. Happy Journey! He gave a pink slip which stated the same thing and asked me to carry while travelling.
Me: I experienced the same feeling like when I got through the interivew as a fresher four years ago and I was very much relaxed.

Tips:
Please try to look as professional as possible(Many people came casually but looking professional always gives a good impression) and answer clearly and confidently and don't beat around the bush(officer will say "thats not what i am asking"). Its all about how you convince them.

Have good food before going to the consulate as you may have to stand in the queue for long time before meeting VO.

I had my appointment on Aug 20th at 9:45 in Chennai. I had my wife and an year and half old daughter with me. I reported there by 9:15 and was given preference to go inside the consulate. Our documents, infact, only D156 and 157 got verified in next 15 min. The documents verification counter had nearly 10 people in queue and we were told to skip the line and directly meet the person concerned. My daughter became cranky and was crying to take her out. :). NEVER ever shout on your kids or wife infront of the consulate people. Then I was told to go to the next building and pay the fee. I could finish off this in next 5 min. Then the D-time!! We were told to meet the counsellor (a lady). She is already engaged with some guy who is inspired to go to US on L1B. She is firing questions on him. We stood in line waiting for our chance. Then again my daughter started shouting..and I was trying to passify her. The lady told us to go away from there. I was totally shocked and moved away to the next counter. The VFS guy came there running and wanted me us to stand in another counter. This lady was still firing at the poor chap. The interview went like this:
Counsellor: GM Sir.GM Mam.
Me: Very GM Sir. How are you doing today?
C: Fine sir thank you. How about you?
Me: I am doing great. Thank you too.
He took time to remove the docs from my folder (BEP). I became confident some how..
C: So you work for ZZZ? Since how long?
(My daughter wants to stay with me and she was shouting in my ear. I didn't listen to his question).
Me: Pardon sir.
C: came close to the mic and repeated.
Me. For last x years.
C: Who is your client?
Me: YYY.
The expression on his face was like I work for a famouse client. I am happy again.
C: Since how long you r with the client?
Me: Y years.
After 2 min.. I was silent in the mean time..and my daughter shouting..
C: Laughed on my daughter's behavior and said hi to her.
As my daughter is reluctant to go to us, she didn't resond :)!
C: Today's date?
Me: Pardon sir (It seems we were testing my daughters patience as she started shouting more..)
My wife: Its 20th-Aug sir
C: Thanks Mam.
After 45 more sec..
C: You got visa sir, we will send your passport to your office by courier in another week. Have a nice trip sir.
Me and my wife: Thanks a lot. Have a very nice day.
My Daugher: Ahhhhhhhh!
He laughed again and said bye-bye sir.

The other counsellor was still shooting questions and the poor chap answering continued. We sat there for next 5 min to keep our docs in place and finally could glance the guy still being shooted with questions.

Its my daughter who helped us to get the visa with minimum effort. The counsellor was too good person and it is true with everyone there. The way people behave might be little different but finally it is our answers that decide our fate. You could expect NO other questions outside this site. As many experts said, do not answer "Java and other technologies" for specilized knowledge questions. Also be thorough with the content of your petition.

Hi All,

I had my PAI for L1A & L2 scheduled on 26-08-08 @ 9:00 am, we reached there just before half hour around 8:30 am, a security personal has check our documents and ask us to go in, as soon as we went in we have finished our security check & finger prints just within 15 minutes, now its 9:20 am we took our token and seat there to wait for our tern, within next ten min around 9:32 we got announcement for our token number, here is our tern now.


VO: What will be your post is usa
VO: What is your post in India
VO: Brief about history & future plan of your company
VO: How long you are working with this company
VO: Why they call you in US instead of selecting any other candidates of your company
VO to my Wife: how long you get married
VO to my Wife: do you have child..?
they have not check any of my documents

then she told sir, your visa are granted you will get your stamped passport within 7 working days, to my surprised i get my passport next day (today) at 10am at my home address. the whole thing from standing in line to finishing of interview went completed just within one hour.

Here are some of my observations & tips to them who are going to attend the interview..

1.Be very much cool and confident, they are really really very cooperative, they are just doing their duty while asking you questions randomly
2.Read DS156,157 very carefully they will mostly ask you questions from it
3.learn your job profile & duty by heart they will ask you this questions 100%
4.answer clearly so they can understood you meaning don't use confusions language and don't get stop while you are answering
5.if you don't understand their question ask them to repeat the questions they don't mind it
6.make your eye contact with VO with small & professional smile
7.wear very decent clothes, make sure you are going to attend interview at US embassy you are not going to party, your decent external looks is positive sign
8.they might questioning you very fast but make sure don't hesitate, ans in your regular speed without going fast as them as they have to attend all candidates but you have to ans only few questions they may change of missing some word while you going fast
9.go one day before to mumbai and visit the embassy if you are new to mumbai so that you can make your perfect schedule for the day of interview

Thats it man. be honest, be decent, be confident and VISA is yours..

 Thanks a lot for who all have posted their experieces. Its really worthful. Today I went with my wife and son for L-1B and L2. 2 months back, my Blanket L-1B got rejected and hence we filed individual thru premium processing. VO did not ask me any questions. She asked me
1. Did u apply earlier on Blanket?
   I said Yes
2. What are you going to do in USA?
   I will be working for my xxxx wherein I will eb involved in testing activities.

She later talked with my son who is just 5.5 months old and said that she is approving our visa. Before my interview, the same VO was interviewing a candidate for L-1B and posed "what is your specialization?" which is quite common question for L-1B applicants. But the candidate replied saying that "I will be using Java, Oracle and VB". We should not say as such. VO posed the same question thrice and finally said that she is being rejected. So guys, be careful. Say that you will be either implementing your companies properitary tools or methods. All the best for you all.

Can i have both L1 & L2 on visa. I was in US on L1 one month back. My assignment is over and I am back in India.
Now my wife is getting L1 and can i get L2 stamped as well?

Firstly thanks a lot for shariing your expereince regarding Visa Interview. My interview questions for L1 B were :

1)Why do you want to go to US?
Ans. Told my project role & description & responsibilities

2)Who is your client?
Ans. YYYY Client

3)What would be your salary in US?
Ans. Told the salary.

4)What is your project all about?
Ans. told proj in 2-3 sentences

5)How many team members are there in your team in India?
Ans. I told 10

6)Then why are you among the lucky 10 who would fly to US?
Ans. Told that I have the relevant exp. & I have undergone specialised trg on YYYY company's proprietary tools

7)What is the most challenging phase in a project?
Ans. Requirements Gathering & Analysis

8)What are programming languages which you would work?
Ans. Told tht I would not work on any programming languages, but would work on YYYY company's proprietary tools.

Please remember this is the most imp. question for L1 B Visa ppl, She was repeately asking me abt the programming languages that I wokrd. By mistake also, don't say Java, Oracle etc... bcoz we are going there as a part of our company's specialised knowledge professionals,

   My L1-B got approved on 21Aug.My appointment was at 8:15am.I reached the consulate by 7:20 itself.To my surprise the security person outside the consulate asked me to stand in the line for entering.

First the security persons inside cheked whether we are carrying the mobile phones or the sealed covers.Then the Prescreening..there we need to give our finger prints.Then I moved to the next building where the interview happens. Before I went for the interview I paid the DD in one of the counters. Then I was interviewed.

While I was standing in the queue before the interview I noticed a VO who approved all the VISAs which came to him.Luckily I went to him for my interview.

The VO asked me the following questions.
VO:Good Morning
VO:How long you are working for YYYY ?
VO:Who is your client?
VO:How long you are working with this client?
VO:What are you going to do in US?
VO:Who has developed this project is it the client or your company?
VO:Thankyou.....


Meanwhile he started signing in the documents and then said that my VISA is approved and I will be getting the passport within 5 working days.

I would suggest all to be not to panic during interview.

My L1-B and L2 visa (wife ) got approved on 12-August-08. Interview was at Mumbai Counslate .

Interview went as follow:

Me: Good Morning ..How are you Doing ?
VO:I am fine..Thank u ..big smile
VO :What is your current job profile
Me: I have been working with XYZ client since 2 yrs .
VO:What is your specialized skill ?
Me :.......
VO ...started signing the I-127 ...and told me to carry ..these document while travelling in the US...

Mann...that was my happiest moment of life...

Just be cool....confident ....VISA is yours ...

  My L1-B Blanket got approved on 14th Aug.I had appointment at 9.45am. I am a 67th token for the waiting list and i reached at 1.10.The toatal time of interview is 5 Min.

The Vo asked me the following quetion

Me: Goodafternoon....
VO: Goodafternoon
Me: How r u doing..
VO: Doing good,thank you
Vo: Are you appiled for L1-A Visa
Me: I ahve applied for L1-Blanket(She has noted
    on the application)
VO: What is your specialization
Me: Answered about my specialization
VO: she asked Onsite salary
Me: Answered as my record
VO: she asked the client details
Me: Answeed the correct client name,which has
     mentioned in application
I replied to all quetions without any fear and i heard golden words from her " your VISA will be ISSUED and your passport will be send you by courier for within 5 working days.

Note- As my exprience, the VO officer is realy good and they are treating as friend.they are purposly rejecting the VISA.Before going to interview,please check the all documents.

My L1B Individual got approved on 14th Aug. I had my appointment at 12:15 and I reached at 12:00 PM. As the no of people were less, the VO was sitting in the same building next to the VFS people. He had already rejected an applicant for fake documents when my turn came. He asked me :
1) How long have you been working with YYYY ?
2) What are you going to do in US?

I replied to both the answers and then he reviewed my Passport for some time and then came the golden words...your visa is issued !!

I would suggest that please be calm while answering the questions and dont panic.
